So, I purchased my daughter a vehicle 4 years ago and used Wells Fargo to carry the note - why not?…read more I've been banking with them for years. I get a notice in the mail in October that my payment is overdue. Wondering how that is possible since I have had it on auto debit to my main checking account since loan inception and there is plenty of money to cover. I call Wells Fargo and they tell me, "Oh, with us your last payment cannot be a draft. You have to go to a local branch and make the payment." Wow! That seems incredibly backwards but, Ok. I got the 7 day payoff and the next day, October 20th, 2015, took a check for the exact amount down to the branch. Since the branches don't communicate with the auto department, i was instructed to call the auto department back with the transaction record number. I did just that and was told my title would be in the mail. Last night and over a month later I get an alert from my credit monitoring service that my credit score has dropped almost 100 points in the last 2 months from 765 to 654! Wells Fargo says I am in default by 2 months and owe them $4.39. I call the auto department but must go down to the branch, so down I go. "No, sir, the loan is paid off." I ask about the negative credit references and they say that I must call the 3 credit scorers (TransUnion, Equifax, etc) to contest the negative remarks from Wells Fargo. I also find out that the check I handed to them on October 20th was not applied to the account until the middle of November! That probably explains the $4 and change - additional interest since they did not apply my payment when they received it and a month later. Wells Fargo claims they cannot update the information to the credit bureaus and nothing they can do to correct the credit score they damaged due to their own mistakes! Unbelievable that a bank can drop the ball like this ( I know we all make mistakes ), but also refuses to accept responsibility and correct the damage they have caused. Is there recourse? I'm examining my alternatives. If you're reading this, Wells Fargo, do the right thing!
