Not cheap at £2.25 for a cone but just get one to share at! the Topariary Restaurant always gets good reviews and everyone says the food is good at the functions there.

Certainly during the daytimes, the Brun Lea is almost exclusively occupied by the older generation and the hard core drinkers of Burnley. On a Friday and Saturday evening it does pick up with plenty of younger people popping in for a cheap one or two before a night on the town. I still rarely venture in though as during these times it's crowded and noisy without any real buzz or atmosphere.

It's a fairly big place, but surprisingly intimate, with excellent spatial planning and different sections comprising of a fine dining room, bar area and a fireplace and two lounge areas-- one with a grand piano and second bar; the second tucked into a conservatory. Known for their meats and sausages, you'll never be disappointed. But their fish menu is excellent (most often on their daily specials menu) and they have what seems to be a never-ending selection of delectable appetisers. Don't miss the lamb shank or pan-fried bass with parmesan and thyme sauce (a special and absolutely delicious). I'm also a sucker for their parmesan truffle fries-- that's right, peeps; Thin-cut fries as opposed to thick-cut chips (I know, I know-- I'm showing my American). And they have a lovely cheese board with selection of local, Lancashire cheeses. Always crowded, you'll likely need a reservation for the dining room. However, they serve food throughout the pub (same menu) and will send a server to your table to take your order. We actually prefer eating in the bar/pub area as it's more casual and intimate. The restaurant is relaxed with tasteful décor and a friendly atmosphere. The food is simple yet tasty and there are often offers available to get meals cheaper. Buying a main course also entitles you to unlimited trips to the salad bar where you can stock up on a wide range of salad bits as well as freshly baked bread rolls. Feel free to add lashings of blue cheese dressing just make sure you leave some for me! With all the items stocked on the salad cart, you might struggle to finish the meal itself!
