We too, will use the suggestion from them for the headstone monument. However, their assistance in this process is only to advise. The monument company that is chosen is responsible for the actual delivery and placement of that stone. This is not the first funeral I have been involved with. My husband is a minister in another city in WI and we have worked with many families over the years. I personally wanted to post this review now because while each client can express their viewpoint, I would never suggest that 1 star is merited. Emotions run rampant during seasons of grief and misplaced blame may not be fair to a reputable business such as this. August Helke and his son, Charles, made furniture, bar and store fixtures, as well as church cabinets. They started Helke Furniture Company, located at 319 Fourth Street, Wausau, in 1874. Since coffins differed little from fine upholstered furniture, the two craftsmen naturally evolved into the funeral business. Charles was among the first licensed embalmers in the Wisconsin. In 1939, Charles and his son Carl built Wausau's first funeral home located at 413 Jefferson Street. The founder's grandsons, Charles and Richard, were part of the business by 1962, when Helke's built a second funeral home on Wausau's expanding west side, at 302 Spruce Street. What a great guy. My Mom died of cancer and her body was emaciated by cancer and was hesitate to go with an open casket. When I seen how Mom was prepared she was absolutely beautiful! Everyone said the same. She was elegant like she was pre sickness. Also, they prepared all my old photos of my Moms life with the right touch of music added. It was a piano rendition of "Country Roads Take Me Home" that John Denver made in the 1970's. It was so beautiful and appropriate. The place for a funeral palor is modern and not creepy. Cheerful and a great place to celebrate a past life, not some depressing old dark place. I really can't say enough. They were all so warm, compassionate and caring. This time, we arrived and were surprised by all the floral displays - at least half of the graves were adorned with flowers in the built-in urns on the graves. It made the cemetery a much more cheerful place to be. The grounds are very well kept and peaceful. We went into the office to get the grave locations, and the clerk was very helpful with a marked map and even offered to drive us over. At my grandparents grave, the urn was wedged so that we could not put flowers in, but the cemetery sent someone right over who helped pry it loose, and clean it up. He was also very nice. When he heard I was from out of town, He told me about the cemetery's flower program so that I could have flowers put on my grandparents grave whenever I wanted (like every year on their birthdays). Just super nice and helpful. I really feel like my loved ones are well cared for here.
