I guess I caught her on a bad day. She was just very unfriendly and overall not very polite to my teen and I. She came in, couldn't even crack a smile, and gave a friendly introduction. It seemed like she was hating her job that day. She also seemed combative. I specifically chose her because I wanted to support a WOC medical doctor and thought she might be a good fit but I was sadly mistaken. I didn't even complain but I think she knew she was being a snarky because she offered a subtle apology -- saying she didn't want to leave a bad impression or something along those words. I just told her it was fine but after I left the appointment, I thought about it and realized I really didn't like the way my time there made me feel. Even my daughter noticed it. I would not recommend bringing your baby here. My baby started crying and screaming the moment she touched him, and I've never heard him cry that hard before. We just had a visit for our seven month old. When we began talking about vaccines, we expressed our concern about multiple shots at one time and asked are there ways to schedule it out more safely. The Doctor didn't provide any information or support and made us feel uncomfortable with her silence. We were prepared to do one of the vaccine shots today but instead of talking to us about it the doctor abruptly ended the visit and made us sign a document stating that we refused vaccines. Her bedside manner was horrible, and when one of us asked a question and she start answering it without actually understanding what was being asked and we tried to clarify it she snapped at us in a very condescending way. We are now searching for a new Doctor, one who will intelligently discuss the vaccines and all the options. read more

Where to begin; the office is unclean and nasty-as are the rooms. In addition, the doctor is rude, dismissive and has little regard for her patients. She actually seems annoyed you've come to her office. There is always a long wait as patients are double booked. Their staff has been rude on some days and pleasant other times. Perhaps the environment they work in is to blame. All in all, it's a shame that providers such as this one set up business in low income neighborhoods and think as a result they can offer subpar care. While we all know the medical industry is a big scam in the states and benefits from low income and at risk patients- to have your child treated this way is another level of low! The worse experience with the front desk ladies the Dr is super nice I loved her but her MA's are the worst people ever

