Cannot recommend this place. Had a horrible consult with Terri, who is supposed to be one of their more experienced stylists. I have a certain type of hair that is difficult to work with and requires skill. It is thin and slightly, barely waves but does not curl. We were discussing maybe some mild color choices, when Terri pulled out two photos of women with their hair dyed solid blonde. I do not know how she arrived at that conclusion, since I had discussed low maintenance and not coming into the salon more than every 8 to 10 weeks. I have hair that is nowhere near blonde. I decided to go elsewhere as I felt like she was not listening to a word I was saying. If you call, and ask for someone with experience, my opinion is that a stylist with five years is not experienced enough, unless they are continually taking classes and being properly mentored. That did not seem to be the case here. Plus, the salon did not seem that clean to me, nor that professionally run. I was seated in an area where the sun was blindingly in my face for much of my consult. It also had me wondering, with the poor lighting in that salon mixed with the strong sunlight blazing in from the window, how they could possibly see my hair to properly give color advice. I also found their color selections in the color swatches they showed me lacking. They seem strictly into punky, artistic types of hair, as evidenced from the work displayed in their hair show books. But they did not display any photos of real women and their hair. Thus when I was looking at the choices of color they had to work with, in order to mix up hair color, I was met with a lot of colors that did not seem entirely natural. This is fine if you are going for that look: I was not. In the end, I decided to go elsewhere. For years, I've equated going to the salon with going to the dentist - it's something I dread but I know it must be done. And, because of this, I will delay the inevitable until it is nearly too late. My hair has been in need of serious TLC for a while. I'd been growing out a series of awful cuts that had subsequently made me terrified to be touched by a stylist. The funny thing? I did hair for 5 years before gracefully bowing out and going back to college. You would think this would give me an advantage, but in fact, it hiders me when choosing a stylist. After months of torturing myself by living with less-than-cute hair, I got around to finding someone. That's how I found myself at Bentley. I called up - frankly told the receptionist that I was terrified and truly needed a stylist that was EXPERIENCED. No offense to recent grads, but they're pricks. I was one once. Trust me. I got paired with someone named Adiel. When I showed up for my appointment, he was super-cool. Not fake or overenthusiastic which are things I HATE. He listened to me, promised me he would not take off too much length, and assured me he'd take out the bulk from my hair. Seriously, if someone can de-bulk my hair properly, they have managed to win me over for life. He did. This haircut is RAD. He styled it insanely well with very little product, which always indicates talent. It's easy to manage, and wearing it however I want is no problem. Usually I flat-iron it straight, but I gave wavy a chance and he cut the layers perfectly so that my hair looks all sexy-like when it's wavy (and not scary-like). The girl at the front desk was friendly, all the stylists seemed legit and like they got along well with their clients, and best part? Totally affordable. I didn't ask about the price of a cut before I booked it, so I was beyond surprised when I was given the total. I'd have gone back even if it HAD been $80 or so (which this haircut is DEFINITELY worth) but getting a great haircut for a good price? Dude. I'm going to have good hair FOREVERZ. read more

Dana is the reason why I come to Bentley. I had been going to the same hair stylist for quite some time, and although she always gave me a great cut, the color line she was using on my hair wasn't lasting. I couldn't justify spending the amount of money I was for color that faded within 3 weeks. I decided upon Dana based on a recommendation from a coworker. Bentley salon's owners and employees are incredibly friendly and true artists. Most people are tatted up with half or full sleeves and most have piercings and different hair colors and styles. If that's not your thing, then they might not be the place for you. Do keep in mind that this salon is forward thinking and they are truly unique and talented artists. They will give you a great cut and style. The owner is Scott Bentley and has a big heart for animal rescue. He always has a picture of an animal looking for a forever home. I've learned a lot about precision haircuts in the years that I've had one. Specifically, you can't just go to anyone. After moving to Tampa, I tried a new salon for my particular hair style and was gravely disappointed in the results, despite the stylist and salon being recommended by a friend. In my extensive research to find someone who could cut my hair just how I wanted, I found albums of photos from Bentley Salon in South Tampa, and I knew that was the place. I sent an email through the salon's website on Saturday evening, knowing I wouldn't hear from anyone until Tuesday when they were open again. I was surprised to find a reply from Scott, the owner of the salon, in my inbox the very next day. He said the salon was closed until Tuesday, but that he was certain he could fix up my hair and that I should call to make an appointment first thing Tuesday morning. I sure did, and the very next day, I had an appointment with Scott. Scott was great. He listened patiently and attentively as I went through my dislikes of the haircut I had recently gotten, and what my goals were for my hair. I felt confident that he could cut my hair just how I wanted. I got a great shampoo and then it was showtime. While Scott cut my hair, we bonded over vegan food and animal rescue (Scott has a big heart for animals and runs a dog rescue). He would pause the conversation to check in and make suggestions about what to do next with my hair. In the end, I got a fantastic cut and he styled it perfectly. When I walked out of the salon, I felt amazing and happy -- just how EVERYONE should feel when they walk out of a salon! Scott is now my go-to hair stylist in Tampa. From the ages 14-22 I had been going to the same two hair dressers: one of them for four years until she moved and referred me to the next lady that I went to for the next four years. I am half black and half white so my hair can be a little tricky; I have been getting it relaxed since my freshman year of high school so the candy curls have been subdued a bit. Anyways, I have always been nervous at the idea of someone not ethnic doing my hair, but when my regular hair dresser started getting a little weirded out about me "emo" hair cut demands I knew I needed to start going somewhere else. All my friends went to Bentley and I loved their hair so I thought why not? First of all, I really liked how bright and open the salon was. Second the staff is all really friendly and accommodating. Third my hair cut came out really well; they had no problems with my hair and it came out smooth, frizz-free, and shiny as hell! Fourth, the prices are awesome! It costs like $30 bucks for a wash and style, bang trims are free, and all the stylists know what they are doing. Scott Bentley (the proprietor) also does hair here and though I have yet to have my hair done by him, one of my best friends exclusively goes to him and the work he does is wonderful. In addition to owning and operating a great salon, Scott is just an all-around awesome guy.
