This place took a hit from COVID. They apparently had a restaurant out front that is now closed . They had a goat milk ice cream that I had heard was amazing. We sampled all the products currently available. They change periodically. The cheese spreads were original, veggie, pumpkin, fig, honey and red pepper. They were all fantastic. We bought one of each plus a Greek Kiss cheese wrapped in grape leaves and a Southern Bell with pecans and bourbon flavors. All of it was so good I'm sure we will use it quick and be back. You really should visit or order online. I for one am hoping they can open a restaurant somewhere in the area using their products. I really want to try that ice cream or a cheesecake. BC is the type of place where you can enjoy as a Sunday Drive destination. After reading other Yelper's reviews, I opted out of the tour so this review is only for the café, and products. The quaint town of Elkmont features Belle Chevre (and apparently another goat cheese farm that is going to go to the winner of an essay contest). Parking is ample and I believe the owner is a graphic designer as well as artisan cheese maker, so the design is spot on! I love the logo and the look and feel of the café. On the checkout counter of the café, are the samples. The lady doles out the samples on a wooden spoon reminiscent of a tongue depressor. I didn't care for that. However, they have crackers that you may break into squares for your samples. Win! I tried all the goat cheese samples and loved the fig, the coffee, and the pimento cheese the most, and then the "regular" is really good too. Behind where you sample cheese (meaning behind your back) is a refrigerator containing the items for purchase, and you can buy the cheesecake (my family's fav) at the sample and checkout counter. I ordered a grilled pimento cheese BLT and it was really delicious! I don't recall the price (8.00 maybe?) but it was hot and delivered in a~ 15 minutes. I purchased several of the cheeses that are in jars at room temperature and we really enjoyed one of them (I believe it was the Tuscan Chevre that we all liked, but it may have been the Greek Kiss 'Grape Leaved' Discs). I also purchased the cranberries and walnuts disk of cheese. The cheese wrapped in grape leaves was really good, but not the grape leaf. It was tough, but imparted a delicious flavor! I've been told that Isom's Orchard on 72 in Athens carries BC's products and that Costco in Huntsville does, but don't quote me on that. Go here, it's so quaint, you are missing out if you don't take the pretty drive and try this good cheese! read more

For a small town, Elkmont, Alabama really knows how to cheese. From Honey to Fig, to Greek to plain... there's a unique flavor for everyone! We got to see the goats housed in the back, which are just show goats. The company's output has become too large for milking their own goats, so they outsource. They also outsource the honey and some of other toppings that could be local. Mostly they just form the curds into blocks of cheese and add the flavorings here. The cafe left a lot to be desired for. The service was not very good at all. For one worker, It seemed like we got an eye roll after every order that was placed. The other was friendly. The sandwiches they featured did not have enough cheese product in them to make you want to buy more. The sandwiches weren't terrible, just not unique. All in all I do recommend the tour (use a Groupon) but not the cafe as much. You can make a meal at home with the product just how you like it. read more

