We no longer have the anxiety and stress that came with doing his math work. The White Bear Mathnasium has provided an excellent environment that supports his learning style and the materials that have nurtured his math progress. He looks forward to his time spent there, and takes pride in the work that he is doing. He frequently talks about what he has done and what he has learned from "Mr. Dave" and the other tutors. Through various math games and his daily work, the program has allowed him to develop the discipline required to have success in math. It is a great space with a multitude of resources to help students understand math. We are glad we found it.

The volunteers were welcoming and explained what to do in terms of purchasing tickets and using them to get food. There was quite an array of different types of food - most of which were prepared right on the spot. It was interesting to see how different cookies and desserts are made. For $12, I got a wide variety of goodies to take home, share with my family, and sample a nice selection of Scandinavian food. I'll be bringing my sister next year with me so we can spend time there exploring the bake sale, craft sale, and listening to the music.

Used to be a great school. Always near the top in test scores, great teachers, wonderful community…read moreinvolvement. But this year a new sheriff rode into town. She's a first time principal and seems to feel a need to make her mark on a school that was superb before she arrived. First thing she did was to ban the annual dance because student's feelings might get hurt. We've been having the dance for years and I seriously doubt that anyone's feeling have gotten hurt. That's more a junior high and high school thing. Next she banned high fives and handshaking, again because people might get hurt. When I was in school we had classes in etiquette that included shaking hands, but I guess she feels she knows what's best for our children. Lately, she has removed the door between a busy hallway and the girls bathroom because of an act of vandalism. Apparently she feels that exposing a couple of hundred girls to the eyes of any passerby when they're in the bathroom is an appropriate punishment for an act of vandalism by one student. Group punishment rarely works - can only work if the group knows who the offender is - and should never be used to shame and embarrass children about using the bathroom. When asked about her decision she replied that she wasn't punishing anyone, she just removed the door. Looking for a great school? You're a few years too late for this one.

The combined elementary/middle school they run is in an older building, but has modern technology (ActivBoards in every classroom, multiple computer labs, ipads, and chrome books). The church itself has been remodeled and added on to fairly recently, with a large sanctuary, video screens for overflow crowds and a modern sound system.

This business used to just be for educational visits with animals etc, but last month it opened as…read morean AMAZING reptile zoo. It does not get any better than this place. The animals are cared for impeccably. It's a brilliant collection of snakes, iguanas, salamanders, turtles, geckos, and even an alligator. The founders of the zoo are Emily and Ed who also have a great YouTube channel called Snake Discovery. Some reptile YouTube channels don't treat their animals well and will do anything to get clicks. But Ed and Emily are the real deal, clearly caring for their animals and their mission of education people about them.
