This is an unsolicited review about Beech Hill firewood. We have been very impressed with this wood, all hardwood, mostly birch. It as seasoned, very dry and still had birchbark on it, so we have been able to start fires with no kindling. Very impressed, and will reorder next year. read more

Beech Hill might have great firewood but I'll never know. I ordered a cord online and received an email back giving me a delivery date of about 3 weeks out. I responded with the following email, "I'm interested in the wood but have a quick question. What should I expect to get as a reading on my moisture meter when the wood arrives? Instead of just answering my question they responded with "Our wholesale supplier is Colton Interprises in VT, go on the site for more info." So I did and seemed reassured that the wood would be good. But when I wrote back to Beech Hill to see if my order was still coming, they said no and gave me another date 6 weeks out. When I questioned why they said they don't "hold orders." I then asked where all the friendly great service is that I was reading about on Yelp. The next email from Beech Hill was "Thanks for your inquiry, we're not able to accommodate your order." So basically if you want wood from them, order the wood and then quietly move down the line and wait. Don't ask them about the quality of the wood because if you do it'll be NO WOOD FOR YOU! There aren't many options in the city for firewood deliveries, let alone ones who will go to the trouble of delivering a small order like a 1/4 cord, so when I saw Beech Hill offered deliveries at that size, I was grateful. They offer fully cured (air or kiln dried) wood that is safe to store indoors-- quality merch. I paid $225 for the 1/4 cord including delivery, but I can't judge the price, as I don't know how many other companies (if any) would offer delivery of a small quantity like 1/4 cord, let alone how the prices would compare. I can say that they were very patient in answering my various questions when I called them to place the order, and they deliver on weekends, which is great for my schedule. The day of the delivery, they missed the promised 9 am - 1 pm window, but the delivery driver called me a bit later to explain the delay and give me a new delivery window in the evening. He did show up on time for the second window and was helpful in working with me to drop the load in the exact spot I wanted. He also gave me a VERY generous extra portion of wood to make up for the delay-- so generous I actually had to give some of it away to a neighbor because I didn't have room for all of it. In summary, the delivery scheduling turned out to be a bit of a hassle, but otherwise I'm quite pleased. read more

Outstanding service from Beech Hill firewood. I called them on a Tuesday looking for a quote on delivery of 1/2 cord of kiln dried firewood. After a slight glitch in our initial communication they got back to me on Thursday and offered to deliver our wood the following Friday. They called the evening before delivery to remind us and to make sure our cars would be out of the garage, since we were having the wood delivered into our driveway. They showed up the next day right on time and delivered wood as promised. The real test of a firewood company is the quality of the wood you get. After a fairly disastrous experience last year with a dfferent supplier who promised well-seasoned wood but delivered wood so green it was months before it would burn properly, I invested in a moisture meter to test samples of this year's wood before accepting delivery. Kiln-dried wood should have a moisture content below 20% to burn clean and hot. Every piece I tested had a reading between 9 and 15%, which is good even for kiln-dried wood. Better still, the wood was clean and free of bark, dirt, and other useless "byproducts". This was a nice contrast to last year, when we sorted 2 full yard waste bags of dirt and unusable scraps out of our firewood delivery. What we got from Beech Hill was half of cord of excellent quality wood, mostly in the form of split logs. There were 4 or 5 cubic feel of smaller pieces that make excellent kindling. There was nothing we ended up throwing away, so I definitely feel like we got what we paid for. Their prices aren't the lowest in town, but the quality of their product is so good that Beech Hill will be our regular firewood supplier from now on. read more

I write as a confused and angry customer. We did not hear back right away from our usual supplier this year so we decided to try out a local company. Beech Hill had good reviews and a recommendation from a friend. What transpired is really weird. First our delivery got rescheduled late the night before it was due, not a problem although I had already had the neighbors clear the street of cars for the delivery. I got a confirmation text last night before our delivery which was scheduled today between 10am and 12 noon. A little after 12 when no one had come I texted to see if they were still coming. They said they were but were about an hour behind schedule. Again I said not a problem. They offered to throw in some extra kindling to make up for this and I said it was not a problem and we would be happy as long as we got a full cord. I explained that some other suppliers have tried to short us in the past but my husband always measures out the cord. After this I got a text cancelling our order. I asked if they were simply cancelling the delivery for the day or the entire order. The answer was the entire order. I got no explanation and can only imagine that they were not planning on delivering us a full cord. At $525 I don't understand why they would have a problem doing so. I am very upset as I wasted an entire morning waiting for a delivery that never came. I also missed a chance to place an order with our regular supplier who unfortunately got in touch with us after I had already placed an order with Beech Hill. I do not recommend using this company at all. We are going back to New Hampshire based Wood Boy who are honest and less expensive and only hope they still have some wood for us. read more
