Now on to my trainer Asad: have you ever woken up the morning after an intense workout and thought to yourself "my very existence is causing me pain right now" - but like in a really good way? Yeah that's me after every session with this guy. He kicks my butt in the best way possible. The great thing about him is that he makes working out fun as hell. There hasn't been a single session where we weren't cracking jokes and having a good time. But the BEST thing about him is that he really cares about your goals and he pushes you to be a better version of yourself. I once made the mistake of telling him that my program felt too easy. I have never regretted saying anything so much in my life, because the next day I came in and I was sweating buckets within the first 6 minutes. He's the guy you LOVE to hate. The one you can't wait to swear at under your breath as he's adding more weights to your trap bar, not to ruin your life (as you most likely will be thinking in that moment), but because he knows you can do better. The one that encourages you to push harder and be stronger. The one that makes you go for that last dreadful lunge even as your legs are collapsing under you, because he refuses to let you give up on yourself like that. He's not the trainer you need, he's the trainer you deserve. So he'll kick your ass. Because he knows you can take it. He's a vigilant mentor, a faithful spotter. A great trainer.

Yonge and St. Clair, Deer Park

I've had so many issues with Goodlife over the years that I don't know where to start. So I'll just…read moremention a couple of them. I've been a member since 2007 as they are two blocks from my home. The Bloor Park location has just advised that I no longer get towels under my membership. So I couldn't get one to shower after my session that day, or moving forward. Goodlife gave no written notification. No emailed advising of a change to membership terms. No advisement whatsoever. They claimed, "your office should have advised you.". My response was, "my membership is with Goodlife, not my office. And in their membership terms they actually state any changes will be sent via email within a certain time frame prior to that change taking place." So, firstly, they're not adhering to general legal business practices of advising of any changes to official Terms of an Agreement. Secondly, the way they handled it at gym level is abhorrent. I then had to go online to Corporate Memberships, where I changed my Membership to pay their new additional fee to get a towel so I may shower after my gym session. Done. Wrong! Today I got an email advising that I am no longer a Corporate Member (after just changing my Corporate Membership on their site two weeks ago - you have to sign in through your corporate email to change your Corporate Membership), and that they are going to increase my rates by almost double. No approval by me. No other notification. No discussion. That's it. Needless to say, with broken equipment, black mold in the showers, and a staff that's very unhappy, I'm not surprised they're trying to get more out of members. But they're losing members due to their poor management and lack of Customer Care. Secondly, two years ago I booked a trainer for three months. He canceled so many sessions and they were "banked". I received several erroneous emails stating I had missed a training session when none was booked. I wrote the trainer, spoke to the manager, and they all said, "the system doesn't work properly" and I would still get my sessions. After the three months I left to go overseas as planned, being gone for 6 months. However, Goodlife continued to charge me for training sessions - which I had NOT approved, for another 3 months! Apparently the trainer (who quit while I was away) filed me for 6 months versus 3! Upon my return I told them of the error, and they did nothing. PLUS, they told me I was not allowed to bank the sessions I PAID FOR and that was it. I appealed, talking with their Training Manager and Gym Manager numerous times. However, both of those Managers quit, being replaced several times since then. And now, I have paid well over $1,000 for something I did not receive - also against Canadian law. And no one at Goodlife is accountable. Overall, the Bloor Park location has seen well over 150 employees change over in the past several years. There's no customer loyalty, and no employee retention, and no accountability by Goodlife. Their employees all leave due to incredibly poor work environment and outrageous financial goals put upon them by senior management. Don't do it. Don't waste your time or money. They no longer care and are losing members left and right to gyms with better equipment, better trainers, and better environments.

Most staff are helpful, excellent cleaning and housekeeping…read more Few maintenance issues that need attention, e.g. burnt light in men's sauna for months, broken door handle on sauna for month, broken shower faucets for over month, broken elliptical machine for a year and half.

It's nine months later and Eric has helped me accomplish exactly what I was striving for and more. I'm down to 145 lbs, lost about 10% body fat, and my muscle tone/definition has exceeded even what I thought I could or would achieve. I started out doing one on one training with Eric 3 times a week for a few weeks, and have been on my own following his work out/dietary/supplement plans since then. Even though I haven't been doing the one on one sessions with him for months, he's always been an email away to answer any questions I have or give me advice if I need it. At the start, it was Eric's knowledge and motivation that put me on track. Now, it's the positive results I continue to see month after month that keep pushing in the direction I want to go. I still catch myself in the mirror from time to time and am taken aback by the progress I've been able to make. If you want someone to teach and focus you who knows what they're doing, who's genuinely passionate about what they're doing, and who will pass that on to you, give him a call.

I don't play Badminton, Racquetball or Tennis so it's clear that I'm not a member, but we came here for our work christmas dinner. The Club itself is fairly large, given that its smack dab in the middle of the city. However, as we went through a tour of the facilities and the building itself, its very clear that the building is old and disjointed and lacks proper flow from one area to another. The courts seemed to be in quite good condition though and you could tell this was an upscale type of club. The area where we had our lunch was quite nicely refinished and looked very crisp. We were seated in a room with a large round table for lunch. There was a set Christmas menu with choice for the main: squash and apple soup, a choice of Turkey Dinner, Salmon or Vegetarian and Christmas "pudding" for dessert. The food was quite good, I very much enjoyed the soup, a nice hearty appetizer for a cold day. The Turkey dinner was great, stuffing, vegetables, turkey, cranberry sauce and potatoes. The Christmas "pudding" was a bit odd, more like a cake with a small scoop of ice cream, but still good. Overall, it was a good experience for a staff luncheon but I dont' think I would recommend this venue for anything other than a relatively casual lunch (provided you know someone who's a member) as the facilities just don't seem to be able to handle much beyond that.

Though I've never been here to play Badminton...or any racquet related sport honestly, I have been…read morein their event spaces . The Badminton & Racquet Club is nothing special on the venue front. Yes, they can host weddings (or in the event I went to, a funeral - yay), but really in the city you could do much better. Their space is nice, through slightly dated, probably due to an older demographic who frequents the club (I assume!). It seems to me that they are going for a "classic" look, but the result is more of a "dated" look - it reminds me a lot of the Faculty Club at the University of Toronto - in fact I wouldn't be surprised if these clubs were somehow linked. In terms of food, they do make a mean cheese platter - at their finger sandwiches are definitely tasty. Also, the bartenders are heavy handed on the alcohol - which may have not been the most appropriate at the event I was attending - but you know. The bartenders themselves were quite friendly and one in particular makes quite a delicious caesar! The only part of the club that does not need an update, in my opinion, are the washrooms. I am a sucker for venue-branded one time use towels (I know, I'm a tree killer) and soaps and lotions, apparently. Overall as a venue, this place is ok, but nothing special. In a city of hundreds on venues, you could definitely do a lot better (but also a lot worse) than the Badminton & Racquet Club.
