This was actually our plan B, as we had initially wanted to stop by The Berkey Creamery for their highly ranked ice cream, but didn't feel the extremely long lines there were worth the limited time we had to spend in State College. Admission is complimentary, although there is a nominal fee for parking in the lots. It's a decent sized arboretum/garden for being located on a college campus. There was quite a few flowers in bloom during June when we visited. Depending on your level of interest, the arboretum can be navigated in 30 minutes or upwards of an hour if you're in no rush. I especially liked the viewpoint at the far end of the grounds and the children's garden seemed to be a hit amongst families. There's plenty of benches throughout the grounds to take in the beautiful surroundings. If you love green spaces & gardens, I'd recommend a visit to The Arboretum at Penn State a nice way to kill some time while visiting State College.

Everything is pristinely maintained, with something different and beautiful around each corner. Lots of signage labelling each plant and seating to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. I brought out my drawing pad and even had a few people approach asking if I was part of a drawing group -- it meets every Tuesday (I believe at 10 or 10:30am?) so I happily joined the group as they use the grounds for inspiration of whatever the weeks prompt and reconvene for a group review.

Before we could get the application in the guy in charge of the food vending is Rick Snyder and he sent us a email telling us that at this time they are not accepting any funnel cake vendors. Love the types of artists. You will see art like metal sculptures, basket weaving, some steam punk, salvage artists, and traditional painters. There is typically country or 50s/60s rock played by bands. The festival is laid back. Parking is good with typically 5 buck spots at private lots. The arts and crafts at this festival are typically all over the map. But all of it is a joy to view. It is easier the navigate than the one up the road a well.

We've always wanted to walk through the Palmer Museum but finally had an opportunity to do so when…read moreit started raining during our summer visit. Palmer is free although you do have to pay for parking which was still inexpensive. The Palmer has a wide variety of art. It's comprehensive without feeling overwhelming. The docents are also very knowledgeable and told us about the history of the museum. (Thank you, Dottie!) The building is only a few years old, and the architecture takes advantage of the adjacent arboretum which is also free and worth a stroll. Leave yourself 60-90 minutes to enjoy all the exhibits.

Palmer Museum of Art…read more I happened upon the Palmer Museum of Art while on a work trip and, to be honest, I wasn't expecting much more than a small university gallery. Instead, I found a surprisingly thoughtful and well-curated collection that easily rivals many regional museums. The museum itself is beautifully designed, bright, modern, and inviting without feeling overwhelming. The galleries flow naturally, making it easy to wander from room to room and spend more time than you originally planned. What struck me most was the range of the collection. From American paintings to contemporary works, the pieces are presented with care and clear interpretation, making the experience enjoyable whether you're a serious art lover or just a curious visitor with an hour to spare. For a museum located on a university campus, the quality of the collection is impressive. Several pieces made me stop longer than expected, and the curation feels intentional rather than simply academic. It's the kind of place where you go in thinking you'll do a quick walk-through and end up lingering. If you happen to be in the area, even for work, it's absolutely worth a visit. The Palmer Museum of Art is a reminder that sometimes the most rewarding cultural experiences are the ones you discover by accident. Topped the museum with a visit at the Creameryas recommended by the docent.

This is a near perfect standard modern movie theater. That is the bottom line. It is very typical…read morein most ways but it is a plus and needed in the Central PA area. The theater is clean. Very clean. There are distractions like arcade games in the lobby. They have a decent selection of films and show times along with digital sound and picture in all screens and 3d in some. The seats are very comfortable. The clerks are friendly and knowledgable. Clean bathrooms and sensical layouts. There are a few negatives. Tickets for myself and my 6 year old for a 3d movie were 18 total. I rarely get snacks or a drink because they are way up there in price. But I don't go for the snacks so no biggy. The only other negative is that the smaller outer theaters are close to the lobby and the noise really filters in there with a crowd out there. I guess I could also say the walls are very thin and you often hear sounds from the screen next door. But this happens in most modern theaters. I often travel 45 minutes to see a movie here. My home town theater makes this place look like the Taj Mahal.

However, for an outdoor game, it was an incredible, unforgettable experience. Despite the cold, it was an amazing day. And even better that Michigan State won in overtime. It was definitely a see of blue of all, with lots of chaos and confusion from Penn state fans about where they were sitting and how to even find their seats. But, everyone was respectful. The stadium did not have much service but thankfully the bathrooms were heated. Parking was hard and easier to park further away and walk. The outdoor hockey game was definitely a unique experience and I'm so grateful I was able to attend. I would definitely be interested to attend a football game here, but of course, only if MSU was playing. Go green!

We felt welcomed and many of them thanked us for coming. One of the tailgaters even gave us shots and beer while walking towards the stadium. Stadium was under construction during the game. Made it harder to maneuver to some seating areas. Regardless of the construction, there aren't a lot of signs to help navigate the area. Entrance ticket didn't even have what gate to enter purchased seats purchased seats in section NA. There was a massive ramp to walk up to some of the seating sections. One escalator was available on the home side of the stadium. Some of the top level was setup on rafters. Port-potties were in place for that level also. I expected more screens around the concourse for it to be such a large stadium. Visitor side was packed with Penn State fans also. Stadium benches are tight and hard to enter and exit when rows are full. Might as well leave your phone in the car. . .service was very spotty. Parking: We stopped and purchased a parking pass at a gas station off the highway. I wouldn't recommend parking anywhere near the stadium. Parked in lot 44. Event staff helped waved you in. Our section was near a hill where people were getting stuck trying to park. Plenty of port-o-potties around and bags for trash. Once again there were no signs to help navigate in the lot. We ended up walking around the stadium because exit signs to specific areas were non-existent. There were no event staff in the lot assisting with exiting after the game. Took us over 2 hours to get out of the lot and to the street. Use the shuttles.
