Stumbled in here on a trip to visit some friends and I'm so happy I did. Benson's offers 2 of the most important things when purchasing or shopping for firearms. 1. Selection, you can see and feel your options which helps lead to making the right decision. 2. An educated staff. They're able to answer the tough questions and once again assist in making the best decision for your purchase. It's a no frills store, no gimmicks, no nonsense. Top notch selection and staff, 5 stars all the way! read more

I've used Benson's at least six times for firearm transfers, and every experience has been very good to excellent. They're knowledgeable, professional, and make the process straightforward and compliant. Their rates are very reasonable, and I'll continue using them and highly recommend them to anyone looking for a smooth, hassle-free transfer experience. read more

I bought 2 hand guns & holsters & ammo these guys are great make you feel comfortable & relaxed

Great store with a very wide selection to meet all your firearm needs. Owners are extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Prices are also generally way more competitive than the the usual array of Nassau County Gun Shop price gougers(we know who they are.) Better to spring for the extra gallon of gas and drive the extra one hour round trip and patronize Bensons even if you live in Nassau County. read more

Excellent customer service. I've been there a few times for Ammo, shotgun and rifle . They answered my questions and were very courteous. Prices are also good. I would definitely go again as they have a very big selection of guns and rifles to buy. They even have a small section of air rifles. read more

Great experience. I would recommend going there. Low pressure and well informed sales people.

Been going there for years. Always a nice family friendly place. Unfortunately I will never return again, due to the large long haired miserable sack of shit, that has no respect or common decency to speak to people like human beings. Hopefully one day he retires or gets too large to fit through the door. then I will continue being a loyal customer. read more

Very rude. Unable to find a salesman who was willing to answer any questions. Poor selection of products I think but again all of the salesmen were busy although I was the only potential customer in the store. read more

This is the best go to place for guns, ammo, and everything about firearms. Very friendly and knowledgeable. read more

Amazing service from Henry and I highly recommend going to this gun shop if you're interested in purchasing a gun. Great selection and very knowledgeable staff. read more

Great experience buying my first handgun at a great price! They were very helpful, knowledgeable and patient.

My kind of adult store! Have been coming here since before I got my concealed carry permit and have always felt like a valued customer. Other gun shops seem to give me shoddy customer service because I'm a woman, but Bensons always treats me with the upmost respect. Sales associates always make themselves available to answer any questions and provide a high-level of customer service. Support your local businesses! Highly recommend. read more

The first time I went here, I picked up a Ruger 10/22 and was in and out in 20 minutes. That was great. They were super easy to deal with. The price was right. No complaints. Then I made the mistake of trying to order a rifle online. Due to NY state law, I could not take delivery until it was made compliant. When I called them to find out if they could do the work, they told me they could and to have the firearm sent there. Come to find out, it would take a month and cost nearly $150. At this point, they already had possession of the rifle, so when Long Island Gun Source notified me that they could do the same work in a week for $35, I was already stuck paying another transfer fee to Bensons (the full $75 + shipping). Then I developed sepsis from an infection and wound up in the hospital for a weekend. By the time it was all said and done, I just decided to send the rifle back to the online store (Grabagun, if you're wondering - another nightmare to deal with). I had to do this in person despite my infected leg, which forced me to use crutches, but when I got there, none of the older employees offered me a chair even though it was obvious that I was in a lot of pain. It took over 10 minutes for the YOUNGEST (go figure) gentleman there to get me a seat. Then the pain of paying the $75 for the privilege of being lied to. I have done business with them in the past and I NEVER expected this kind of treatment. Never again. read more

Great experience buying a pistol. Due to COVID there was obvious less selection, but had what I came for and the price was very good....no price gouging like everywhere else due to the pandemic. Dave was patient, and a gentleman with questions from a newer entry into this hobby. Will definitely be back for my next... read more

Bensons seriously is the very best gun store on longisland. They have the biggest selection of handguns and they are knowledgeable about everything they sell. Very kind and patient people. Highly Recommen. read more

