Giles florist has a great windwo display when meaningful times of the year come round , such as valentines day and easter for example.. Great themed windows look the part and make a big impact. Inside the staff are more than helpful and will help you choose on certain flowers that go with each other to make a striking bouquet. You can walk in a buy some straight away or get them to make something up for you to pick up later. They also do lovely bouquets that can be delivered aswell. Graham Giles has been in the same spot for literally 20 and more years which is good to see really. A great florist that has some really nice flowers and arrangements that are also priced accordingly and well.

Chapmans is the best garden centre in the local area; there is a good variety of plants, shrubs and trees, which are reasonably priced and very healthy. The tree section in particular has a wide variety of plants, more impressive than most bigger garden centres. The members of staff are cheerful and helpful, and genuinely understand about the plants they are selling, which is a novelty for a garden centre! It also sells mainly plants and plant related products, rather than the myriad of 'tat' that most garden centres sell. The Topiary Tea Rooms is set in a small wooden building, but has a beautiful outlook onto a sun-soaked patio where wild birds feed very relaxing. They only serve drinks and cakes, but I would definitely recommend the cheese scones. As the weather steadily improves, I would heartily recommend Chapmans as a place to go to rejuvenate your garden.

If ever their is a problem with any plants there is never an issue with exchange, which I never had. Kevin is top guy, as is all the staff and their knowledge of all plants is so very helpful. Whenever we visit we always come away with some plant regardless of size, and most important for us, a great cup of tea / coffee and a lush scone or cake all home baked. What can I add " Well done staff and management at Chapmans " You won't be disappointed.

The Grange Garden Centre is a very very good garden centre, My landscaped garden in the village…read morewill testify to that, the owner is always accomodating if you buy a lot of stuff from there, There is a Surf/Snowboard shop, garden Furniture, Nursery, Farm Shop on site (featured on Hairy Bikers and Michael Portillo's railway Journeys), where you can get genuine Melton Mowbray produce. The Restuarant is nice enough during the day, nothing special, but the Licensed Coffee shop and bar is a must, cakes are excellent, and the wood burner and log cabin interior make the whole place feel like an alpine lodge, especially with the large fire surrounds, lotten throws, and fresco on the wall behind the counter. In summer the outdoor area and log cabin bar make it feel altogether different, almost like a beach, but I have been lucky enough to get stranded here in winter in a blizzard and the decor comes into it's own when you are sat around the fireplace with snow outside.. I no longer live in Asfordby Valley but I visit quite often and miss the place a lot.. it's my little escape from the east midlands..

There is quite a good selection and the place is well worth a visit for that reason. The owner is a nice chap and is very friendly and helpful.

P & K Tarrant is a lovely little shop in sleepy Polesworth…read more Although it's small and tucked away on a corner block, it's the glorious flowers and plants neatly lined up for sale outside the shop that draws you in. They charmed me, and stopped me dead in my tracks as I walked by last Saturday. On closer inspection I was astounded to see how this greenest of Greengrocers seems to double up as a mini Garden Centre. I just had to go in and browse the hundreds of seeds they had for sale. Then the penny dropped! Maybe this is why the cottage gardens that surround some of Polesworth's more historic homes look so irresistible. P & K Tarrant certainly has a lot to answer for. They don't sell sweets here, but everything about it and the garden's it serves, is just like a chocolate box - you never know what you're going to get!

The estate houses a stable block which has been converted into a craft centre, there are walks around the estate & lake, a church (overlooked by the National Trust) and a specialt aquatics centres. So with all this at hand it is a popular day out and many people visit the garden centre just for a nose. As a garden centre it is well laid out with a good range of plants but they are expensive compared to other centres in the region. Their range or outdoor ornaments is poor in my opinion. As the prices are more on the expensive side this is a place for you to buy 'treat' or specialist plants as opposed to the lock, stock & barrel of your gardening needs. Within the garden centre is the Peach Tea Room set in the old oconservatory which is a lovely setting for a cupp but the food is disappointing (you'd be better spending more and walking over to the Stable Tea Rooms). The tea room doesn't take cards by the way. The inside part of the garden centre has a gift and fancy homewares section. They always have a good choice of conservatory and outdoor furniture. From October they dedicate a large part of the indoors to their Christmas stock which is worth a visit in itself. They always present their Christmas stock beautifully and have a number of special evenings and events in the run up to Christmas such as reindeer and Santa arriving. They have a Santa ride & grotto which is ridiculously expensive in my opinion (2007 price was £7 per child!) A nice garden centre to saunter around, often has nice gift bits to buy and their actual Christmas decorations are well priced but otherwise it leans towards expensive and it can be easy to get carried away!

The Market Hall is situated between the bus 'station' on Northampton Road and St Marys Place. The Northampton Road entrance will take you into the general market section where you will find haberdashers, adults and childrens clothing stalls, a barber, new and second hand toy stalls, baby equipment and china/collectibles, and on occasion specialist chairty stalls. From here you can go through to the produce market (also accessible from St Marys Place) where there is fresh fruit and veg, baked goods, butchers and cheesemongers, along with a cafe with seating area and a habit-forming old fashioned sweet stall with all the jars lined up on shelves. There is also a general community noticeboard on the wall dividing the two areas. Whilst not as well frequented as in previous years, the market is still a valuable part of Harborough shopping, and all the stallholders are more than willing to assist you. Very good access for wheelchairs and buggies, there is a carpark to the side of the Hall, or further spaces can be found at Sainsburys.

Also gains a good christmas department at christmas and offer nice decorations. The palnts are good prices and it is a one stop shop with ragrds to your garden. We moved to a new house and bought all our garden needs from there: plants, compost, pots, gloves, food etc and were very impressed with the seletion and price. I live near to it so it is convenient for me but if you do not it could be quite hard to find. I also believe there is an offer to OAPs which I have heard good comments about but do not know the details of.
