Over Christmas of last year (2022) I herniated two discs in my neck which left me unable to raise my arms, sit or perform any strenuous activity such as simply walking for over a minute. I was limited to standing which caused severe discomfort or remaining prone which caused marginally less discomfort. Once I had been diagnosed by my neurosurgeon whose only remedy was to OPERATE ON MY SPINE!! I chose to visit Dr. Lai as an alternative to surgery. This isn't going to be a miracle recovery story where after one session I was cured and Dr. Lai was very frank that this was a two session a week condition and would take months rather than weeks to resolve. However, what I can say is that after the first session there was a tangible reduction in my pain, an increase in mobility and a marked improvement in well being. I had walked into acupuncture with an open mind, after all it's been practiced for over 1000 years however, the benefit being riddled with needles brought was startling. I love the place! I've visited Dr. Lai to treat my neck pain due to work related. My family physician scheduled me for MRI and wanted to send me to specialist and possible surgery! Hilary Lai is amazing! I have been going to Benefit Acupuncture for about a year now and she has helped me tremendously. Today I called her because two days ago I threw my back out. Dr. Lai has been very helpful in my recent quest relieve my asthma symptoms. I recently moved to Texas and have been struggling with allergy and asthma attacks. It has never been this bad. I also suffer from migraines. After my first session, I immediately felt better. I reduced the use of my rescue inhaler by 50%. I know only use my preventative inhaler a few times a week. Chronic lower back pain from a car accident long ago combined with workouts that occasionally throws my back out compounded by daily commute in a car to Dallas are key culprits of my nagging back pain. Daily stretching and regular visits to a chiropractor helps, but pain always lingered. Almost giving me a middle finger on every effort I put to minimize the pain. Then through a friend's suggestion to try acupuncture, I found Dr. Lai's practice through Yelp and paid three visits so far, and things are looking bright for once in a long while. Basically the first two sessions got rid of my pain. My back felt light and pain free after 48 hours. The sessions included needle acupuncture, electric pulse therapy, and cupping. Initial plan was to visit Dr. Lai in a month for a maintenance, but my 5 year old daughter decided to lunge on my back without warning from a set of stairs a few days after the second session, throwing my back out again. I went back to Dr. Lai and after a 40+ minutes of therapy, I was able to walk out standing straight with minimal pain. It has been 72 hours since, and my lower back is feeling much better. I also make sure I perform moderate exercises (i.e. moderate cardio - treadmill and elliptical) and stretches, which help ease my back. Give it a try... I am a western trained medical provider who believes there is a role for acupuncture in the treatment of common conditions and for general wellbeing and health. Unfortunately, most states do not differentiate the training of an acupuncturist who devote years of education and training in eastern medicine versus the acupuncturist who already holds a medical license and have been certified to perform acupuncture by taking several HOURS of continuing education. Dr. Lai is the REAL DEAL! She is professional and very skilled in acupuncture and cupping. She has great bedside manner and truly caters every treatment to her patient. I was so pleased with her that I now routinely take my mom in for treatments. She has helped decreased severity of allergies, alleviate knee pain, back pain, sciatic pain, and she is really the only one who can help me manage my migraines. I have had a long history of debilitating migraines and being a medical professional myself, and seeing multiple neurologists throughout my life, there is still a lot western medicine does not know about migraines. Dr Lai is my lifesaver!!! I have been trying to get pregnant for over a year. I have tried IVF last year and seeing a acupuncture specialist who focus on fertility but it failed the first time. Then I started seeing Dr Lai and she introduced me to NAET. It is not directly for infertility but it helped my body overall. At the same time, Dr Lai started the acupuncture treatment for me. She checks my pulse every time and she changes treatment to adjust and customize for me. She pays attention to small details. I could feel the energy when she puts the needles. I have seen other acupuncturist and Dr Lai is the best. She got her education and experience from both US and China which is very unique. She also provides traditional Chinese medicine and it helps to do both. After about 3 months of treatment, I tried IVF again. I was pregnant this time. Dr Lai was as excited as we were (she is ver personable and cares for her patients). I had a pretty easy pregnancy and I think all the treatment she did for me including NAET helps. After 40 weeks, I had my baby girl. I had a long labor and the IV fluid made my feet and legs very swollen. I suffered that for a week. I could not wear my shoes which are already 1/2 size bigger. My legs were so heavy and uncomfortable and I felt worse when I walked up the stairs at home. Finally I got to see Dr Lai when my schedule allowed. It was miracle!!! She did the acupuncture on my legs with moxa. She also did the cupping with fire afterwards. After the 30-45 min treatment, I could bend my feet and I could see the vein. It was miracle!!! Dr. Lai is very thorough and concerned for the health, well-being and your improvement throughout the treatment process. I injured my shoulder 3 weeks ago and was in constant pain and discomfort. Two days post injury, I went in for my first appointment of three total to date. After the first treatment my pain was reduced on a scale of 1-10 from a 7 to a 2 or 3 most days and continued improving daily. My second treatment one week later improved my range of motion and flexibility. My third appointment three weeks post injury I'm able to push down and rotate the shoulder (steering my truck one-handed) without discomfort. I am an RN works in the hospital which requires a lots of heavy lifting. I have been having some severe back pain for last 10 years. I always want to try acupuncture but was so afraid for letting people that I don't know to do anything on my back. Until I heard some good words about Dr Lai from a friend.
