"What's that smell?"…read more That was my reaction the first time I stepped within a 15-foot radius of a Lush store. If you have a sensitive nose, even the mere act of coming close to a Lush outlet takes some getting used to -- their product fragrances are heady and potent, and they're not for everyone. But if you happen to love fragrances, or once you get used to the scent, you'll enjoy a smorgasbord of organic and cruelty-free handcrafted personal care items. Once you're in the store, you're allowed to try their soaps. But here's where I discovered a) how quickly you can get tired of soaping and washing your hands repeatedly, and b) you can develop a mild guilt complex about all the water you consume from all that washing. The service in this outlet is friendly, amiable even. There was a store staff member by the name of Cham from a few years back -- her courtesy extended beyond civility to solicitousness towards my son. She remembered us in our subsequent visits, treating us with same respectful friendliness, and that's the kind of service that creates a returning customer. A nice touch they've added is the sticker that indicates the name of the Lush staff who handcrafted the product, as well as the date it was made. It humanizes the item, when you know that it's made by a person and not a machine. My all-time favorite scents are Karma and Lust, but I'm also partial to their Dirty line. If you like to play with bubbles and smoosh your soap into a sticky, amalgamous mess between your fingers, their Fun soap is a great find -- it's like the lovechild of Play-Doh and soap (I bought three rolls. For myself. I'm 38). I'm also always on the lookout for their items on sale, because that's a great way to sample their wares first without spending too much, as their products can be a tad pricey. Still, if soaking in the bath is your thing, or you just happen to enjoy smelling things that smell nice, a visit to Lush can be an indulgent treat for the senses.
