His description is spot on, because it is a special place. Seabrook Island is my favorite local beach. It's a private, gated community, but my friend's family owns property and when she invites me to the beach, I quickly say yes. I've visited for beach days over the last few summers. Property owners submit a guest's name, and when you pull up to the gate, you must say your name, your host's name, and show your ID. Make sure the name your host submits is the same as what displays on your ID- otherwise, the guards may not let you in if they don't match. My most recent visit was July 4th weekend. The beach was busy, but we had plenty of space for our tent, chairs, and towels. The water was wonderful, and beach patrol drove by several times monitoring people. There's a small parking lot near the beach, the owner's club parking lot, and street parking. The beach has handicapped parking, which you must get a pink placard for (you can get this at the guard's station). Aside from the beach, the Seabrook Island Club has facilities on the island that offer golf, tennis, and horseback riding. It's a beautiful place to run or ride a bike, and the beach has bike racks as well. The island itself is shady and breezy, so you can go on a walk without sweating buckets. Seabrook Island is (at least) a 30 minute drive from Charleston, but you can easily make a day trip there. If you're staying on the island, Freshfields Village has a grocery store, gas station, liquor store, and other convenient amenities without traveling far.

The club is private and members are from all over the states and the U.K. 6,960 yards f from the longest tees for a par of 72 . The course rating is 74.5 and it has a slope rating of 138 on Bermuda grass. Designed by Tom Watson. I did cut and paste that info, but it really is an amazing links course. First hole is straight forward par four, but after hitting your second shot on @2, a great par 5 with a great risk / reward second shot, the course really begins to show its character. I may get my hole numbers confused, hole 4 gives you two fairways, but they assign 1 a day to play, 7 is a 100 yard, completely blind par 3, I have hit lob wedge and 8 iton into. 11-12-12 all spectacular,16 is the Turnberry hole, which is the signature hole, 17 is super risky, how much marsh are you willing to cut? The course is just immaculate, I saw a grounds crew member cutting grass around the sprinkler heads with scissors! I wish it was covered but it's otherwise a nice range. The grounds are well maintained and the staff are always nice and helpful. The clubhouse is going under renovations that will give them a bigger space. They have a nice bar and restaurant and a decent pro shop. If you're a Goose Creek City employee you should inquire about the discounts they offer!
