They are an older complex, so the window AC unit doesn't cool down the whole apartment, but with it being Michigan weather, it's not that big of a deal. The heat is also gas and costs a lot, but I'm on the second floor and let the other apartments heat mine. The office staff is incredibly nice and accommodating and maintenance responds within 24 hours, unless it's an emergency and then they are they immediately. Love this place.

And you CANNOT beat the location! I never had to walk more than 15 minutes to get to class or to go to the library. It's right in the middle of everything. Close to all the restaurants when you want to grab a bite to eat. Close to several coffee shops if you want to study outside of your apartment. And most importantly, it's RIGHT above the bars. So when you want to go out with friends or have friends over before going out, it's super convenient. Also, my utilities were always very low as heat was included and I only had to pay for internet, electric, and gas. Something else that really sets this apartment above the rest is staff. It's one guy that operates and maintains the apartments, Ed. But he is always on top of things. I've known so many friends that have lived at big apartment complexes and whenever they had a problem with something, it took months to be addressed and/or for someone to come fix it. With Ed, all you have to do is call and he'll fix whatever it is as soon as possible. The ONLY complaints I have about this apartment are the parking and the laundry. There isn't parking offered for the tenants or their guests at all. If your friends live close by, if you don't have a car, and/or if you rarely use your car this won't be an issue for you. But if you want a car and use a car often it's quite the hassle. There a lot a couple blocks away at which Ed can get you a parking pass for. And it's not much at all to park there each month. I did that during the warmer months. And then during the winter, I paid the higher price to park at the various garages downtown East Lansing. And in regards to the laundry, there is no washer and dryer in the unit or in the building. So you'll have to go over to a friends or go to a laundromat to do laundry. Other than the parking and laundry situations though, I would highly recommend these apartments to anyone!

With the requirements we needed we were very limited and that is why we picked Lakewood. From the day we moved in we regretted our decision. The apartment smelled and the floors were dirty. The neighbors were loud and dogs barked all the time. Any time we brought this to the managements attention nothing was done. Neither of us are real picky people and even we found this place terrible. Not only did we have to pay for our own electricity, but every month we had an additional electric bill to cover the complexes electricity. It was about a 800 sq ft apartment and our electric bill was more than what we pay in our 2000 sq ft house. There was just a lot of shady things about the bills. The apartment states that it has a pool but I would never go in it. For starters they did not even open it until mid July and even then it was filled with leaves and pine needles. Management was always very rude any time we had to come in contact with them. I have lived in many apartments and never had such a terrible experience in my life. Bottom line....DO NOT RENT HERE UNLESS IT IS BETWEEN THIS APARTMENT AND BEING HOMELESS.

Matt, Maintenance Supervisor, proactively reviewed the maintenance reports on a day when the office was closed and contacted me directly. Had he not done so, I likely would have been without heat for an additional evening. I am extremely grateful for his diligence and initiative. Mike, Maintenance Technician, arrived promptly and resolved not only the heating issue but also the two additional tickets I had submitted. His work was thorough, efficient, and professional. This is not the first time he has assisted me. Mike's consistency in quality and care is greatly appreciated. The customer service experience from start to finish has my full approval. I also value the office's standard follow-up process to confirm satisfaction. That level of attention reflects a strong commitment to service and accountability. No corrective feedback is necessary. The maintenance guy, Rudy, showed up within the hour and the problem was fixed within two hours of my email being sent. That was faster than I would have expected on a weekday, let alone a holiday weekend. The apartment itself is very comfy and I have a great view of the lake - I feel like I'm living at a retreat center but I'm also so close to everything that running errands is a snap. The staff have continued to be very responsive, both in answering requests for help and keeping those sidewalks cleared (a big task this winter!). Very happy with my decision!
