I like being a part of BECU but I miss the days when being a part of a bank meant being able to go to a branch and conduct any and all business you needed with a teller or other bank officer. Now we're stuck with a bunch of branches that don't have tellers or the abilities to do all the things you might need to do at a branch. The only full function branch of my credit union is located inconveniently in South Everett. My closest manned branch is this one in Alderwood. I can't get quarters for laundry there and that really bugs me. If you have a laundry machine in your home this probably doesn't mean a hill of beans to you but it matters to me. read more

Wow. I just came to this page to refresh my memory on the hours of operation, but then saw all the bad reviews. I have to say...this is the opposite of the experience I've had. Granted, I've only been here a few times, but everybody has been nice and helpful. They do have a bit of a wait time, but it's only ever been a few minutes for me. Maybe it's the timing of my visits? Anyway, I've never tried to get a car loan, but frankly, with the way they keep increasing the available balance on my low interest BECU credit card, I could probably just charge one! And when the checks I ordered from a third party got lost in the mail, they immediately changed all my account numbers, and then sent me a box of free checks on top of that! Everybody I've dealt with at every location, including this one, has been super responsive, pleasant, knowledgeable...it's a nice change after my time with a bigger bank. I love this branch for it's close to my home and for it's two snapshot ATMs. I also had a very good experience working with the branch manager who assisted me with my car loan. She went over all the details and was extremely helpful and patient to a first time car buyer! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend anyone to BECU. read more

Never been to a BECU before and I won't again. I went in to deposit money into a friends account who lives in CA. You can't do that at the Lynnwood BECU! What? They sent me to another Sound Credit Union to make the deposit to BECU there. Now does that make any sense? Oh, by the way, this was after waiting for at least 15-20 minutes to be able to just ask someone if I could do it. I love my bank. They greet me when I walk in and they are happy to take my money for me. Credit Unions - I think not. They have a lot to learn about Customer Service. read more

They treat you like you are a criminal rather than a customer .They shut down our cards and online access and did not notify us. After over an hour on the phone with them saying they had never seen anything like this before, they said everything was back in working order. Come Sunday, checking out at the grocery - card is still not working. Nice! No way of contacting the bank. We have some sort of flag on our account that is there unjustly and they can't seem to clear it up on their end.They are literally keeping us from using our funds. How can this be ok?! Have to wait until a work day to take another hour to try and solve this "mistake". This same situation happened about 2 years ago too. The company we worked for wrote us bad checks because someone wrote them bad checks. We called BECU right away and explained the situation and deposited cash before anything would bounce. They froze our account anyway (without notifying us) and held our CASH. Every time I spoke to a representative I had to re-explain our situation all over again. They were accusatory and unhelpful. We have banked with them for over 15 years and manage our account responsibly. We are now moving to another bank - done! Basically, if something happens to you, like a stolen credit card, someone gains access to your account, someone writes you a bad check - this bank will shut everything down and treat you like the bad guy. They can not problem solve, they are not on their customer's side, even one that has been with them for 15+ years. read more

Went in to sign up for a checking and savings account today and had a fantastic experience with Britni. She answered all of my questions with ease, and had me up and running in less than ten minutes. Wait time was less than sixty seconds after checking in as a walk-in at the kiosk. Excellent customer service right from the get-go. I really look forward to banking with BECU! read more

I switched to BECU after a few misguided years with a big national bank. I've really only used this location for the ATMs - haven't needed loans and EVERYTHING else is available on their website, from opening accounts to applying for credit cards. The location is convenient, and I like the snapshot ATMs. Mostly, I love the local credit union set up vs. the profiteering big banks. I actually make a little money on my savings account - more in a month than the big bank paid me in a year. And my money stays local and safe. read more

Do not bother going into the Alderwood Mall branch, the incompetence is astounding and customer service is a foreign concept. I applied for a car loan and the experience was not a pleasant one for me at all. I have excellent credit and was approved conditionally for the loan pending a couple of verification items the bank needs. I went to Alderwood Mall branch a couple of days later with the requested items and there started my horrid experience. After reviewing my information the employee I met with informed me they could not approve my loan because my information does not match my credit report. She would not let me see the credit report but I listed all the credit information that should be on the report and she confirmed that is what she was seeing but said that was not enough to prove who I am. I called the credit company and the rep verified the information I gave matches with my credit report, the only thing she could come up with was that my first and middle name were switched but that should not have been a problem if everything else matches. I had not given the switched names a second thought because it had always been that way; no creditor had ever brought it up in my 30+ years of credit history. I asked the BECU employee if the problem was the flipped names and she acknowledge that was the issue. By this time I was really upset by the employee's attitude, her manner and some of the things she alluded to all but accused me of trying to commit fraud. At the end she informed me that for the bank to approve my loan I need to bring some proof that I am who I said I am. I returned the next day with my passport, social security card, a pay stub and an investment bank statement and met with another employee who after consulting with the employee I met the last time came back with a "no" on the credit approval. I was completely flabbergasted; I am being denied credit with a credit score of 760+ all because my first name shows as my middle name and vice versa. I could not help but think the denial was because I am a person of color, half way home I decided to go to another branch to see if this attitude was pervasive with the bank. I drove to the Millcreek branch; I met with this young man whose greeting immediately put you at ease. I handed him all my information and explained my issue and experience with the Alderwood branch. I could tell that he was surprised and upset by what I was relating. When I was done, he apologized and assured me that was not how the bank conducts its business. He then made a phone call and I answered a few questions and voila! My car loan was approved, just so. I am very glad to say that the Alderwood branch is not indicative of how the whole company operates, just a few ignorant employees. I will always visit the BECU Millcreek branch for all my banking needs. UPDATE The below update is for BECU the company. I am really impressed that the bank reached out to me a mere day after I posted my review of the Alderwood branch office. While my opinion about the Alderwood branch had not changed because I firmly believe the employee could have jolly well done exactly what the Millcreek employee had done, which was to ask me security questions to clear up the flipped name discrepancy and validate my identity, my opinion of the bank in general has climbed up another notch. The bank very obviously takes customer satisfaction very seriously, despite the fact I stated that my experience ended with a positive note at the Millcreek branch, I still got a phone call to ensure all is truly fine. I appreciate the courtesy and I plan to remain a customer but I am still partial to the Millcreek branch, it will always be my go to branch when I have a need to a consult banker. read more

WATCH OUT!!! If you open a joint account, the e-statements will only be visible by the PRIMARY ACCOUNT holder - even on a joint account. Now I have access to only some statements on my husband's login, and the other on my login. IF WE HAD BEEN TOLD... we would have set up the accounts differently. I can't believe they do not provide access to BOTH people on a joint account to the statements. The only answer I've been provided is that we can go close all the accounts (4 sets of checking/savings) and re-open them with a different primary account holder. I have NEVER had an account where only one person on a JOINT account has access to the statements. IF WE HAD BEEN TOLD... Additionally, one of the accounts wasn't set up for e-statements but for emailed statements. Thank you very much for nothing. When I asked "Customer Service" who I would speak to about filing a complaint about the service and info I received when I opened the account, I was told that she would put it on the "suggestion" list. I had to ARGUE to speak to someone. That person only reiterated the way it works, and apologized. That doesn't help me. I DO NOT RECOMMEND BECU, BUT I'M STUCK... AWFUL!!!!!!! read more