Day Date with Babi. Belle Chèvre is a goat cheese creamery in Elkmont Alabama. A small town doing great things. If you're ever near it STOP BY. The tour and tasting is awesome. We tried I think all of their goat cheeses and 3 new dips that just came out a few months ago. I absolutely love the original in the cup and the log. I loved the fig, cinnamon, and the pimento cheese one as well. Lmao. There was maybe only one I didn't love and but I would still eat it. He paired one with a cinnful pepper jelly and I was done at that point. That stuff was soooooooo darn good. I had to buy it. The guide went out in the rain to get a baby goat for us to see since it was pouring. We met a 1 month old baby who hasn't been named yet. Super interesting experience. They also have a cafe for you to have some lunch at. The tour came with 2 free goat cheese spreads of your choice. Kese chose pimento and I chose original. And we were starving and excited about what we tasted and went to cafe. The damn goat cheese cheesecake was amazing that we tried on the tour and they had samples in the cafe too. We may or may not have had several samples. Kese had a Pimento BLT and I had a B.E.B (Bacon, Egg, Beet) Sandwich. Yalllllllll that sandwich was the best sandwich ever and if you know me you know I DO NOT order sandwiches when I'm out eating. But this by far was the best sandwich ever. Truly that lady fried that damn egg PERFECTLY. I could've hugged her. Kese detest beets and I made her bite my sandwich anyway. Y'all should've seen her face. Priceless. She hateddddddd the beets still. Lmaooooooo. They had different products that were made from goats milk. The lotion was almost unbelievable. It made my hands feel like satin. Sold. Lip balm I assumed would make my lips feels like my hands. Sold. And it did. I opened it in the store. Cinnful pepper jelly. Made my eyes rolls. Sold. I found this place on Groupon it I would definitely go back regular price. It was worth the 2 hour drive and the price. I throughly enjoyed this place. The people were very very pleasant. I also absolutely love the story of the new owner and I love the decor and design. It's sooooooo modern and nice. My review is scattered I know. I'm still excited. What a gem in the middle of nowhere! Elkmont, Alabama is 2 hours away from our home. It was indeed a rainy date that was worth the ride with my love. Trying all the variety of goat cheese yummers! The dips were great also. My favorite was the pimento goat cheese. The best pimento cheese ever! And I like to think I'm a pimento cheese con-osier! (Atleast in my mind lol). We were able to tour and observe the workers making cheese all handmade. Although the rain didn't allow us to see all the goats. The tour guide brought a baby goat to us and he was a cutie! The history of the belle chèvre was pretty interesting also! The food at the diner was good. I detest tomatoes but they had a BLT with pimento cheese as the spread. It was a no brained for me. So my BL was super delicious I would definitely come again if time ever permits! If you are ever in North Alabama, please stop by.. buy the groupon if available but if not, pay and take the tour.. it's worth it, if you into the history of how places and things came to be. On a beautiful day in October, this is a terrific place to visit! Mom and I took the scenic drive up I-65 to the small town of Elkmont. I purchased the Groupon, despite the critique of the tour. All in all, I have to agree with the reviews. The tour is nice, but hardly worth $10 each. Consider this, though. The $10 includes a free spread per person, which is a $6 value, meaning the tour is only $4. Still not really worth it. That's the official opinion. I, however, am an information junkie, so I loved the tour. Dennis does a great job! The tour introduces you to three, non-milk-producing, for-show-only, goats (Midnight, Jenny, and Daisy.) There's also the cool chicken coop, and a short film about the owner and her journey into cheese-making. The tour also goes past the viewing area of the production room. Interested parties likely could view this without the tour, but the information provided (to the information junkie!) makes it fun. Tasia, the owner, was on site this day and came out to speak with us. Hearing her passion for the area and vision for the product is an added bonus! The shop on the main road (in front of the creamery) offers free samples (also included with the tour, but you can sample without touring.) This, of course, was my favorite part of the tour! Don't miss tasting the scrumptious offerings. Even if you're not a goat cheese fan, you owe it to yourself to at least try the fig and honey spreads. You know you can never go wrong with anything called cheesecake, and that's certainly true here as well! Elkmont is off the beaten path ~ there's just something spiritually renewing about this area and its pastoral beauty! We had lunch at the cafe ~ pimento (that's how they spell it!) cheese BLTs with pickled okra. Lunch was good, but the sandwich convinced me that pimento cheese is not the one I want to take home. There's nothing wrong with it, but the onion powder was a bit strong for my taste. I left with the Honey and the Coffee (Yummmm. . .) and Mom got the Fig. I'm excited about trying the Honey blended into a whipped topping as instructed by Dennis. Very unique cheese factory. I enjoyed every bit of this stop except that their food and beverage menu was very limited. They offer a variety of sandwiches and cheese plates. It would have been even better with more options such as green salads or veggies with their cheese incorporated. Beverages were slim as well with Milo's Sweet tea, Sun Drop, and bottled water as options from their cooler or coffee. Try the cheeses which is why we stopped in. Also the check in offer is from the back cheese factory and not in the front Cafe part. Enjoy! read more

