Gigantic Pork Shank

Stopped in at Berlin as it was on our list of recommended restaurants. Rather small restaurant area but being Monday night, we were able to get seated quickly. Lots of expats hanging out at the bar. Server and chef were very friendly and attentive. The owner, Carlos, came over and sat with us for a bit. Told him we were considering Mexico as a retirement destination. He took our contact info and said he has contacts throughout Mexico. He would contact so on our future journeys he could connect us with people. An awesome and unexpected offer. I ordered the brontosaurus sized pork shank. It was really good. I did have pork shank at a review on a previous restaurant I ate at that was smaller portion but more flavorful. The pork shank is really good here too. My wife had the poached salmon which she also liked a lot. Restaurant area is at the back of the establishment with limited airflow. That is probably the only downside. Overall, very happy with our experience.

Berlín's is a great find just literally steps away from El Centro and the Parroquia. An unbelievable find that we decided to explore. It has the non descript name above the door, we go in,find a long bar with various small rooms in the back where you can sit and eat. Berlín's is frequented by expats and some of the LBGT community which gives it a hip vibe edge. The staff are super helpful speak great English and a warm welcome awaits you when you enter this place. We came several times and sat at the bar. Don't have too high expectations and you will be pleasantly surprised. Remember it's predominantly a local bar frequented by expatriates.

Hidden little gem in centro. When you first peak in it looks like and overcrowded bar. Once you walk past that, there are several cozy rooms in the back where you can enjoy your dining experience. Excellent rib eye imported from Texas, the best we had in SMA and the goulash with mashed potatoes was spot on. The Ceasar salad really wasn't a ceasar with fresh pink grapefruit slices and bib lettuce but it was very good. Definitely a place to revisit.

Berlin was a regular spot for me until COVID. Now I am a delivery regular! Last night was the Crispy Shrimp and Goulash with a double martini. Yes you can get a martini or one of their Manhattans delivered! That just makes this whole mess more livable, for me at least. I think they take orders and deliver between 1:30-7:30pm Mon - Sat. Sunday - you are on your own. Carlos the owner is also selling his wonderful rib eye steaks from Texas along with some other cuts of meat. I like the filets too. You can get them cooked to order or ready to cook. I'm told you should tip the delivery driver as if he or she were your waiter. Actually the guy who delivered our order was a waiter there and I am sure will be again. It feels good to support a favorite restaurant during these crazy times. And; it feels even better to enjoy comfort food...god knows we need it about now.

Great little bar. Stopped in for a beer and they were very nice. But be careful the good beers are super expensive

Great location and service but the food is just okay. It has nice ambiance but there are a lot of Americans that go there.

This is one of my favorite bar/restaurants in San Miguel. Many expats hang out here. I highly recommend the meatloaf!

El Manantial was an interesting stop during our visit to San Miguel de Allende. As one of the…read moretown's oldest restaurant-bars--dating back to the 1920s--we were curious to give it a try. The menu features a variety of atypical seafood tacos and tostadas, including octopus and smoked fish, which immediately caught my attention. I ended up ordering the Pescado al Pastor taco, which turned out to be a great choice. The chopped fish was marinated in al pastor seasoning and topped with pineapple, onion, and cilantro, with a lime wedge on the side. The combination of flavors was vibrant and very tasty. We also tried the octopus, which was excellent. I'm a bit of a sucker for octopus when it's prepared well, and this one definitely delivered. The ceviche blanco tostada was another highlight--a generous pile of diced fish with tomato, onion, and lime juice that tasted incredibly fresh and bright. The hibiscus margaritas were delicious and refreshing, and I would highly recommend them--especially if you're planning to walk to the restaurant. The restaurant sits up a fairly steep climb from the Parque Benito Juárez area, so it can be a bit of a trek. Fortunately, we were dropped off and picked up by our driver. As for service, we had no issues at all. Our server was attentive and pleasant, though I do recognize that some other reviewers have mentioned inconsistent service. Our experience was positive, but it may vary depending on the day.

I've tried seafood tostadas and tacos, my friend a permanent resident here says he "doesn't trust the seafood since it is so far from the ocean". He is missing out but he's a gringo. However, the staff didn't make us feel that way since they gave us the table with inarguably the best view of the city during the most photogenic time of the day, magic hour at sunset (Photo 3). How did we get so lucky since we made our reservation just the day before? And what better way to start than with a pair of MX$340 Carajillos, the Mexican version of espresso martinis (Photo 7). The use of Licor 43 lent a welcome sweet spiciness to the deep espresso and fit the moment perfectly. We were happy to receive a complimentary serving of warm Focaccia topped with a wedge of liver pate, olive oil, and chives (Photo 10). It was a nice surprise quickly devoured. Our first shared dish was the MX$365 Ensalada Luna, a hearty and enticing mix of greens, stracciatella cheese, speck ham, fresh peaches and figs, and quinoa in a citrus and vanilla vinaigrette (Photo 4). Our entree was the MX$406 Tacos de Lechon Rostizado, a trio of roasted suckling pig tacos with crispy skin cracklings, red onion, and fresh green salsa (Photo 5). The pork was fork tender. Nestled in a flour tortilla, the soft pulled meat stood in nice contrast to the crack of the skin. We went for a second drink, but this time a mocktail, the MX$195 Chilate, a refreshing alcohol-free blend of cacao, rice, cinnamon, and raw cane sugar in a coconut shell (Photo 6). While awaiting our dessert order, we were surprised by a complimentary Happy Anniversary dessert, a bit of a head-scratcher. We didn't say we were celebrating anything, but hey, we didn't complain. The sparkler was already lit and the staff was harmonizing. It was a chocolate ganache cake with blueberries atop puffed rice (Photo 8). That didn't stop us from enjoying the crispy-sweet MX$289 Churros with cinnamon ice cream and champurrado chocolate sauce (Photo 9), while entranced by the nighttime view (Photo 2).
