Indeed, this mini mall (let's call it that) is only two floors, and most of its second floor is occupied by the Hypermarket. Don't get us wrong, though. We actually like it here. It the closest mall to where we live (it actually stands on the entrance of our subdivision, Citihomes, so we have to pass it on our way to school or work and back home). It has made grocery shopping and film viewing, among other things, so convenient for us. Aside from Hypermarket, this SM Center has Watson's, National Bookstore, CD-R King, Bench, Penshoppe, Preppy, Mendrez, Get Laud, Blue Magic, Rusty Lopez, Oxygen, Unisilver, etc., for your shopping needs. Meanwhile, for the foodies, it has Greenwich, Domino's, Max's, Chowking, KFC, Mang Inasal, Jollibee, Red Ribbon, Pizza Hut, and Goldilocks, etc. It also houses a few hair and nail salons, a massage service, skin clinics, a music store, a sports store, a courier service, and an Internet cafe. What is also great is that this place is a techy haven, with Globe, Smart, and Sun shops, as well as so many stalls and stores for mobile phones and computers and accessories. The mall is currently in the midst of a huge renovation, which probably means it won't be a mini mall for long. We don't look forward to the heavier traffic this will bring to our little part of town, but we can't wait to have more shops to explore when the construction finishes.

This is why it was such a delight to discover Kultura Butik during my latest trip to Taal Vista Hotel. I found souvenir items that were specifically made for Taal Vista and Tagaytay, which were obviously geared towards tourists. For a frequent visitor like me, I was particularly delighted by their selection of bags and pouches that had beautiful and funky graphic prints, resembling and inspired by traditional weave patterns of indigenous tribes form all over the Philippines. Despite having several pouches and coin purses that haven't been used in my cabinet, I couldn't resist getting one. Well, not for myself, but as a "gift on reserve" for those times when I'm suddenly invited to a birthday party and I have no time to buy a gift. Tagaytay has long been a quick getaway destination especially for those of us who live in the south…read moreof Manila. A very welcome change is the complex built by Robinson's Land collectively called Summit Ridge. Aside from the hotel, it's a very convenient stop as the shopping or mall area has several restaurants like Gilligan's, Razon's, Shakey's, Hap Chan, Starbucks, etcetera. There are also specialty stores at the second level for other needs. What I like most about Summit Ridge is that there's a supermarket (Robinson's, ofcourse) where we can get last minute or emergency stuff we fail to bring to an out of town trip. There's also several stalls (tiangge) in the open area selling an assortment of items from clothes, shoes, souvenir items and even delicacies. For those who do not necessarily intend to purchase anything and just need a toilet break, you'll be glad to know that theirs is quite spacious and kept relatively clean most of the time.

That this mall has some of my family's favorite restaurants has also placed it on top of our weekend list: it has Blackbeard's Seafood Island, Gerry's Grill, J.Co, Starbucks, and of course, Sumo Sam (!!!) Apart from its nice layout, which creatively divides the mall to sections (there's an area for food, an area for shopping, and area for groceries, etc.), one of our primary reasons for always coming here is we can bring our dog along. Yes, even inside the selling areas (the grocery, the department store, etc.). They do require canines to be placed in a bag, though, so it's definitely a blessing that my pooch just weighs around five to six kilos, otherwise, I'll just leave him home (which he hates).
