I was driving outside of Houston looking for scenic areas to take pictures of flowers over the…read moreweekend. On my way through Brookshire, I came across a patch of land that had a good growth of Bluebonnets. I pulled over and started taking some pictures with the girl friend. We were there for just shy of ten minutes when a white van pulled up. A tall man stepped out and said, "You know this is private property, right?" I said, "I do now". There were no signs posted anywhere indicating that it was private property and that trespassing wasn't allowed. He proceeded to say, "How could you not know this is private property? You can't take pictures here". I said, "Fine, we'll be on our way". Again, he asked, "What made you think this wasn't private property?" I ignored him and walked toward my car. Seriously, what's the point of an argument? I was just taking pictures of flowers. He then said, "This property belongs to the church". About 75 or so yards away was a white church. "You can stay if you make a donation to the church. Are you going to make a donation?" I continued walking to the car. Well, at that point the real motive revealed itself. I wasn't destroying the property. I wasn't being loud or obnoxious. I didn't leave any trash. It was about extracting money. I've never experienced anything so petty. This guy left his house, jumped in his car, drove about 100 yards down a dirt road, and asked for a donation to the church, or I'd have to leave the premises. Apparently the very large plot of land was owned by the church, and I suspect the house this guy came out of too. Certainly not very Christian like in my book.