A friend and I went here years ago to buy our first guns and the owner knew it. He sold us overpriced surplus rifles that took overpriced ammo. When I realized the rifle I bought had a crack in the stock behind the receiver, the owner refused to talk to me and sent his wife out instead. Eventually his son came over and offered me a refund. There are other shops on the island owned by guys who value their customers and stand behind their products. I suggest you go to any of them before you try this sheister. He banks on people thinking he's better because he's bigger... he isn't. read more

Great amount of firearms to choose from and seems to usually have what you need in stock. Prices may be a slight bit higher than other shops but at least you know they will most likely have what you're looking for in stock. read more

Absolutely fantastic shop. Husband and I got our first shotgun here and could not be happier with the service we received throughout the process. I would recommend this place to everyone and anyone and cannot praise this shop enough. Henry took his time with us going over each shotgun we asked about and gave us a tutorial with loading. Again, such an awesome shop and will be a returning customer. read more

Better selection than most gun stores on long island, the prices are right for NY. The customer service is far better than most other stores on Long Island. Having read the previous negative reviews and comparing those to my own experiences over several visits to the store I can only conclude that some people will can never be satisfied. The staff are easily approachable and knowledgable the smiths are beyond courteous. read more

Will never go back. The place was empty with 3 employees on the floor. Would have walked out with a $600 handgun on the spot but I am certain they pretended I wasn't there because I have long hair. They never even acknowledged I was in the store. I am all for small business but I am not going to force someone to take my money. Wound up going to a box store 5 hours away by my summer place and got the gun with points anyway. I didn't want to have to do that, and was perfectly willing to spend cash locally, but I will never step foot in that store again. read more

Benson's was suggested by a friend. It was one of the BEST shopping experiences ever. I started my search for my first handgun last December. Benson's was my first stop. I met Henry (for the first time) and he spent 45 minutes with me answering EVERY question I had. I told him I was not ready to purchase a gun. I had just started navigating the overwhelming array of options. He never tried to sell me anything. I ventured out taking advice from gun owners. Everyone has their favorite stores and shared their opinion. I visited four other shops on Long Island. Each sales person was professional and patient. I decided to return to Benson's because of my first experience with Henry as well as their selection. When I arrived, Dominic greeted me with the same laid back "how can I help you attitude" that Henry had previously. Our discussion was paused due to a customer who know what he wanted, I said I can wait. Two minutes later Henry approached me. I told him Dominic was helping me. Dominic told Henry where we were and Henry picked up where we left off. I do not know how to express my gratitude for the time spent with Henry. It was like working with an old friend. There was no moment in the nearly two hours I was there that Henry tried to sell me. I honestly believe if I decided I was not satisfied with the options he would have guided me further. The fact is, I went into the store with a wish list of four guns. I purchased a gun (not on the list) that best suited my needs based on Henry's knowledge of ALL of the products and his gentle guidance. Again, no sales pressure. When I had narrowed the search to two, I asked Henry if we could go through the background check process. He said sure and let me circle the store one more time still asking questions. Dominic came over between customers to answer questions. Finally, Uncle Nick rang up the purchase and guided me through the accessories that come with buying a handgun. Once again, NO PRESSURE. There are gun stores that are closer to my house and work. I will not hesitate to travel East to Benson's for all of my future purchases. They team is amazing! read more

High prices... There a short time and heard them mislead a customer to sell what was in their stock. Would never buy at this place. read more

The folks at Bensons are good people. Everyone that has helped my Wife and I here are great. Truly an exemplary experience from beginning to end. They have the largest variety of the latest firearms, ammunition, and accessories. When I make a purchase here, there is no need to price shop. The have the complete package experience for any enthusiast. It's a waste of time to shop around to save a few bucks. They have everything you would ever need right there. They are not commission driven, which in turn creates a no high pressure atmosphere for both the seller and the buyer. Very easy and comfortable to shop and make the right decision. If you have a question, 99.9% of the time, they have the right answer; Again this insures that you are the educated consumer who feels comfortable knowing you made the right decision and purchase. Can't wait to go back and give them more of my business. Great job guys! Thank you, and keep up the good work! read more

Great guys, great service, very knowledgeable , family owned, great prices. Will be buying another gun there soon.

