Decided to go try some local casino. Seen the Rushmore casino on the eighth street. Stopped in and…read morethe first thing was the bar tender/cashier carded me. Didn't bother me to be carded but the statement was that the cops were nearby and she was going to card everyone. I started to play then I heard a vacuum cleaner that was very loud. I didn't want to sit in a place where I thought I could sit and relax but all I coulcd hear was a vacuum cleaner all while we were there. I thought maybe it would end. But it just continues for an hour. I should have left but I was winning but had to put up with the sound. That was the first complaint. The second is that I know I was carded but no one else was. I seen 6 people come in the door but not one was carded. All were white and of course I was native but I was the only one that she carded. For this I wanted to call the managers and complain but found out it was a local corporation that have a tendency to discriminate against people of color so that wouldn't make a dent in there investigations if anything was going to be done. Probably fall on deaf ears but atleast I made an attempt to report this. Will not be returning to this place.

I truly do not understand all of the negative reviews about this hotel. We stayed here for a few…read moredays during our Dakotas vacation and could not have been more pleased with our stay. My top reason for booking here was for it's location being in the heart of downtown Rapid City, but also because of how nice it looked. I thought I was being bamboozled when I saw it was only $86 a night to book! I knew nothing prior to our stay that it was 'haunted' until seeing a section of the gift shop dedicated to American Horror Story, which prompted my Google search. The hotel definitely feels vintage but no weird occurrences, but maybe the ghosts here are just chill. ;) There is so much nearby that we were able to walk to, like restaurants, a barcade and even a comic book store. There is plenty of street parking as well as a parking garage across the street. We got lucky with a corner room and I felt like it was pretty spacious for the price. Not to mention great views of the Black Hills! Great choice of a place to stay when visiting Rapid City!

This is a nice enough historic hotel right in the middle of Rapid City…read more I stayed for 3 nights with my family. We had a one bedroom suite. The suite was very small, barely bigger than the king bed in the bedroom and the sofabed in the living room. The bathroom was pretty tiny, not big enough for 4 towels without hanging them on random doorknobs. There was no door between the two rooms. We arrived around 5PM, and our room was not ready yet. We were given two $15 vouchers for Starbucks to be used the next day only for the inconvenience. That was nice. When I made the reservation, I noted that there would be 4 of us in the room. When we got to the room, there were only 2 towels in the room, and there were no pillows for the sofabed. Also, the sofabed was brand new, and so the moving straps had not been removed, and the sofabed could not be opened. I had to call down to the front desk to bring scissors to open up the sofabed and to bring up more towels and pillows. The bed was comfortable, although the pillows were not great. The bathroom, as mentioned, was small with very little counter or shelf space. The shower/bath combo was cramped with a cloth curtain. Water pressure was not great, and even on the hottest setting, the water wasn't very warm and was very susceptible to getting colder. We were in town to visit the nearby sites, so we were out of the room most of the days. Imagine my surprise after returning that no housekeeping came after our first night. That was weird. After our second night, the housekeeper had come and made up the bedroom but not the living room (sofabed not made). She (she left a card with her name, Melaney) took the towels and again left only two clean towels. She did not take out the trash in any room. I was exhausted after a full day of driving and sightseeing, and the last thing I wanted to do was call down to the front desk to ask for two more towels and fresh sheets for the sofabed. It was very frustrating. Parking. The hotel itself only offers valet parking. There is a lot of street parking, and it is only $1/hour from 7am to 6pm on weekdays, $0.50/hour from 9am to 5pm on Saturdays. There's an app, so you can remember your space # and pay from your phone in the morning. The location really is wonderful, and there are neat historical things about the hotel. The kids loved looking at all the pictures and the stuffed bison heads. The staff was friendly, even if the hotel wasn't run particularly well.

Long Story: My husband and I just spent 13 hours of driving (not including food and gas stops- He got a job offer last minute and we needed to get across the county in 4 days). Front Desk: I chose this location because it was right off the highway- easy in and out. We got to the location around 10pm. I got out to go check in, the man at the desk wasn't friendly but definitely wasn't rude or off putting. He points me to the right direction of the room. First impression: This wasn't a regular hotel room, it's a mix of a hotel/ motel with a "shotgun" style room. Entry from the inside of the hotel and entry from the parking lot. Personally it really didn't feel secure. We opened the door to our assigned room and the bed was unmade, there were towels on the ground and trash in the bins. I genuinely thought we walked into someone's room. We didn't take another step and turned around to get a room change. The man at the desk apologized and assigned us a new room a few doors down. (Background it's a little stormy out, windy) We walk into the room- this time it's clean! (Though it didn't feel like it) I immediately notice the curtains were flapping away from the window, as I set my stuff down and unpack a little; Setting up our pet's food and water. I asked my husband to go shut the window, assuming it was accidentally left open. He walk over to go close it. Once at the window he turns to me and says "It IS closed." He attempts to make sure it's actually closed, and without avail the curtain were still flapping away from the window due to the wind. Whatever, it's late and we're both so exhausted. He then goes the take a shower while I unpack continue to unpack our toiletries and pajamas for the night. While he's showering a large spider comes out of the shower curtain. I squash it. Then find another in a corner. That was our last straw. We weren't going to sleep in a room with spiders and that wasn't isolated from the elements. He cuts his shower short; I pack the little I unpacked back up. We headed to the front desk to get a refund. The man at the desk wasn't thrilled about refunding us but did it. I don't think we spent more than 30-45 minutes at this location. Normally Best Westerns are great... but I definitely won't be staying at one anytime soon and if I do I'll be doing extensive research. Grateful for the refund but that was the least that they could've done. Yes, we really did sleep in the car, at this point it was almost 11pm and we didn't want to deal with anything else.
