There you can find regular chile powder -- both red and green -- chile jellies, chile peanut brittle, pickled quail eggs (which have already been requested as a Christmas gift), raspberry chipotle sauce, garlic salsa, chile-shaped kitchenware....you get the picture. It's always nice to go in, try out some of the sample salsa, and walk away with a bag full of something really tasy! Oh, the magic of New Mexico! Thick, fresh and crunchy, these babies are perfect for a pile of nachos. Not overly salty like some of the other local tortilla chips in NM. I just may have found the perfect chip that will not get soggy when buried under beans, cheese, beef, guacamole, sour cream, salsa, etc. They're so thick that I can bet you they won't even break when scooping. They've become my new snack craving! Beware: There are no nutritional content listings on the package (except for the ingredients) so these may be high in fat and all that other good stuff that makes them perfect. I looked up liquor stores near me and found that this location was selling alcohol as a liquor store- I could not wait to check it out. I liked "Felina" just as much. "El Paso City"? ... not so much. But here you are, dry and dusty and parched after a day long road trip across the Lone Star State, and you're looking for something cool to drink while filling up your four-wheeler with a few clicks of go-go juice. We ducked in here on our way back from Carlsbad, just a speedy jaunt through the corner of Texas from Guadelupe Mountain to the Arizona border. The gas was cheap (well, cheaper than California anyway,) and the little mini mart had the usual selection of snacks, drinks, and quick food for slow arteries... you know what I'm talking about. Restrooms weren't bad, either. Always a plus. The usual truck-stop folk were milling around: small families on road trips, the biker couple revving their short pipes in the parking lot, and someone's abuelita standing near the entrance with seemingly no particular place to go. Half expected to see someone with a cowboy hat, a handlebar mustache, a ten gallon hat and an open carry sidearm... but not this trip.
