This restored 300-year-old flour mill is so beautiful. Set right on the water (duh say the flour…read moremill geeks), all the rooms have a balcony, with views of the River Duero. We had a delicious dinner in their restaurant that focuses on fresh local produce. There is also a bar and terrace, as well as a comfortable lounge with a fireplace. Free Wi-Fi is available in public areas. It didn't always work but at least they have it. Rooms at the Posada are minimalist and spacious. They are set in a new building, connected to the old mill. Each room has air conditioning and heating, a minibar and satellite TV. The towels are the softest I've ever felt but pack your lint brush! They shed. If you're planning on touring the amazing wineries in the Ribera del Duero, this is the place to stay! We wandered around the sleepy town looking for cigarettes. I felt like I could have been in a Pedro Almodóvar movie.

The complimentary olives blew us away right from the get go. Make sure you ask for refills. They are very gracious about that. We have the braised pork shoulder, the squab and the fish main. Each dish was beautifully presented and taste marvelous. Regrets that due to their rather generous portions, we were too full to ordered desserts. The staffs were super friendly and pleasant. This is a must go place if you are in the area. The restaurant is a restored old barn with many of the Middle Ages rafters still visible on the ceiling. Very charming indeed.

One of the best dining experiences I've had in Spain (or the world, for that matter). This small,…read moreelegant restaurant is tucked away on a quiet side street in Valladolid. If you were not looking for it, you might pass it by completely. The interior is equally unassuming, with simple, modern (yet comfortable!) decor, a warm palette of golds and browns and gentle ambient lighting. The most dramatic decor element is provided by individually vased tufts of moss placed at the corner of each table. When we were there (around 9:30 PM on a Thursday), the restaurant was nearly empty. In other places this might make for a slightly awkward or isolated dining experience, but at Trigo it felt exclusive and pampering. Trigo's menu evolves with the season and their winter selections were outstanding--from the orange-pumpkin starter to the amazing mushroom and truffle pasta (my favorite course!), to the entrees (I tried the rabbit, which was tender and hearty and not at all gamey), and even the wine (a clean Ribeiro from Galicia). The service was also excellent and very friendly and after our dinner we stayed to chat with the chef and his wife for a few minutes. Dining at Trigo was the highlight of our trip to Valladolid and I am very tempted to return just to experience Trigo one. more. time.

My husband and I recently took a honeymoon trip to Spain and spent a night in Rueda. We love…read moreverdejo wines and wanted to see where they came from. This particular bodega has a small (four room) hotel in it and we stayed there for the night while exploring the city. On the night in question, we were the only people staying at the hotel so they gave us a key to our room as well as to the door (it is not staffed at night) and we basically had free reign. Our room was very comfortable. Our full size bed was actually two twin beds pushed together, but that wasn't a big deal. The bathroom was stocked with soft, full size towels and had a rather technologically advanced shower. We also had access to the upstairs lounge with lots of comfortable couches, a large TV, and a full kitchen. The fridge was stocked with water and food and there was a separate wine fridge with all the Felix Sanz wine we could drink (which was one and a half bottles). The next morning, a lady came by to cook us a large, delicious breakfast before we departed for San Sebastian. Unfortunately, we didn't have time to tour the winery. I think it would have been pretty awesome. If you're interested in verdejo wine and looking to stay in the city of Rueda, this is probably your best bet (super luxurious for 70 euros a night!)
