Stopped in for a quick lunch near central station. The place was small and quite busy, especially for take-out. Our food came out fast...decently large portion of fried noodles, average sized rolls. This was superior. We wanted something Asia, and came here for Sushi. I had the ramen with tempura and rainbow sushi on the side. Terrific. I like a lot of Wasabi with soy sauce. That and ginger are a Fav. Our waiter Knew I didnt want a dab or two and brought two small pods. Plenty for me. My wife had the bamboo shoots and chicken and a ball of rice. Just right for her. All very polite and not rushed. Pay at the front when you leave. No American Credit cards. We pay cash anyway. I would def go back for a sushi feast. This place just opened a few months ago. I think I have seen the chef working at Shoya (Platzl) in Munich before. Very nice and fresh sushi and japanese dishes. We've been dining there, and ordered some food another time. So far we have tried the Sumo Sushi platter (Sushi and Sashimi - a lot), the Vegetarian Sushi and Udon Combo (Sushi, Udon Soup with Tempura - sizzling hot), the Rice Dish with Eel, and the Seaweed Salad. Everything was fresh and you can watch the chef preparing your meal at the counter (love it). We'll come back!!! read more

Great sushi! Fresh fish and most important, delicious sushi rice! We had lots of sashimi and they put Saba ( mackerels) too. Edamame was fresh and very green. Chita Shi is so tasty, too. The only bad thing is they are very reluctant to accept credit card( for 120 Euro) If it's only 10 Euro, we understand , but we tourists do not carry so much cash. read more

Not a great place to eat! Ordered saki and edimame. That was fine but how do you screw up that? The guy who sat us and took our order could not have been more unpleasant! We ordered some sushi it was all rice when we asked for more wasabi he made a face! Then we ordered a baked chicken dish. It came out fried. We told him baked is in an oven this is fried. He brought out cook who confirmed they don't have an oven to bake. I let him know I can't eat fried food! I told him not to use an English word they did not understand!! We were looking for a new ramen place to try and we saw the reviews of this place and decided to try it on. The local is relatively small and not too fancy, but nice enough. We ordered some starters and they were really tasty. However, the waiter got my order wrong and I felt that the portion of rice bowl was small for the money. Also the ramen that my girlfriend ordered was spicy although she asked it not to be. Overall the food was quite good and the service very friendly so the couple of things that went not so great were not enough for us not to have a good experience. read more

The service, restaurant environment and sushi were good. The chicken teriyaki bento box was quite the opposite. With bento in the name, you'd assume it was a safe bet....WRONG. The salad had what looked and tasted like mayonnaise on it, the chicken was soggily breaded and had a lot of brown/grey pieces, and the teriyaki sauce itself had a super strong flavor, almost as if something was concentrated and didn't get diluted. The only tasty things we ate were the little egg rolls that came with it. Not sure if this was a one off or we just ordered wrong. Steer clear of the chicken teriyaki and maybe you'll have better luck! **Also-- this is a cash only place. read more

I am glad that I am the first to review this place. My boyfriend and I stumbled upon this gem a while back. We had been dismayed at the lack of quality sushi/Asian restaurants in Munich, but this place is a pleasant surprise. Located between Stglmaierplatz u-bahn and the Hauptbahnhof and right next door to an unfortunate "Thai" restaurant, this place provides quality sushi at a VERY decent cost and has amazing miso soup! I have been there a few times and each time I have not been disappointed. The quality of the service and food have never faltered. I like this place so much that when American friends of mine are visiting I suggested we go to this place, and everyone equally enjoyed their experience. However, my first time there it was with my boyfriend. We each got one of their sushi dinner options (they provide you with a card with different assortments of rolls and sashimi combinations) and a miso soup, each ordered two beers and our bill was under 25 euros! One of the biggest sellers about this restaurant, for me, is the fact that it is NOT a running sushi place; nor does it have the ability to have running sushi (due to the layout of the restaurant). They have an actual sushi chef in there and an actual sushi bar where you can see your sushi being made (if you're sitting in the right spot). I give this place 4 stars due to the fact that in my life I have had better sushi. However, I have not had better sushi here in Munich, and I have not had better sushi at the price that this place sells it at. They also have things other than sushi, but it is not really an Asian Fusion type of place. The food generally stays in the direction of Japanese, so don't go there thinking they'll also have Pad Thai or something like that on the menu as well. read more

After returning home from "Bento Ya" I raced to my computer to write this review. The sushi was OK, but just OK. Why the 1 star? Eel rolls were found to have imitation krab meat (in German, "surimi"). When pointed out to the waiter the rolls were not correct he stumbled and said, "no, no, no there was eel inside and surimi inside." An eel roll with surimi? Not according to the menu. Thinking this was a mistake, and this could happen to anybody, we went on to eat our sushi and then got the bill and noticed we had been overcharged an extra bottle of mineral water. The waiter again apologized saying things were "crazy" and he was "busy". Not a big deal and it could happen to anyone? That's true but we got the feeling that Bento Ya keeps its low prices by swindling people giving them cheaper fish they did not order and padding the bill with other stuff they did not order. If you look at my profile you will see I have reviewed many restaurants in the past but have not done so in a LONG time. After having enough of German food for a few days in Munich we decided to have something different. We found this small little Japanese restaurant near our hotel by accident. The place was small and full. This lady server offered us to sit at a high table right by the entrance. I told her I rather wait. She didn't seem happy about that and tried convince me to sit there. I firmly told her no and she walked away seemed unhappy then spoke to a guy(might be owner) in a language we don't understand. The guy came over offered us the high table by the entrance again and I told him I rather wait. He was very nice and told me that's fine if I'm willing to wait a few minutes. He was really nice serving us for the rest of the night. As I mentioned earlier this place is small and busy. You have to wave the server down if you need something. They are just too busy to come back and check on you. While the place is small and deco is simple. I like the nice touch of fresh flowers, candle and table liner on the tables. We ordered a ramen soup noodle, CA roll, salmon bento box and sashimi & sushi. They were all delicious. Other than the lady server turned me off a little in the beginning, I will not let that stop me from recommending this nice little place. Definitely a good alternative choice to local German food if you are in the area. read more

I crave that sometimes and when I go here I don't need to spend a fortune to get a nice entree of agedashi tofu and a nice bowl or bento set of teriyaki chicken! A quite decent Sushi place nearby the Hauptbahnhof. The starters are good, as were some of the specialty sushis but the normal makis were average, and the wine not even that. Products were ok but not extraordinary. I rate it 3-4 but given the hype in some of the other reviews I settled for a 3. Update: The bill just arrived, and it wasn't that bad. This place is absolutely amazing. Very reasonable prices, delicious food, great service, and they even take cards! I eat plenty of Japanese food and this is some of the best I've had, the sushi was fantastic as well(crab was delicious and NOT imitation crab) as the rest of the meal. I ordered a sushi bento box, and it was everything I expected and then some. The miso soup was excellent (lots of big pieces of seaweed, and a decent amount of tofu), and the price was very good for the amount of food in the box. The jasmine tea was also very good. Went with a group of friends and everyone enjoyed their food; one person got a noodle bowl and had a lot left over, and everyone else had at least enough.
