If there was a way to leave ZERO stars, I would. The only good thing I could say was the floors looked fairly clean.
I went in to have 2 documents notarized.
I am a former legal secretary and my own notary seal was authenticated by the city, county, state, and federal governments as well as numerous foreign embassies to notarize documents. My point in mentioning that is to establish that I am well aware of the duties of a notary.
In all cases where a county notary stamp is being used, the notary simply verifies that the document was signed in their presence by a person known to them or who had presented appropriate identification. Period.
The individuals at Belmont Central (Anna and a young lady who did not identify herself) read my personal documents then they stated that they don't notarize "those types" of documents. It was their policy to read them and only notarize certain ones. I was floored, a notary swears an oath and is subject to certain laws. They were violating them all.
I tried to explain that they were not notarizing anything but a signature. I even offered to wait while they checked the booklet that you are given that has the rules. They refused to check and again and became quite loud and beligerant even began discussing my personal documents -- which they had no right to read to begin with -- loud enough for other customers to hear.
Notarizing a document is not rocket science, if you do not personally know the individual you ask for identification and then instruct them to sign it in your presence. Then you sign, date, stamp, done.
Why this currency exchange is violating the rules, I do not know. I presented my drivers license and it should have been a simple matter.
If they can't handle something as simple as this, I would be extremely worried with anything more complex.
For instance, if I tried to pay my electric bill would they apply my payment to somebody else. And if I wanted to pay more or less than the amount due, would they refuse? And what about fees. When people start making their own rules anything can happen.
I do know that they showed a very low level of professionalism. I will not go back there for any reason. read more
