I'm a nurse with a "broken back". In 2008 I sustained back injury at work (L3 & L4 disc herniation) and was off for over a year. At that time, I was referred to Bentall Physio by a sports medicine doctor. For many months, I was seeing Mariola three times a week and with time I added 1:1 exercise sessions with Jacek at the Bentall Centre Athletic Club. Mariola and Jacek are very detailed with their treatments and explanations, have extensive expert knowledge, are punctual, and are focused on getting you well and back on your feet, rather than maximizing the number of visits you make. Needless to mention, each session with Mariola and Jacek are always very educational and an eye-opening experience. I was so impressed with their knowledge and thoroughness that I decided to book my both children for their first assessment. Considering my own experience, I wanted to give my children, both in early 20's, a better start. Jacek assessed my son and gave him tips and exercises to improve his posture; Mariola seen my daughter who required some corrective exercises and treatment. Thanks to them, I am back at work. Almost a year ago I was afflicted with Plantar Fasciitis and immediately had new orthotics made. No doubt the products were the correct shape for my feet, but they were too painful to use - even for sitting indoors. Adjustments were made, and new methods tried. Nine months passed as I worked my way through the exercises recommended and visited a physiotherapist for more. I bought a night splint, and later a gait plate, and highly-recommended shoes. Outside, all I could manage were short distances in my hiking boots. My feet further deteriorated over the nine month period as did my fitness. Then I was lucky enough to be referred to Jacek Kobza at Bentall Physiotherapy. His approach is to look beyond the surface symptoms for underlying causes. He applies his considerable skills in relieving pressure on affected nerves by rehabilitating muscles with very effective stretching and strengthening techniques, using cords and poles. My bare feet felt decades younger. I had forgotten that carefree feeling. I grew up playing competitive basketball and have seen quite a few physios and doctors about re-occurring back pain. So far in two sessions with Jacek at Bentall Physio I have seen the most promising improvement. I originally chose Bentall physio because I work in Bentall and just wanted something close but I will now return even if I happen to change jobs somewhere farther away. Jacek has been able to provide temporary pain relief as well as showed how the main issues relate to flexibility and coordination in my core and provided new exercises and stretches to help me overcome this issue. I am already seeing significant improvement from the exercises he has shown me. Having been very active my entire life I was a bit apprehensive about attending physio again, thinking that there probably wasn't much I could learn. The squash pro at my club had recommended that I see Jasek after I had torn a hamstring muscle. Jasek took care of that rehabilitation, and it feels great - I seem to have recovered completely from that injury. What I've found remarkable is what Jasek has done for my core. He took one look, and noted a number of problems that needed to be addressed due to weakness in that area. Jasek provided me with a great set of core exercises that I've followed pretty much religiously over the the last 6 months. My posture is much better than before, and within just a few weeks of doing the exercises, I saw about a 20% increase in the distance of my golf drives. I sought treatment from Jacek at Bentall Physiotherapy because I was suffering from a pinched nerve in my neck that lead to constant radiating arm pain, numb and tingling fingertips, and limited my range of neck motion. Jacek introduced me to a new exercise routine called Spiral Stabilization (a number of stretching and strengthening exercises involving resistance cords and poles). I really liked Jacek's whole system approach - he modified the gentle cord exercises as the weeks progressed, initially focusing on reducing the severity of the symptoms and later focusing on prevention, using the exercises to re-balance other muscles to reduce mechanical stresses on the neck. I have been a loyal patient of Jacek for many years now since I first went to him for treatment of whiplash symptoms following a car accident. I have a severe lumbar scoliosis, and more, in which I was mainly seeing the chiropractor for. In the past months I have been seeing Jacek at a spine center, and have learned the importance of core exercises and core stability, which I would have never obtained through chiropractics. I was completely unfamiliar with this approach. The reason why I gave 4 stars is because I had to wait past my appointment time to see the doctor.
