The grading here is also adjusted to availability: Black is far from what is rated black in my opinion, it's hardly a red. I am not challenged. Pros: it's hard to get lost around here, lots of restaurants with really good prices, everyone friendly, beautiful sight on the canyon. It was fun and very affordable but my next trip I hope for more excitement than what this ski arena has to offer.

The staff is incredible and the owners are very involved in the day to day operation of the hotel. They have succeeded in striking a perfect balance between being small enough to know all their guests and interact with them and being big enough to have all the comforts of a 5 star Hotel. In the winter you can use their ski rental service and buy your lift tickets through them. The ski bus, which is free of charge, stops across the street to take you to the Schmitten bottom station. I f there is enough snow, you can ski down from the hotel to another Gondola, called CityExpress and ski right back to the Hotel by taking the Ski way next to the Schmitten bottom station. Of course before you ski, you need a good breakfast which they do very well, including a fresh egg/omelet station, after skiing they offer Après Ski snacks and then Dinner is phenomenal.

Food and drinks are available on board, and we saw some people ordering food. Personally, I think the ride is a little too short to really enjoy a full meal, but grabbing a drink and enjoying the scenery is perfect. Everything was easy and enjoyable, and it was a nice activity to add to our time in Zell am See. Definitely worth doing if you want to experience the lake from the water! Pet friendly: Dogs are allowed on the Schmitten boats, which makes this a great activity when traveling with your pet.

You can get to Kohlmais side by using small lift on the training slope behind the hotel. No need to carry equipment across the city. You can also use training slope to get back to hotel easily. Rooms are small but hey - you are here to spend time on the slopes! Unfortunately rooms have shared balconies. Rooms have safety deposit boxes (which is not so common on this sizedmhotels in Austria). Breakfast was good. Only issues we had was with cleansity. Towels looked few times like they were just lifted from the floor and not replaced. Also, after first day we went and bought our own soap and shampoo as it seemed that those were portioned :) Nice stay. Last time spend more than double money staying in Saalbacher Hof, no need for such when you just want to spend as much time as possible in the slopes. Recommended if you don't want to splurge.
