Having said that, the administrator with whom I spoke was very helpful and sympathetic. When more instructors were added to meet the demand, she called and got my daughter in. I highly recommend this recreation complex.

I moved to Ottawa in July of 2015. i am a native Montrealer…read more While investigating fun things to do in Ottawa, I happened upon a link to the School of Rock site. What a fantastic concept! They allow kids to learn and play instruments. But, what attracted me was that they also offered what they boot camps for adults. This allows adults to join ad-hoc bands and learn a number of songs and then play them live at a local Pub. I have raw talent on the drums, but I am by no means an experienced drummer. I have never owned a drum kit. Before attending the School of Rock, I must have sat in front of a drum set perhaps somewhere around 15 times. I called up the School of Rock and told them my situation. I was informed that I only needed to be willing to have fun playing. I was in! To date, I have attended about 5 rehearsals with my band and we are having a blast rehearsing our songs in the category Arena Rock (AC/DC, Heart, Peter Frampton, Bad Company, etc.) I never expected that I would be having so much fun learning music and being part of a band. I recommend the School of Rock to anyone that loves music and feels that they might enjoy playing an instrument. They also give lessons on playing guitar, drums and singing.

The first time I came here was for a Friday Spin the Wheel Workshop last summer. I enjoyed my experience so much I was inspired to try a set of 4-weeks beginner wheel spinning classes. I've since done another 4-weeks beginner wheel spinning classes followed by another 6-weeks beginner. I have signed up to improve my pottery skill by signing up for a 6-weeks beginner 2 class. I've also convinced my significant other to join me for a romantic hand building mug workshop for Valentine's Day. I highly recommend the one night spin the wheel workshops. They offer them Friday nights and Saturday nights and are around $65. This will give you a small taste of what it's like to make something on the wheel. It is harder than it looks and you might not make what you wanted but it's such a rewarding experience. You end up leaving with a little pot you've created. I love that this pottery shop offered Valentine's Day workshops. The workshop was all hand building so it did not require the use of a wheel. It was definitely a lot cleaner haha. The price included wine for the night and we each got to leave with our own handcrafted mug. With the workshops, you do not learn much about glazing so you get to choose what your end colour of your pieces or mugs are and the technicians glaze/colour them for you. My significant other is very proud of his mud and although he isn't an artsy type of guy, he really enjoyed himself. The 4 or 6-week classes teach you the essential skills for pottery. You learn about the clay, how to prep the clay, how to make and shape the bowls and cups, and how to glaze your pieces. The 4-week classes (~$200) are offered in the summer and the 6-week classes (~$300) are offered all year round. In both sets of classes, you end up making around 7 pieces. The only difference is that with the 6-week classes, you spend 4 days building your pieces whereas you only have 2 days to build in the 4-week classes. The facility is clean and the staff are very friendly. The instructors are very patient and helpful. I highly recommend at least trying the workshops. They become very addicting. Pottery requires lots and lots of practice. It took about a couple of sets of classes before I became comfortable. By the third set of classes, I was able to make larger pieces which makes me comfortable to move onto the beginner 2 classes.

Taking classes in clay at Hintonburg Pottery is one of the most creative activities that we can think of. My review of Carleton University has nothing to do with academics, as I never attended this…read moreuniversity. I was recently here to attend my friend's hockey game at Carleton Ice House, so my review is about setting foot on campus for the first time as a visitor. Getting to Carleton Ice House from my hotel in east Ottawa was straightforward. What I find to be a bold move is that there is a roundabout on campus. University Drive runs east-west at first, but you take the roundabout to continue on this street to head north-south. Nothing like messing with prospective students who are trying to do a campus tour and have to deal with a crazy roundabout perhaps for the first time. Same goes with first-year students who have enough to deal with that a roundabout may be intimidating to them, causing them to avoid it at all costs and yearn for a normal intersection. I frankly like roundabouts. They are efficient. I find them enjoyable because I grew up in a non-roundabout community. It was a pleasant surprise using one here. Ottawa, in general, has its parking act together, compared to some major Canadian cities. You pay for parking with an app at any parking lot on campus. You can either download the app (I'd recommend it if you are here often) or use the browser on your phone if you are an infrequent visitor like me. It works. It's efficient. I had a great experience using it to park. The Carleton Ice House is a wonderful hockey facility. It took me by surprise that it houses two NHL-sized ice rinks. It was great taking in a few games, including my friend's hockey game that I came to see. It is a state-of-the-art hockey facility with a sports therapy clinic. My friend and I had dinner at Lansdowne Park after his game. It was ridiculously close by. I liked my brief visit to this university. It has a nice balance of parks and buildings. It's also cool that the university is bounded to the north by the Rideau Canal and Dow's Lake, and to the south by the Rideau River. It was nice getting a brief introduction to the university while I was on vacation. It was totally unplanned and a pleasant surprise! I doubt that I'd ever get a doctorate degree here, but never say never, as the saying goes. (248)

Then they offered me off with a paltry payout to leave their employment. I admit I agreed to take it and never return, but that was due to the fact that they said the offer was no longer available if I left the meeting. I should have consulted a lawyer. My fault. We heard about this little pre school from friends who had been and have been very pleased so far…read more Our son started in September and seems to love it! Don't be put off by the exterior of the building (it's tucked away in the back of a little church) the staff seem lovely and even our youngest little boy who has never been left with anyone is happy to go. It's made a great stepping stone between being at home and being ready for school and the staff are both friendly and helpful and seem to be good educators. The pre school room is well planned and equipped for the age range and the outdoor play area is suitable for both pre schoolers and toddlers (they go out together). Our older kids who are now at school would have loved this programme if we had known about it then! It helps get the kids used to school concepts (alphabet, numbers, fire safety etc) as well as routines and instructions from other adults before school. I recommend this programme to anyone who would like to give their kids the experience of suck a setting prior to starting school. I also like that it's co- operative so parents take snack in for all the children, every now and then (maybe once or twice a month depending on how many kids are in the class and how often yours attends) but the rest of the month you don't need to worry about packing snack for your child! Pack a cup and indoor shoes and your all set for the most part! Lovely teachers!
