I purchased apples and one jam. I realized on the way home, I was charged for 2. I have called twice to get either a refund on my credit card or a check mailed to me. The first phone call, the guy said aren't you coming back? Then he said you can drive here and we will give you the cash. I said it will cost more to drive than the $8.00 dispute. He was going to try to figure out how to credit my card because he saw the transaction and if he couldn't he would call me back. Never received a credit or a phone call. I called again and he will send the check someday. What kind of business is this??? The apples were rotted even though I looked carefully at what I was picking. Sun warmed fresh berries. Yes, Please! We checked the website before hand. Blueberries, Cherries, gooseberries, currents and more were all ready for our choosing. You don't need a container cause they will supply you with a bucket. Keep in mind you are picking your own berries in bulk. We took the drive out from Ames and south of Nevada to check it out. They normally bring their berries to the Saturday morning Farmers Market but we were on an adventure. We stopped at the main little station and got the skinny on what to expect. The gentleman was blunt and straight up. We got a map, told where to go and what to do. This place is huge. Lots and lots of berries to be picked, but we were most excited about the blueberries. We had arrived in the perfect time as there were many to be had. It was a very warm early July day and the sun was high and berries ripped to be picked. My Mom and I parked and walked far out into the patch. We found some really decent sized berries and enjoyed the peace as we collected our bounty. I love that I know exactly where my food is coming from and I can even taste the product before committing to the plant. We made our way back to have our selection weighed and paid. There is also a little shop you can stop in and have a treat made from the berries on the property. I couldn't keep my hands out of my blueberries on the way home. I thought they tasted delicious. I would recommend this to anyone who is out for something a little different. The kids would really enjoy helping pick whatever you could desire. I thought it was interesting cause I will be honest and did not realize how a blueberry bush grew and learned something by visiting and taking on this new experience. It's been about a week since our visit, the raspberries are long since gone. They were absolutely delicious! We arrived and were asked what we wanted to pick and then pointed to where to park and then guided to where to pick. My husband, toddler and I were soon greeted by a sweet cat. Then we began picking ... or if you are a toddler mainly eating. In case you are wondering it ran $9/lb with provided container which is great for the berries, experience and the tasting. We will be back for other harvests. read more

I used to go here with my children several times throughout the year. We loved the produce, especially the strawberries. My children's mother and her girlfriend made the most delicious cheesecake with the raspberries. Then, one day I decided to introduce the place to my wife, who is from central Africa. I will, now, add this place to "I'LL NEVER GO THERE AGAIN!" We picked 4 cartons of strawberries and paid for them, being checked out by the business owner's son. We left them on the counter to go check on something else, instead of leaving them in the hot car. Upon returning, there are now 3 cartons sitting there. We were the only customers there. I asked about the 4th and promptly he turned around, took them from a shelf behind, and said "Oh, here you go." SERIOUSLY?! Why? Am I the only one this happens to? No honesty? Who cares about the little money, it's about principles and the audacity of doing it. I was so angry I scooped them up and left. My wife asked why I didn't question it. With dishonesty like that, how could I expect an honest answer? It's not going to happen again, at least to me and my family. read more

Don't go to Berry Patch Farms unless you're expecting to pick your own berries and pay ridiculously high prices for the privilege. Though on their website they say they have raspberries, blueberries and other berries available and when you call they will say they are available, you will arrive to discover that they don't actually have any berries unless you you pick them yourself. That would be fine if they had told you that before you made the 40 minutes to an hour drive depending on where you live in Des Moines. Having just had a knee replacement I was not likely to pick any berries so my one and a half hours on the road there and back was all for nothing. Besides that their prices are ridiculously out of line and more what you would expect to pay at a Whole Foods in. Seattle then at a remote farm in central Iowa. $4 for ONE HALF pint of black raspberries, $25 to $30 for a gallon of blueberries. That and a condescending attitude as though you have never purchased berries before and their berries are so qualitatively superior to any other berry that you ever tasted that you're considered impertinent for even questioning the price. I've been buying and eating berries of every description since before the impudent young female vendor's grandparents were born. Generally less greedy fruit vendors realize that the farther you have to drive the cheaper the price should be. For the price they're charging the berries should be hand delivered to your door. read more

It's a fun visit with kids to show them about growing berries and how to pick them. Higher prices but my kids love it.

We have picked strawberries here in both 2017 and 2018. 2017 was a great experience - easy picking, absolutely no weeds, and excellent berries. 2018 was far less enjoyable. The strawberries are absolutely overrun by weeds... tall weeds, including thistles. It made picking difficult, especially for younger children. Also, many of the berries were rotten or eaten by bugs. May or may not be back for $2.75 per pound pick your own. It is a fun novelty experience, but a better deal on berries is to be had elsewhere. There is apparently another PYO (plus chemical-free) strawberry farm that charges $1.85 per pound - a big difference considering the Berry Patch is not organic. read more

I have been a customer of Berry Patch Farm for at least 7+ years and it is the best! The main stand employees are always honest about the days berries and yes, sometimes I drive 40 minutes from DM only to find the berries are picked over and/or small but there is usually another variety of fruit ready for picking so I switch. Everyone is kind and it is obvious the effort the owners and employees of Berry Patch truly enjoy what they do! I don't quite understand why someone would rate a berry farm about picking your own...if you don't want to pick your own, why go? read more

My family absolutely loves the Berry Patch Farm! It is so much fun to go and pick your own berries (yes you have to pick your own) but that way you can determine how many and what size the fruits are that you pick! We always go multiple times a year every year. The staff is very friendly, it is a kid and family friendly farm, and there's homemade yummy treats you can purchase after you're finished picking! Comparing the quality of fruit you get I would much rather pay a little more upfront for a large amount of high quality berries grown right in a town close to me than pay ridiculous prices at grocery stores for tiny containers of imported fruit. Overall I would definitely recommend the Berry Patch Farm. read more
