I took a private woodturning class with Ernie to make an urn for my grandfather's ashes. I had done a few things on the lathe before but nothing this advanced. Ernie was a patient instructor, taking the time to explain each part of the machine, what each of the tools were and how to hold them. He was also quite in tune with how I was feeling, asking if I needed a break when I got tired. It was a really great experience and I was comfortable the whole time. The urn turned out beautifully. I am a hobbyist woodworker who knew he needed help with a project - creating a dining room table for one of my daughters. I looked all around the tri-state area for an instructor and got really lucky when I reached out to Ernie and scheduled time with him in his studio. He assisted me with the design, the acquisition of the lumber (he knows people), as well as the woodworking techniques necessary to get the job done. I had figured it might take me a few months. After a day and a half of work with him in the studio, we had made sufficient progress so that I was able to take the parts home and get to 90% completion, doing the next few steps in my own rudimentary workshop in my basement. Ernie is a great educator, explaining, demonstrating, and supervising. I learned more in that day and a half than I had in more than 30 years of woodworking on my own.
