Well you do. Having arrived ahead of time we were shown to our table, cozy in the corner with cool lighting, but told it'd take a few minutes to get the menu. Ok we thought, but then the menus came and after another 5 minutes we were ready to order... but were told we had to wait another couple of minutes. In fairness there was a table of eight and a table of five ahead of us, so maybe that was why. When it did connect, however, we were served a couple of fab starters (see pics) and that started the meal! My wife really loved her chicken dish and for me the sausages n mash were the best! Follow that up with a fabulous Eton Mess and you've got yourself a fabulous meal! Highly recommended - but be sure to book ahead of time!!

This charming pub along the Lancaster Canal serves perhaps the best Fish & Chips I've ever eaten,…read moreand I've had Fish & Chips in *many* eateries in the UK. The batter kept the fish moist and had a sweetness to it that was simply amazing. The chips (french fries to you Americans) were fantastic, and certainly better than most places. The star of this meal for me, though, was the Sticky Toffee Pudding. This was my first taste, and I was immediately smitten. Since this meal, I tried several other restaurants' version of the pudding, and none of them even came close to measuring up to The Water Witch. We enjoyed the atmosphere, aside from the smokers outside, and we'll definitely be back the next time we are in the area.

The pub itself isn't as big as it seems from outside, with much of the pub area divided into single-spaced, window-seated tables. On the plus side, that means it won't get too noisy when the placed is packed. The real ale selection is certainly adequate [I've seen better, and much worse, the latter more often], the staff generally nice and helpful, and the real ales being kept fresh. Recommended for Lancaster.