if i could give this place 1 star i would and will be following up with my insurance carrier immediately. * the office is stuffy and a thick film of dust coats the floors and children's toys that are sat in the middle of the waiting area (no table) for kids to play with. after a long and tedius search,i mistakenly assumed that this pediatrician would be a great fit for my children and boy was i wrong. not in ten years of doctors visits for my daughter has she ever had to pull her underwear down for a doctor to grope her private part and open her vaginal area at ten years old!!!! my daughter was utterly embarrassed and uncomfortable and nearly in tears because of how rough she was handled. then dr chioma begins examining my son and asking me a series of questions about his eating habits because i still nurse him and she persists to bash me as a mother for nursing stating that, "real milk is better, you're nursing him for nothing he doesn't need that and its bad for his teeth." which i shared with her that his periodontist stated the exact opposite just 2 weeks prior based on his bite and jaw structure and his oral hygiene." she looked at me dumbfounded and just simply stated, "oh well i dont argue with other physicians but i disagree and i've had oral hygiene training" my thinking was wow who discredits an individual that is a specialist in their profession. i was baffled at the sheer ignorance. she spoke way out of her scope of practice. to add further insult to injury dr chioma tried pressured us into over 8 different immunizations at once (seperate needles) for our two year old toddler who is on a late schedule (intentionally) but when we opted for only booster shots for pre-existing immunizations he's already received, she argued me down with insulting comments asking me why don't i want to give my son the shots and stating that, "i think americans are so spoiled, poor countries literally sell their homes to get these shots, im from one of them im from nigeria and you're getting them free from medical so i don't see why you have a problem and you put your child at risk and other children too." when we took a moment to mull it over we had arrived at the decision to just allow him to receive the booster shots for the three prior immunizations he had received a year earlier but they came back with more needles than we had expected so we were confused due to the obvious lack of communication and we began asking questions and eventually rejected having still "so many injections" done at once ss to not overload our little ones immune system and we were told "well i already mixed them so i have to give it to him." as if we were being told our child would be administered these shots forcibly!!! how scary that these people even think/speak this way!!! we literally were at a loss for words and thats where i drew the line and said, " you know what we are just going to head out this is not the place i want my children cared for this entire situation feels wrong the energy is off." then dr. chioma persist to harass us by saying, "your wasting money and time because the vaccines have to be disposed of and i told you what your child would be receiving today i was very clear" and we felt so insulted and offended by this ladys poor choice of words and insulting comments and her delivery was just rudeeeee!!! mind you she is not a kid-friendly doctor in the least way and never cracked a smile once, she was just cold and dry and rude like she hated being there or hated americans. my eldest child, the ten year old is so playful fun loving and docile and is not hard to make smile and was even excited about this appointment but this was the doctor visit from hell! additionally: i felt as though she has a disdain for women of color with a lighter complexity by the way she would sneer at me and took visual inventory of my outer appearance head to toe. so parents please beware, stand your ground and protect your children from systemic immunization oppression. My daughters and I love Dr. Kalu! She is warm, professional, and always there. I'm not kidding... she always calls us back, even after hours, and responds quickly. She checks her emails often too. She never rushes us, takes her time answering our questions, and really gets to know the kids and the whole family unit. Her staff has changed and I notice her training them and is very hands on to make sure they are getting it right (I'm sure she reads these reviews.. hey doc! ). They are getting better! I honestly try to give dr. Kalu a second chance every time. The office is always running late, I'm usually sitting 30-45 minutes before even getting called in a room. Then that's another 30 minute wait after that. As far as patient care, I feel like she only listens to what she wants to hear, and if we try to inform her she overspeaks and makes it seem like we're wrong. I'm the parent! I know what I see from my child she can't tell me I'm wrong. It took my son 6 months to see a specialist because "he's a kid" and "it's normal" for what was happening to him, while the specialist took care of the issue on the first day. I love everything about this office and doctor, so much that I drive from North Hollywood in traffic, with a screaming baby. The receptionists are always friendly and efficient and Dr.Kalu is knowledgeable, caring and likeable. The office is super clean as well. I've never felt pushed into doing anything with my child that I don't feel comfortable with (ie vaccinations), however she doesn't shy away from sharing her opinion and her experience. I've seriously not had one problem with coming here, and recently switched my oldest over to the office as well. It's an added bonus that she's a black female doctor. Do not go here. The doctor is nice but I seriously cannot with the front desk staff. I took my daughter over 2 weeks ago probably 3 weeks ago to get a check up and for her to get blood taken out for hemoglobin. Well they don't even take out blood there you have to go somewhere else which is quite a drive to get it taken out at a lab. So it's very important I have this information because the LAUSD requires it for her to be in school. I have called every day since and I ask if her results are in and they keep saying no, well why don't they call and see what the hold up is?? I also took her 2 days ago to get her TB test and they said "oh just call in 1 or 2 days" and today I get a call (when they're already closed) saying because I did not go in today it does not count. Um they never told me to go in! they never scheduled an appointment! ARE YOU KIDDING ME? So why did they call me when the office was already closed? Why didn't they call me earlier in the day and let me know I had to go in? Don't you think if I was actually explained that she needed to return in 2 days for them to check her arm, that I would have done it? They didn't explain any of that to me. There was no communication or explanation. I even asked if I could go in right then since they had call me and they said no. the women who work in front office are SO unprofessional.... they chew gum with their mouth wide ope, gossip in spanish (I'm latina so it's not even a race issue it's just unprofessional in my opinion) Seriously stay away from here. I plan on filing a grievance with healthnet. by the way it's not about paying out of pocket for another tb test that has me upset....it's the fact that my daughter who is only 4 has to go through getting a big shot AGAIN for their lack of communication.. I also fear they will tell me they lost her lab results or her blood in the lab or something and that she will have to take blood out again. That's what I'm irate about. read more

My son has seen dr Kalu since birth 8/2013 and she's amazing! She is kind, gentle with my son, has great advice, has diagnosed and treated him perfectly. When I call her for a concern and I leave message any time of day she calls me back within 1 to 5 min. She was very helpful in my breastfeeding hurtles. I love that she's a mom of many and can include real life examples. She's open to any special requests regarding vaccine schedules, like spacing them out further or skipping them. NEGATIVE STARS DUE TO THE STAFF! I made a 5 year check up for my daughter well in advance. I called a week prior to confirm the time and date and was reassured the appointment time. When I got to the office the RUDE staff told me there was absolutely nothing in their system of my appointment and the doctor would not be in for another month! When I explained that I had called a week before, the staff was RUDE, UNAPOLOGETIC and provided me with no other option, since the mistake was THEIR FAULT! What is the point of making an appointment, confirming the appointment when the staff so carelessly DELETES them out of the system?! Maybe staffing some qualified, professional and respectful staff would be something the DR should consider asap! read more

I really like Dr. Kalu. She is very knowledgeable and professional, two things I love in a physician. I started seeing her when my daughter was two months old. As soon as she walked in and saw my daughter, she told us she had torticollis, something that I was suspicious of and asked her first ped who told me she didn't. And Dr. Kalu hadn't even held or done an assessment on her yet. She immediately showed me how to do exercises with her and answered all of my questions. During every appointment she made sure to address the status of the torticollis and physically worked with me to help my daughter. That is something I truly appreciate. I hate when doctors tell you one thing during one appointment and completely forget or don't follow up with the next appointment. I am due to give birth to my son in a few short weeks and I will be taking him straight to Dr. Kalu as soon as were discharged. As far as the office goes... It is not the fanciest doctors office in the world, but I'm paying for my children to get the best care possible, not to stare at some fish in a tank.