What a treat nestled in little old Elkmont, Alabama. I actually grew up a few miles down the street from Belle Chevre on Fort Hampton Rd so I've been a fan for years but never been on the tour. In town for a wedding with some time to kill, I finally had the chance to give them a try. DON'T FORGET TO PURCHASE YOUR GROUPON! It makes​ what's already a great value an even greater one! Since we were so close, we decided to stop by the storefront and have a look around and to schedule our tour. Scheduling the tour was quite easy and we got a sneak peek of what was in store for us. Fast forward a few hours and we're back for our tour! Keep in mind that the tour is in the actual​ factory and not the shop. The tour was short, maybe 30 minutes with a video and a peek into their operations. You also get to meet one of their baby goats and sample all of their cheeses! And by all,​ I mean ALL. There's a nice setup at the end of the tour with different vehicles to try the cheese on, each chosen to accentuate the cheese. We take a journey through all the cheeses, how they're made and how to use them. From their spreads to their logs, everything is REALLY delicious. The entire experience from making the reservations, eating lunch at the shop, taking the tour, and the tastings were a pleasure. While it is a small plant, the entire staff was friendly, professional, knowledgeable, and especially FUN! We learned about the history of the town, the building, and the cheese making. Dennis and Carlos made the experience awesome! We laughed and had great discussions about different flavors, recipes, and future plans to include cheese and wine pairings! This is a review of the cafe, NOT the tour. Well, the cafe was a little dead on Sat after our 11am tour, which was short, but very informative and packed with cheese samples - I give the tour 4 stars! I was so bummed about the sandwiches! One got the BLT, one the Turkey Melt, and 2 the Ham & Cheese. First, the bread was just white bread you could buy in the bread aisle at the grocery store - no variation in bread. Then, they put cheddar cheese on the Turkey & Ham sandwiches which completely wipes out any evidence of the goat cheese spreads featured - a real bummer. The meats featured were just average lunch meat, and so plain and blah...service was fine, but indifferent, and they were blasting pop music which was kind of incongruous with the setting. This could be sooooo much better done with just a little more effort. I like the pickled okra on the side...but then they just sold canned drinks and bagged chips like a Subway. It needs help! Nothing was horrible, but the variety of crackers and spreads featured on the tour was far superior to the cafe! read more

We decided to drive up to Elkmont today and do the tour. However, very sadly no tours today. But we still had some delicious goat ice cream. It was so creamy. Yet I have to say the cheesecake was my favorite. Never even thought of making goat cheesecake. It was heavenly. We will be back to do the tour. read more

My husband surprised me which a tour here for my birthday and it DID NOT disappoint. The guides were knowledgeable and friendly. We tasted many cheeses, all delicious. There were goats we fed carrots that were adorable and full of personality. 10/10 would recommend booking a tour, grabbing some lunch and/or ice cream. My wife and I along with another couple decided to give the "Saturday Supper" a try at the Belle Chevre tasting room in Elkmont and were very disappointed with the meal. The atmosphere is neat, but the food was terrible and was served at room temperature for all courses. The meal started with a sampler of chicken liver pate on a crouton (I personally don't like chicken liver) but others in my group did not object. The appetizer was a fried green tomato slice with goat cheese and would have been great, had it been served at the proper temperature. The entree consisted of two thinly (1/4") sliced pieces of pork loin wrapped in prosciutto that literally had to have been sitting for hours prior to serving as the meat was completely dry and at a true room temperature. The pork was accompanied by a tablespoon of risotto that was under cooked (very crunchy) and also at room temperature. The plate also included shaved pieces of zucchini and onions with very little flavor or seasoning. The dessert was intended to be bananas foster, but turned out as a room temperature 2 inch slice of banana sitting in melted room temperature ice cream. The meal cost a fixed ~$35/person and we all left hungry and very disappointed. This restaurant simply isn't setup to serve people food in a timely manner or at proper/safe temperatures. Throughout the meal you could tell that folks weren't enjoying the meal and that the staff was struggling to keep up even though there wasn't a full house. We will not return to this restaurant and will recommend that others not waste their time and money either. read more

