My wife reminded me there was a recent paranormal show we watched on Netflix that was filmed at Madison Dry Goods. I remembered the show and the impact on the people that stayed there during their 28 days. We actually talked about not wanting a ghost to attach to us and follow us home! We arrived a little after 2pm on a Saturday. Street parking was easy. We walked in and started to peruse the clothing area and were greeted by the owner. We learned he just purchased the business 11 days earlier. We chatted about the history and the filming for the Netflix show. As we began to look closer at their clothing items we were really impressed with the quality and their prices. They also had several racks featuring discounted items. We then walked over to the dry goods area which offered a lot of local products including honey, jams and jellies, popcorn, candy, grits and more. We decided to walk upstairs to look at the museum and some of the history of the hotel. This space was featured in the Netflix documentary and while it was cool it was also a bit creepy. We also learned they plan to use some of the space upstairs to have a antique marketplace area where people can rent booth space in the near future which will be a cool addition. We both ended up buying some clothing items and chatting with the owners. They were very welcoming and helpful. Wonderful stop and we will absolutely be back when we are in the area. I walked in and was so kindly greeted by two young women and they stopped everything to help me. I had a difficult task for them... My grandmother had died a few days prior and I wanted to do her hair like she used to have it prior to her dementia. I showed them her photograph and they pointed me to many different products and had lots of product knowledge and efficient customer service. Because of these women--whose names I unfortunately did not get (except for one, Tori) helped me to make my grandmother look beautiful for her funeral. I cannot thank them enough. I have returned to this location and again saw Tori who remembered me and asked how everything went!! They are beautiful souls and I am so grateful for the experience that they provided. I have been very happy with the service--we have a enjoyed a beautiful dining room suite now for several years from Larrys, along with the chandelier in the same dining room. It was an unexpected surprise to find such a beautiful fixture in an adjoining area--this store goes on and on! She was a fabulous cook, and always said if she could just keep ONE cookbook, Meta Given's set would be the one she would choose. I was browsing in the kitchen wares area, and there was a fine set on the shelf in very good condition. With five daughters, that's two down and three to go. It's always a treat to see what's new, and Larry is so nice--many years in the business, so very knowledgeable, and this is his passion and it shows. The racks are super crowded with stuff and there is barely any walking space. This would be a much better shopping experience if they spaced things out and brightened it up.
