I'm writing this review to hopefully save someone from having the same horrible experience I had. I rented from this company and lived at this building for over a year. It was a nightmare and the most stressful living conditions I've ever encountered.
It's important to note that this apartment on first glance was my dream apartment. Anyone considering moving in to the building would feel the same way. But, in reality, horrible management and a building in serious disrepair are far from a dream.
For starters, the management and owner come and go from the apartments without notifying you. On several occasions they let themselves in to my apartment without advance notice. After I complained multiple times, they began calling me the day of to let me know they'd be entering the same day. (Visit the Yelp reviews for Urban Resource to learn more about the horrible management company.)
There was a very serious leak in the building (which forced out my neighbors below and caused mold to grow) that they said was coming from my deck. They told me repairs would take 2 days. It took 4 months. During this time they removed all the doors from the back of my apt, leaving it open to the outdoor elements and anyone could (and did!) enter my apartment since I had no protection. I lived in a construction zone with no privacy for 4 months. Everything was covered in dust from the work and I was unable to use my kitchen through this whole ordeal.
During the construction they discovered there were problems with the roof. A failed attempt to fix the roof resulted in water pouring in to my apartment during a rainstorm. It was coming from the outlets, the doors, the windows, the light fixtures, anywhere that it could escape. It flooded my apartment and the apartments below mine. With so much rain, the ceiling finally collapsed. My kitchen was now open to the sky.
Having lost my belongings to their negligence and having lived in a construction zone for 4 months, I finally reached my breaking point. I had no choice but to move out. When I decided to leave, the owner held my deposit and charged me for "damages" to a bathroom vanity. Mind you, he charged me for "damages' when I had no ceiling in my kitchen. The final straw? He told me he was withholding the money because I CHOSE TO MOVE OUT due to a "small leak". When your entire apt floods, your ceiling caves in on you and you lose your belongings to mold and water damage I do not believe you are choosing to move out and I do not believe that qualifies as a "small leak".
Please understand that this apt is not the beauty it appears to be. There are major issues with the building and the management. Signing a lease here is a guarantee that you are losing your privacy, your peace of mind and your deposit. I sincerely hope this review saves someone from the same hell I experienced. read more
