After that, I repeatedly had to follow up for updates. I was first told a class was canceled because not enough people showed up and that it would be rescheduled. Weeks later, I followed up again and was told the class had been rescheduled for Monday. As my expiration date got closer, I continued reaching out because I need an active BLS certification for work. I eventually told him directly that I needed my renewal by Friday and asked him to let me know if there were any delays or, if he couldn't provide the certification, to refund my money. My message was read, but I received no response. What bothers me most is that I didn't wait until the last minute. I contacted him approximately two months in advance specifically to avoid this situation. I was a returning customer who trusted him based on my previous experiences, paid in advance, and gave more than enough time to complete the renewal. Unfortunately, I ended up having to find another way to get my BLS certification after waiting nearly two months. Based on this experience, I would not recommend paying in advance unless you have a confirmed class date and clear timeline for receiving your certification.

It looks like it's right next to the freeway, but it's actually below/behind it. The parking situation was a little confusing as a guest too - there's a big lot on on the left of the med center itself which was totally full to my eye when I came on a Tuesday in April. I wasn't sure if it was staff only so I ended up driving further away to another open lot to the southwest of the med center. I didn't see any signs indicating payment was required and I asked an EMS staff member who was hanging out there and he said it was fine for guests. There is a wellness walkway that runs around the perimeter of the hospital and I had to walk along it to get to the main entrance - I was pretty fast and it was still a 10-15 minute walk so bear that in mind. Coming inside, you check in with the guard and show your drivers license which they scan to give you a visitor's pass. The med center is basically a giant cross shape with north, south, east, and west wings so it's easy to navigate. Any staff member or security agent can give you directions to wherever you need to go. There are central elevators in the middle that take you to the inpatient area; the first floor seems pretty much all outpatient clinics, plus the ED. I could tell it was an older building, but it was clearly still functional/not in disrepair or anything. There's a decent size cafeteria in the southwest area with a good size Starbucks too - I didn't eat there but the food actually looked pretty good for a med center cafeteria. They had both hot food and pre-made things (hot and cold). I came here as a visiting medical resident so I cant comment on the healthcare services but the outpatient clinics seem nice!

Throughout my experience, I often felt like the focus was more on billing my insurance than actually providing meaningful patient care. Multiple visits felt unnecessary and transactional, rather than genuinely focused on resolving the issue. What's most frustrating is the complete lack of accountability. Instead of resolving the issue fairly, I received unanswered emails,calls and generic responses from billing and staff stating the charges would remain unchanged. Patient concerns seemed dismissed rather than genuinely addressed. After speaking with others, it appears this may not be an isolated experience. This is the absolute worst hospital in all of Southern California bar none…read more I recently had to come to the ER for what turned out to be a false alarm, and unfortunately had to end up self-diagnosing (which we are told never to do right?), and came to the conclusion that I was dehydrated. Luckily for me everything turned out okay. However, there is a litany of issues that keeps this particular hospital in the proverbial garbage can. The poor reviews are a million percent justified, and this goes back to when this location was formerly named Brotman. The fact that the powers that be behind the hospital tried a half-ass rebranding to Southern California Hospital did absolutely nothing to change the core issues with this facility. From the initial moment you walk in, you're basically treated as a half-hearted criminal and must clear security. Imagine thinking you have a kidney stone (perhaps you do) and the first thing this location wants to do is put you through security! From there, you must navigate and advocate for yourself. The people who work behind the window partitions here are on par with bad versions of C-3PO. They have absolutely zero customer service skills, and no doubt have never heard of the term bedside manners. In essence, they're unfeeling, robotical androids who see the average person as a product. I know because unfortunately I've been here on multiple occasions throughout recent years. The level of customer service is non-existent, and on the day that I went the lone restroom inside the emergency was over flooded and not working. Imagine knowing that you need to use the restroom, here you are in the emergency room, and you can't even handle your own basic necessities. The real brutal reality is that the only reason this hospital is allowed to exist is that the city of Culver City and the rotating list of gutless Mayors and subsequent City councils continue to advocate for it-primarily for disingenuous and political reasons. But I bet you a million dollars they're not patients themselves! The past city council and mayors have tried to come off as the good guy in past years of being pro frontline emergency workers, yet the deplorable conditions that were well known when it was known as Brotman remain.
