The Scott Plantation Settlement depicts what early farming life was like when Arkansas was still a territory and prior to the introduction of mechanization. There are structures include a hand-hewn cypress corncrib, 1840s dog trot log cabin, Big House from one of the nearby plantations; commissary, one-room schools, doctor's office, tenant homes, and blacksmith shop. The Civil War interpretative sign describes the Battle of Ashley's Mill, which was part of Union General Frederick Steele's 1863 Little Rock Campaign, which resulted in the fall of Little Rock in 1863. There are few things I love more than a spontaneous Saturday. So when brunch flowed into, "Let's go…read moreto Board and Brush," I pulled out my pennies and made it happen at the last minute. I am so glad that I did. This was my first time experiencing Board and Brush as I am more of a Painting With a Twist, chick; however, I loved the banging, staining and painting that went into the creation of my new board. Now, I want to stain EVERYTHING! LOL I am thankful that the owner easily accommodated my last minute addition. The layout of the space was pretty good though I wish my table had been pushed a little more away from the wall because the employees had to access things behind me a lot during the session and that was a little uncomfortable. It was also difficult to hear instructions sometimes and I think might have been helpful for the staff to have whistles to get everyone's attention for important things. Our group was highly verbal (smile). One additional thing that would have been nice is if we'd had the ability to adjust the design a little bit. I did not know that the corporate trademark designs were so very rigid that we couldn't do something simple like add a hook to the front of the board to accommodate the calendar I am going to hang from my board. Corporate really should give sites that bit of flexibility but it's cool because I'm going to install one myself as soon I get home. Overall, I had a great time with my friend and made a few new friends along the way. Great way to spend a Saturday!

The Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts is treasure nestled in the heart of Little Rock, easily accessible for both locals and tourists. During my visit, they had an exhibition for Native American artists and I was pleasantly surprised by the Pablo Picasso pieces that were on loan to this museum. Beautifully curated selection of artworks in a building that I consider art itself because of the amazing design and windowed 2nd floor that overlooks Little Rock! They also offer fun, hands on courses for all types of art including painting, sculpting, and even jewelry making. I did not have time to take any courses though. I spent roughly 2 hours and was able to see everything! Whether you have a couple of hours to spare or a whole day, the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts is highly recommended for anyone with an appreciation for art. A MUST SEE destination in Little Rock!

To be fair, they did appear to have a section blocked off so I wonder if they were changing out the displays.

In all of our many years of traveling, this museum perhaps is the greatest disappointment!! The…read moreinclusion of the word 'historic' in the museum name suggests that one would find a considerable number of artifacts representing the history of the state. Quite the contrary, what is found almost totally is a group of contemporary art works that have very little to do with the state and its history! Very importantly, the entire upper floor was closed during our visit (and has been closed for several months, according to other reviews). Just a few minutes spent in the display area was quite sufficient! Admittendly, there is an outdoor area with various buildings that can be toured for a fee, but this tour is of limited benefit and not of much interest on a summer afternoon. On a hot summer day, a museum provides respite from the heat and humidity, but there is very little in this museum to keep one's interest for long. Furthermore, the gift shop can be skipped, as it has almost nothing of value. Are there any professionals who work in this museum? It appears not! Is this museum ever evaluated by the leadership?? What a shame!! In reality, the real benefit of this museum is to provide a temperature-controlled place to wait for the free streetcar, which stops right across the street!!