This review is for the tour. I purchased Groupon which included guided tour, tasting and one spread to take home. The Groupon was worth it, but nor the regular tour price ($12/person) because the tour itself was short and uneventful. You get free tasting up front anyways. The goats, though cute and very friendly, were not as exciting as we had anticipated. The staffs were super nice and sweet and they did seem to know their guide-materials, i.e. building history, town history, cheese making, etc. We just felt like there wasn't much to do to make the tour interesting. He talked a bit about the history. And then we went to see the 3 goats*. After that it was into a barn-like area for a 9 mins video. Then to a window where we watched a lady packing the original spreads. It was a Saturday morning so absolutely nothing to watch. Even on the weekdays, we don't think there will be much "action." *They do NOT milk their goats there. They do NOT even use local goat farm anymore. For demand and production purpose, they use/buy/contract/franchise/whatever from a TN goat farm. We ate lunch there. We thought the food was delish as usual. The Pimento cheese fondue (came with bread, sausage and celery) was excellent! They should do more of those with separate pairing, i.e. with just fruits or just veggies or different type of meat. The lady in there was so sweet too! I stand by my 4 stars for this section. Verdict, skip the tour and just go for the cheese and food. read more

Belle Chevre is definately a destination spot in the quaint town of Elkmont. Lunch there is always a treat with the homeade fresh sandwiches. The goat cheese selection is tasty and always available for take home, and the chessecake is to die for!!! The owner Tasia is very passionate about her recipes, and if you are lucky, she will be there to autograph her cookbooks. If you love goat cheese you must stop in do the tour and eat at the Belle Chèvre. The menu is small, but everything is delicious with several options for a light lunch or breakfast. I wish they had ice cream more often as recently every time I've stopped in they have been out and their ice cream is absolutely to die for especially the butter pecan. The cheesecake is delicious and the staff is as friendly as they can be - you know you're in the south and by the time you leave you feel like family. read more

Our book club took a field trip to Elmont and were sadly disappointed in a road trip we had so been looking forward to. We spent ten dollars each to walk by the bathrooms that had information about the owner and her accomplishments, walked ten more steps to see some women rolling cheese, and then fifty steps more to see three sleepy goats. Oh and a movie that didn't play out until an employee happened by and turned on the eight minute excerpt. Any food or wine tours I've ever been on subtract the admission price towards the purchase of their products. Not here. They charge ten more dollars for the cookbook than Costco does and more for each of their products than you can get elsewhere. No discounts were to be found in any capacity. The tasting was okay, but surely did not make up for the admission price. If the customers were made to feel appreciated in any way by giving a discount towards product purchase if you have to pay for a tour, or if you could buy their products at a price you couldn't touch in a regular grocery store, or if some type of special sample was given for tour goers - it would have made all the difference in the world. Recently my husband & I had the pleasure of visiting Belle Chevre. We had a wonderful experience! After following Tasia and Belle Chevre on her website and in every magazine imaginable, it was quite a treat to meet this lovely lady and view the grounds. We truly enjoyed the goat cheese tasting as well as the incredibly awesome cheesecake tasting! We purchased a cheesecake and absolutely loved every bite:) We have a true appreciation for what has been accomplished through this small business as we dabble in goat cheese making ourselves. Everyone that we met on our visit there was so full of good ole southern hospitality and made us feel very welcome. We hope on our next visit to Belle Chevre to stay for lunch!!! read more
