Belle Star is the best of the best in the Fort for sure! We purchase a lot of items here for our home - not just decor but staple items. The booths here are well maintained and the staff is outstanding - Beth who owns the store is an amazing curator and an amazing business person who operates the place in such a way that it doesn't feel so much like a business and more like a swap meet between good friends. We have been long time customers - more than a decade now and followed her to the "new" location from the site she launched her local business years ago (now)! The store has a wait list for before who want to get in and the ones who come tend to stay. They offer vintage traits and groovy finds with a music room as a bonus full of vinyl and sound machines of all kinds! It's fun to peruse but I usually cannot help buying - it's hard to leave without something new (but oldish too)! read more

Hello! I am a local Fort Smith resident, and I just wanted to say how much Bell Starr Antiques deserves a shoutout! I absolutely love supporting our local shops and local venders. I would like to address the amazing organization and friendliness of the staff:) Beth the owner is absolutely amazing and really sweet. Shopping at Bell Starr is always an experience, like shopping in your cool older sisters closet, there are always treasures to be found. The price range is always fair and you can always get a bargain or two. I have seen some complaints about the lockers and offensive material in booths. On the locker standpoint, I understand how it can be frustrating to not have your belongings with you; but I will point out that a lot of the items are vintage and valuable and stolen items are unfortunate. Speaking from experience though if you simply ask to bring your purse in for personal use and needs they are usually really understanding and will let you slide. The venders who supply the goods are all different and what you see in style and taste Varys. Offensive items are usually not a problem if you find something to be upsetting that is to your own judgment as well as some items are time period and were made with a mind set not as forward thinking as the present. I absolutely love this store and always look forward to shopping! This place is no doubt our favorite spot in the whole Fort. We enjoy going here so often that we sometimes decide not to go so we don't seem too obvious. Need some cool antiques for a good price? Go here! The owner is very kind, welcoming, & friendly - and always jumps to help out! Great parking, big selection, and many varieties to choose from. I sympathize with a store's desire to protect itself from loss, and I'm very sorry that this store has apparently had enough problems with theft that a locker system is necessary. That said (and yes I read the reviews in favor of this practice), I carry a small purse when antiquing. I barely have room for a very small wallet, my reading glasses, tissue, lip balm, my car key and Altoids. Okay, I could leave the mints and lip balm in the glove box. The remainder I consider necessities. I don't want to have to run to a locker at the front of the store, or back to my car, every time I sneeze or want to change glasses. This is not a comfortable shopping experience. I also find it odd that I am not trusted from the moment I walk into the store, but I am supposed to trust total strangers with my belongings in a locker to which I supposedly have the only key. I went in to browse, had several items I was going to purchase. The fact that I walk into a booth and see very culturally offensive items geared to American Indians, I dropped everything and refuse to shop or spend a dime. Its racism at its finest and disgusting. read more

I have no idea what type of merchandise was in the building, after visiting hundreds of antique shops over the US, this was the first time I was asked to put my purse in a locker before entering, at which point we left. That was very insulting and I'm not sure where the incredibly warm owner was to welcome us in was but we didn't see her. Belle Starr is the best antique mall around with a very large selection. The owner and employees are fantastic and will answer any questions you may have and will even contact the booth owner to ask questions on your behalf. They no longer require you to lock up your bag but that was not an issue as far as I was concerned. I am Native American (we just say indian or Cherokee) and I usually visit the store once a month or more. I can't say I have ever seen any evidence of racism or racially offensive items. These are antiques or vintage items and they do come from a different time and place, that is what makes the items valuable or sentimental. I do believe if you found something absolutely appalling to the degree you were melting, then you could absolutely address the issue with the owner and she would be very receptive to speaking with the person who rents the space. All that aside, this is my favorite antique store in our area! Would recommend for a nice day trip to the fort! read more

First thing I noticed: Beth, the owner, is incredibly warm, welcoming, and friendly. When I think of that stereotypical "southern charm," she is what comes to mind. She seems genuinely interested in her customers and clearly has a passion for what she does. Bonus: I got a little history lesson on exactly who Belle Starr is (interesting gal, that one!) I was seriously impressed with how big the selection was in this store. Wall to wall antiques in a giant building. I ended up buying a lot more than I originally intended, but it still didn't cost me an arm and a leg after it was all said and done. Very reasonable prices. I found the cutest little cigarette holder as a gift and along the way found a little end table and other knickknacks I couldn't live without. Even if you're just here to window shop, it's a beautiful walk down memory lane for the young and old alike (I'm somewhere in the middle ;) And a little admin note: I didn't get huffy about the purse policy. If you've ever owned a business, then you understand. To the poor, poor ladies who felt like "criminals" (eye roll), you can live without your chapstick, whiskey flask, Elizabeth Taylor perfume, brass knuckles, iPhone or whatever it is you carry in your huge diaper bag for 20 minutes. It's not a big deal and you're helping a small business owner protect herself and lower your costs in the end, so...chill. Looking forward to visiting here again next time I'm in town! read more
