((4.25 stars for the tacos)) it's been a minute since i have been to Ben's Deli. ownership changed; renovated, and have expanded their deli / grill offerings while reducing their taco offerings. if you didn't know Ben's just a few years ago was an old school deli / corner store where there would be different taco pop-ups serving up a limited menu of the Mexican street food. these days Ben's is a new modern looking deli / mini grocery that still serves tacos but just chicken or beef, now. the tacos are made from scratch, so you getting fresh food which takes a little bit more time than your typical fare. for some reason you can only order tacos in twos or threes, but you can't order three tacos without ordering a can of soda. ordered a trio of beef tacos which were well worth the wait. the tacos use thinly shaved flakes of seasoned beef; topped with chopped onions, a sprinkling of cilantro, & thin slices of avocado; and each taco is double tortilla'ed bc each taco is filled to the max. slices of limes are included. the beef is savory, moist, and flavored well. the double layer of corn tortillas taste like actual corn. the onions add texture and the avocados add smooth fattiness. the tacos are fresh hot food. the rest of Ben's outside of the tacos is pretty a standard deli/grocery; large menu of cold and hot foods; shelves filled with a variety of snack foods, refrigerated units filled with soft drinks and adult beverages plus some household goods. though i wish the taco menu had options like carnitas or al pastor and more from the past. i do find it strange that you can only order two tacos w/ no soda OR three tacos with a soda--no solos or a trio without soda. weird policy, but the taco guy made an exception for me and didn't force me to get a soda. there was a a back-n-forth with the cashier who wanted to charge me whether I got a soda or not. strange. but hey whatever...the tacos here are good and make for a satisfying dinner or lunch! not sure if the tacos are just a permanent part of the deli offerings or it's just a pop-up, but either way...it's a worthwhile stop for the tacos if you're hungry. read more

In the East Village and wanted to take home a hot hero, so stopped into Ben's. Compared to other places in the neighborhood, the hero prices were fair. Wanted a Reuben type of special hero that was on their menu board, but the super friendly guy at the grill informed me they were out of Cole Slaw so opted for a Philadelphia Cheesesteak with Provolone, Mushrooms, Peppers and Onions - just the way I regularly like it. What's great about bodegas like this, you can put any of the add ons on your hero for no extra charge. The sandwich tasted good and, if I find myself nearby in the future, may stick my head into Ben's to see if they have Cole Slaw so I can grab that hero I originally wanted to try. read more

This deli underwent a big remodel a year or two ago. While I'm sure it was needed, it did remove the dusty charm and patina of the original. Now it sort of looks like any other generic deli which is really too bad because Ben's Deli has been a neighborhood staple for a long long time. It was even featured on the Netflix series Russian Doll (pre remodel). These days the grill seems to at times be more halal focused and at times more Mexican focused, but all the standard deli items are there at reasonable prices for the neighborhood. read more

Ben's deli was pretty cool. They're open late and we're really close to my hotel. The convenience was nice. It was about a seven minute walk. It was very clean inside, very well lit. The staff were friendly and helpful. The whole deli fill is amazing. It felt like I could go there and get a carton of milk or I could get a chopped cheese. Speaking of which, the chopped cheese was amazing. Recommend stopping here for your late night needs, middle of the day snacks, and your chopped cheese! read more

Excellent food, but way over priced. Delicious pastrami on rye, but they actually charge for mustard! Still a great sandwich. The chicken matzoh ball soup is another favorite. Again, you pay extra for more than one matzoh ball. read more

