This hotel is really nice…read more Been here a few times and returned under their special winter pkg. Occupancy was low. Room was clean. Restaurant was excellent. Breakfast food and service excellent. Large portions. Starbucks coffee free, front desk in morning fantastic. Makes no sense, you can bring free coffee into Restaurant but if you order it with breakfast, $5.00. Front desk, Jacob evening fantastic. Some daytime staff at desk unfriendly and so, so. Shower, no cold water in couple rooms, some only hot water. Still overall recommended. Nice pool and hottub. Large event space and easy parking. Ps Robes are very nice and worth $75. If you need one.

First, a fire alarm at 2:30 am meant I didn't sleep the rest of the night (meanwhile, I had to check out the next day and drive 3 hours to get home. Maybe no big deal for a young person in good health, but for a senior with myriad health issues, this was the start of a bad experience that just kept snowballing. Next, the hotel's boiler broke and it took them all night and well past 9 am before it was fixed. Right at the time when everyone is trying to take their shower, but can't so they can't get out, check out or just wash their hands???? How does a business whose sole service is providing "hospitality" NOT have a backup boiler?? Not a perfect solution, but a backup could have been activated and some service restored while the main boiler was being repaired during the morning wake-up, get out and go hours. The hotel doesn't offer a continental breakfast, just an overpriced and reportedly mediocre restaurant onsite. They do offer coffee, but there was NO coffee when I checked, even though it was still well within the window when they purport to offer it--and no one in sight to ask if they could refill the carafes. So now, I've had it. All I want to do is get the hell out. But I have severe COPD so I have to lug my oxygen machine as well as regular luggage anytime I travel. I could'nt manage all of it by myself. But of course all TWO of the luggage carts were in use by able-bodied single thirty somethings or families with children. Wouldn't it make sense for the hotel to reserve at least ONE cart for people in wheelchairs or who have trouble BREATHING??? When I went back to retrieve my oxygen machine, the key card would not open the room door because it was just past checkout time, so I had to go back to the lobby and ask the front desk to temporarily reactivate my card key. Will I visit Clayton NY again? Absolutely. Will I stay at the Harbor Hotel again? Sorry to say, No.

NEVER trust a confirmation, you receive, for a reservation that you make, even well in advance of…read moreyour travel plans. I made reservations for a 2 night stay, via Expedia, after indicating there were accommodations available for my date of travel... I received a CONFIRMATION with a confirmation # leading me to make further plans, during our stay. A few days later, I received an email, from Expedia, letting me know that since "I CANCELED MY RESERVATION," at Chateau Country Inn, a refund was forthcoming..... The PROBLEM is THIS..... I, nor my husband, canceled our reservation so I needed to find out what was going on. I made approximately 5 phone call attempts, with voice mails left, requesting a call back from someone to discuss. I NEVER heard from ANYONE from Chateau Country Inn!! I then drafted an email and finally received a cold reply stating basically.." sorry, we can't offer you a room if we have none available. " There was ZERO explanation to what happened; apparently they didn't care. Obviously the cancellation was processed on THEIR END, by not honoring my CONFIRMED RESERVATION! My point is this!!!! If establishments are booking via any of the travel sites it is poor business & unprofessional NOT making sure that THEIR website is up to date and/or accurate... Sadly, the additional plans that I made, AFTER receiving my CONFIRMATION, had to be altered. Needless to say leaving us, and others, at quite a disadvantage for the days planned.... Would I ever consider booking with this location again???????? Not a chance and neither would many others to whom I have shared my experience...

But it's all about the view, bring your camp chair and relax watching ships and boats pass by. The cottages are in a u shape on the property. Some are directly facing the water, the one I was in was just off but you could see a little from the deck. The cottage was nothing fancy, living room, small kitchen, two bedrooms and a bathroom. Shower was small but all you really need is a bed and a hot shower. No air conditioner, bring fans! They have a pool on the property, I loved it. Saltwater was a bonus. They have a dock area to keep your boats, easy to access and the perfect spot to do some fishing. Lots of nearby activities, winery, ice cream, grocery store, gas etc. Downtown Clayton is just a short drive. I was only hete three days and I absolutely loved every minute of it!

Shower stalls are discolored. (Wear your sandals). Also bathroom floors tend to be warped... No dogs allowed. No A/C Garbage not emptied often enough. Lastly if we want to keep your "spot" you need to book and leave a deposit for the following year on the last day of your vacation or you loose it. Pretty much pack your own everything. This is not a hotel. You need towels, bedding, pots and pans and dish wear etc). Some of this stuff is supplied, but not sure how is taken care of. Positives: -Lots of convenient boat slips. -small beach area for kids to play -bring your own portable campfire and enjoy a fire by the water -So close to the Rondette diner for a good breakfast. -Also close to Clayton which is on the rise! -Stove -fridge -heater if it gets cold -TV (but I wish they didn't have this)
