I wandered by a few Yelp-recommended cafes in Girona where the menu didn't look that appetizing to me, so I kept walking. And walking. Getting hungrier and hungrier, I decided to drop into the first restaurant I had seen that day, Bescuit. (There are two locations in town.) Unlike most of the cafes in the center of Girona, the tables were full, and occupied by locals, mostly under 18 or over 50. A good sign. Plus Girl Talk was inexplicably on the stereo, a good omen.
I ordered from the menu del dia and got a pretty decent beefsteak and fries, Moritz, and a tasty baked apple desert for €9, a much better deal than most of the cafes in the tourist section offer. I would describe the food as "typical" for a local cafe in this part of the country. Everything was well-prepared and the service was fast and friendly. (I did not attempt to speak English.) read more