IIGHT SO BOOM! People, people, people. Please listen to me. So my mom, a fellow foodie, follows this Chef named Chef Jeff on IG. Chef Jeff shouted out Chef Lioness once,my mom saw, so she followed her too. She then discovers, that Chef Lionness is the new chef on the grill at this deli every Tuesday-Saturday. So my mama checked it out, raved about it, and now it was time for me to pull up. Listen here folks. Regular day, regular night, drunken day, drunken night this food is BOMB. FRESHLY PREPARED, 100% AUTHENTIC. Hunty. Baby. Chile. Please. So previously my parents have had her fried fish, fried chicken and ginger fried rice. She sold out of fish because yea, its like that. So I ordered The Lioness Parm and ginger fried rice with grilled shrimp. My brother also had a Lioness Parm with curry fried rice and fried shrimp. My mom had a grilled cheese with shrimp, peppers and onions and my dad had fried chicken over ginger fried rice. Yea. It's like that. She also has jerk chicken fried rice and regular vegetable fried rice. The Lioness Parm is her take on a chicken Parm but BETTER because of her homemade sauce. Tastegasm forreal. The cheese was perfectly melted, chicken seasoned to perfection, LAWD. The rice was so flavorful! WHAT! Like the ginger wasn't overpowering, the amount of soy sauce and seasoning was PERFECT! Even the curry wasn't too spicy just simply flavorful. AND, she's generous with the amount of shrimp. Y'all, I promise you. This deli is UNMATCHED. What I've described is just her specialties (amongst many others such as lemon pepper, jerk, and honey chipotle wings, shrimp po boy's, fried rices like CMON PEOPLE!) in addition to standard deli sandwiches, standard deli breakfast, chopped cheese's, burgers all the snacks and beverages in the back. This place is a gem. One of the best ground beef nachos I ever tried is here. It is loaded and the portions are amazing. I've also tried their burritos and although more heavy on the rice, still huge and delicious. I like that they make the food to order so some wait is so worth it. It was the worst corned beef lean sandwich. The meat was very dry as if was in a streamer. The rye bread was a few days old. It seemed as is the others foods in our group said it not fresh like it sat for a few days. read more

Friendly service and great deli/hot food. If this place stocked Cherry Coke Zero it would be almost perfect. Their bagels with cream cheese have a plentiful shmear. The coffee is tasty and the service is friendly. It can't be beaten in the neighbourhood for price or service. read more

I've noticed half of the reviews here are for another Ben's Deli since they do not sell soup nor meatballs and isn't a restaurant! And those reviews tend to be overly negative. This place sells excellent halal food for a very low price ($5.99 for rice, veggies of your choice and chicken/lamb) along with deli sandwiches and is your typical bodega. Also it's open 24/hrs everyday they NEVER CLOSE! read more

This deli allows smokers/riff raff to hangout on benches in front and doesn't require patrons to wear masks. Not to mention, taco makers have masks uncovering their nose every time I've been in while making food. Witnessed worker or patron drinking beer by the beer cooler. Owner ALWAYS smoking around premises or in van out front. It's unfortunate because counter guys are very friendly and good people. Just don't enforce a clean environment inside or outside. I live in the neighborhood, and I go to this deli all the time. They always have a good selection of fresh produce, which can be hard to find other than at a grocery store. I can always pick up onions, potatoes, fresh greens for dinner, etc. The prices here are good too--they make fresh, tasty sandwiches at the deli. AND! They make the best coffee in the neighborhood. They always take an extra minute to froth your milk too, which is a really nice touch. All in all, a really great small local business that you can feel good about supporting! read more

I like this place! It's open 24 hours, and has a great selection of fresh produce. One of my favorite things there are these generous $2.50 clamshells of field greens. You can pick up one of those and a couple other random vegetables, and have a great, cheap, fresh salad. The other day when I was there, there were really great fresh apricots, peaches, and kiwi. It's run by people of Middle Eastern origin, so there are tons of other interesting things on the shelves, like garbanzo beans, etc. Plus, there are all the bodega staples - sugar, caffiene, salt, all kinds of over-processed food. Ben's is open 24 hours and serve hot food. If there's anything they can do for you, they WILL. It's a 24 hour deli giving the basics you want want and need. Eh. Gefilte fish is from jar, not homemade. Yet charge 7.99 for one small piece. Meatballs are rocks. Much better in town. The chicken fricasee is good though. Tell them skip the meatballs with it. read more

Really slow service. Ordered a hamburger and fries which took 20 minutes. The guy was friendly and chatty but I wish he was more efficient. Also bought a bottle of Mexican soda but it was flat and there was dirt or some stain around the rim. Scary. read more

this place has been there forever but it's slowly gone downhill. it's run by a nice family but i just don't think they care anymore. too much competition. the place is filthy. the soda & ice cream are warm & the burgers are cold & undercooked. the guy who works at night behind the deli is always drunk & high. the other cashier guys are always on their phones & act like you're interrupting them if you want to buy a pack of cigs. and it's filthy & smells bad in there & almost everything is expired. goodbye ! read more
