In town for a surprise Birthday party we had to lay low to not tip the party girl off. We have stayed at the Tower before and picked it again as it's good value for the dollar. We had eaten lunch here on another visit and were satisfied with the meal. Not earth shattering but pretty tasty. As we had driven most of the day we didn't want to do more driving to get dinner. We saw that they were advertising a new pizza menu so we decided to give it a try. We make pizza at home all the time so our expectations were pretty high. We were not disappointed at all as the pizza was very tasty, large and covered in toppings which were great. We ate as much as we could put down and saved the rest in our rooms fridge. Top drawer pizza in our mind. In the other hand, the following morning we went to the diner for breakfast, and probably have only had a worse meal once or twice. Our server wrote down our order on a piece of paper that had scribbles all over it, so we wondered how she was going to get it right. We were spot on with our assessment! She talked quite a bit to no one, took my tea to the wrong table and left it there even though the patron made it clear he didn't order it. I finally got my tea after asking a second time. Our food came out totally wrong with scrambled and not over medium and sunny up. When she said to the lovely K, scrambled, and was told no, slid the plate to my side. I told her no sunny side up, and she said no scrambled, I wrote it down. The food was taken away and she came back with her notes and the entry ticket she had and tried to show us that we were wrong. When she was proven that she was wrong she blamed the kitchen for not reading what she entered. The lovely K's pancakes were forgotten, and then promised in two minutes. She got them after I had eaten my entire breakfast, other than the potatoes that were barely warm, and dotted with potatoes that had black spots all over them. Needless to say they were not eaten. The toast was so cold that the butter wasn't even remotely melted into the bread, and it was so dry that jam had to be put on each piece so you could choke it down. Once again when the bill was presented we were shown paperwork to show that the kitchen was to blame, which was not the case. My tea was taken off the bill for our troubles with the service and the food. I realize that people have a bad day from time to time, but the vast difference between the pizza the night before, and the fiasco that was breakfast cannot be overlooked. We've never had a server that was so vehement in her opinion of doing a great job, and that we, or the kitchen, were at fault for her shortcomings. We'll stay at the hotel again for sure, but will not subject ourselves to the breakfast situation that was amongst the worst experiences of our travels. read more

Went there today . Ordered the Beef dip . The bread which was a hot dog bun was old, dried out, and moldy. When complained the lady offered a new sandwich which I refused but I ate the fries . In the end she charged me for the beef dip refusing to void it and only charge me for side fries . Was not impressed. Would not recommend this location ever. Tables were also dirty, not wiped at all. While we waited for service the lady was talking to a customer for 10 minutes and the other lady ignored us . read more

Rolled into town on a Friday evening. Not many places were still open but Begbie's was. Outdoor seating and friendly server. Pizza was freshly made, crust was clearly handmade. Stopping here for a night on route to Prince George with my daughter. I ordered the Canadian burger which was a good basic burger, she ordered the chicken teriyaki with rice. It had too much sauce, was more like a soup, had some of the chicken and veggies, she left hungry. Don't order the iced tea. Service was very good. Older dated restaurant, clean. read more

I went to this restaurant based on recommendations on yelp, I was pleasantly surprised how I was warmly welcomed I was when I came in. I had the chicken stirfry on rice, it was a very large meal and very tasty. The garlic toast was a little on the small side but the meal overall was great. I found the price to be a on the high side for a stir-fry, nevertheless I was very pleased with the service and the food. My server's name was Ariadne, She was super attentive and very hospitable. If I ever drive through again, I definitely will be stopping back for another meal. I also enjoyed the karaoke which just happen to be starting when I arrived. read more

I couldn't find the proper classification in the drop-down "Categories" list. It isn't "American" (it's in British Columbia, for Pete's sake). They serve burgers, fish, pasta, etc, and it's kind of like family restaurant meets pub. When reading restaurant reviews for Quesnel before we arrived, I didn't find anything that caught my eye. We decided on Begbie's because my brother and his family were staying at the Best Western Towers upstairs in the same building. While Begbie's was listed as a "formal" restaurant, it was closer to casual. The interior is decorated with dark wood and cut glass, and it is a warm, cozy place for a meal. The servers were attentive and served our party of 12 well. It didn't look like a restaurant to bring children to, but they had kids' meals that our children liked. My wife enjoyed her lasagna, and I had the Gold Rush Burger. The menu said the burger had two 1/3 pound patties, cheese, mushroom, and onions (I think), but it seemed much larger than that. I would have done better to have ordered a single-patty burger, but I don't usually come across restaurants that under-promise and over-deliver on their menu portions. In Japan the menu probably would have listed "Feeds a family of four." My brother and I tried draft beers. His pale ale didn't have the strong hoppy flavor one usually associates with pale ales, but he enjoyed it nonetheless. Overall, Begbie's delivers large portions of good food at a fair price in a warm atmosphere. It's hard to ask for much more when traveling, especially when you're staying at the Best Western Towers. We stopped in on our ride from Smithers to olympia and had an amazing dinner here. The portions are large. The food was delicious. I had the new to the menu seafood fettuccini and when I first saw it I thought not much seafood but once I tucked in there were small pieces of seafood deliciously flavored in every single bite. Thumbs up! to the Begbie Bar & Bistro. Our family recently rented 9 rooms on the 2nd floor so alot of kids and adults. We were constantly down to the Bistro, large groups of us and often did not call ahead. We were always received with a huge welcome, accommodated and were most satisfied with our many choices from the menu and so satisfied with the large portioned gourmet food. Totally disappointing. We took the kids to an almost empty restaurant for dinner, waited far too long for what we ordered and my dinner order wasn't what I ordered. Not willing to send it back and wait for my actual order, I ate it anyway and wasn't impressed. My drink (apple martini) was TERRIBLE - the first time I've ever ordered a drink in a restaurant and didn't finish it! It still gets 2 stars because the service was excellent. But definitely not worth the $70. read more
