I have bounced around to different Fort Lauderdale salons after moving here 5 years ago and couldn't quite find a perfect fit with the dozen or so places I have tried out. I wanted an easy low maintenance blond (yes I know, no such thing with blond), and Tomy came through. I came in with three layers of color- dark roots about 2 inches long, bleached muddy blond through the middle and orange ends. It was a disaster grow out. I had a consult with Markie for blonde highlights and to blend in my roots but since Markie couldn't do highlights at the moment, she deferred me to Tomy. I didn't know I was in for a treat. I showed Tomy pics of what I wanted and he insisted that the color I wanted would wash me out and that I would not be happy with the maintenance since I wanted low maintenance. Initially, I was disheartened but I can appreciate his honesty and after he explained what he thought would work better for me yet achieve something close to what I was looking for. I thought I came in for a consult but he worked me in between his clients so that he could show me what he could achieve yet still make me happy. Mind you, the salon was super busy but the man is a multitasking genius! He did a toner and root scrape while Markie did my haircut and Yasleen did my blowout. Did I mention that my color was a disaster? Well, 2 hours later, what was flat and orange and 3 different colors was now bright, golden and well blended. My dark roots melted into the blond so seamlessly, you would think Michelangelo painted it himself. I absolutely love the results!

After scheduling my appt 3 weeks in advance online (pretty much only way to book), she canceled my appt a day before my appt. No reason why, no explanation, I just got a text that my appt was declined. I sent her a text asking for her to call me so that I could re-book and no reply. About a week later I reached out again asking for her to please call me so that I could book and again no reply. Communication is key and not replying back to customers is not the way to run a business.

She opened the salon door calm, collected, and completely confident while I walked in feeling embarrassed, defeated, and convinced my hair was beyond saving. Not only did she squeeze me in at the last minute, she willingly took on a corrective cut and corrective color that many stylists wouldn't touch!!! especially with zero notice! She never made me feel like it was impossible or I was a problem. She just got to work. Less than three hours later, mind you....never has my hair taken less than 3hrs for a normal color and cut, & somehow this woman literally transformed it! Watching someone operate at that level of skill is incredible. My mom was a hairdresser for years and always took clients at the house. Trust, I've seen a lot! There was no panic, no gimmicks, no upselling...just years of expertise, thoughtful decision-making, and genuine artistry. But what impressed me even more was who she is. Jody is honest. She's real. She has incredibly high standards without an ounce of ego. She listened, she was patient, and she worked with me despite my very tight budget because she knew I was trying to prepare for a life-changing interview. Since then, my friends and family haven't stopped telling me how much brighter and lighter I look. Not just my hair...but me!!! They keep saying I'm smiling with my whole face again and standing a little taller. And they're right! I walked into that interview today feeling like myself again confident, put together, and present. I crushed the it! Would that have happened without Jody? Maybe. Would I have shown up as the fullest version of myself? Honestly... I don't think so. Sometimes healing shows up in the strangest places. Sometimes it's in the chair of a hairstylist who reminds you what it's feels like to recognize yourself in the mirror again....