Been there quite a few times. Bought my first shotgun, a carbine and 2 pistols, and other things. Last week I went in for some help with an optic and the guy behind the counter seemed very annoyed and didn't in any way try to help me. Not only did he seem clueless about the main thing they sell in the store, but he didn't even bother to ask someone else in the gun shop about a question about guns. Which in my opinion he should've known. Which is very unfortunate, there are a couple of other guys there that have been great and helpful. I left and immediately called another gun shop and they pointed me in the right direction to solve my issue. I will no longer be a customer at Bensons. read more

I recently have been frightened and harassed by a man from my past. I went to Benson's to gain a sense of security and to feel less vulnerable. One, this store was very welcoming to this woman that had never set foot in a gun shop ever in her life. I told the kind man behind the counter what had happened to me, as well as what my needs were. He brought me over to the stun gun rack and talked to me about each and every one. He showed me how they worked, which helped empower me. I picked out the stun gun that I felt comfortable with. Benson's prices were highly competitive and their selection was immense. I left Benson's with my stun gun and pepper spray, but I also left with strength to take on whatever will come my way. If you're that woman like me who was or is afraid I highly recommend Benson's. The staff is knowledgeable and kind. read more

I went to Benson's for my first handgun based on two friend's recommendations. I couldn't be happier. Dave was great! He was very patient and explained everything I asked. No pressure at all. I honestly think they just want you to leave there satisfied. Great store, great guys. read more

Best selection of firearms and ammo in Suffolk county. Very friendly staff who are eager to help you and make recommendations without telling you the gun you "should" be buying. Excellent selection of mounts and accessories, if they don't have it, no one on the island does. It's a little more expensive than some other shops on the island but they probably got what you're looking for if the cheaper place doesn't. read more

Arrogant staff. Semi rude. Ammunition prices above average. Ok variety of guns... Also above normal prices Same staff for executive gun shop. Same u friendly staff. I'll drive further for Chester's read more

Huge fan of the Medford shooting range. Charlie is a class act, I'm surprised some other reviewers were down on him. He has a sense of humor and likes to tease sometimes but it's in good fun. The laws in NYS have become ridiculous so you can't blame anyone for being uptight. Started to come to Medford in 2010, since then it has actually cleaned up. I see it running better now than it has in a long time. For the price, location, and hassle free environment I give it a full 5 stars. I hope that Medford Shooting Range is around for a long time to come! read more

I seriously don't know why they don't have 5 stars across the board. I just purchased my first pistol from them and can honestly say, they have to be the nicest guys I've met in a long time. They made me feel welcome and very comfortable with my decision and the price was very reasonable. M&P shield 9 for $435. I've seen them as high as $500. Store was super clean and very well stocked. Selection of firearms was amazing... Wouldn't dream of going anywhere else. Anyone reading this needs to just go there and see for yourself. Trust me you won't be disappointed. read more

Hard to see bad reviews. I went there looking for a rifle and the guys there were really helpful . I bought a black rain ordinance rifle and a beretta shotgun . The price was great. The guy I was dealing with wasn't feeling well and still he was very nice and put up with my 100 questions with a good attitude. They have walls and walls of rifles and cases and cases of handguns, you're sure to find something you like here . Definately give this place a try. read more

I have been to Bensons twice both times I was in need of pepper spray. I had never been in a gun shop and the idea of being in one scared me the first time I went. The staff was very friendly and after a minute or two I felt right at home. I returned to replace the spray I had dropped and broken. An employee asked if I new how to use it so I reiterated what the previous man had told me. Don't spray it if the wind is blowing at you. It's good for three uses. Spritz it once in awhile to make sure it works. Turns out only the first thing he mentioned was true. I am glad the second employee asked. I will return in the future if I have another gun shop needs. read more
