I also decided to bring my 8 year old daughter (who currently attends A Plus Master Tutoring) because she needs to improve her reading comprehension and math skills. Initially I sat in a on a few tutoring sessions (as any concerned paying parent would lol) and I must say that Ms Denise and her A Plus Master Tutoring staff are very focused, knowledgeable, organized and intent on helping their students improve in their academics. They even offer tutoring courses for adults as well. Upon my observation, they conducted a few national skills tests (math, spelling, reading & comprehension) which indicates the students areas of strengths and weaknesses. Once the skills test is evaluated, they tailor a program for each individual student to improve in all areas noted. I also like their payment plans and cancellation policies. My daughter is 8 and she's only attended two (2 hour) sessions and I'm picking up subtle improvements while helping her with homework. It is obvious how much the teachers and staff care about the kids. All of the teachers (including the ones that aren't in their classroom) always address the kids by name and really seem to know each child. The whole environment is loving and welcoming and I feel very good dropping my boys off there everyday knowing they will be genuinely cared for. The curriculum is strong and my oldest was more than ready for kindergarten. He has learned a ton but most importantly that school is a fun and positive environment and he is excited to learn and play each day. The current director was amazing before Covid struck but she really went above and beyond throughout the shutdown. Regularly checking in on families and making personal trips to drop off treats for kids who had "quarantine birthdays". The teachers were also readily available and often checked in on us too. It's obviously part of the caring culture they have created. My boys were thrilled when they finally opened back up after the covid shutdown and they could return to school - even wearing masks all day. They just wanted to be back with their friends and the staff at Kensington made it such a positive transition even with all of the changes. Truly the only negative I will mention is that we are running out of room in our house for all of the art projects! The kids come home so excited to show us their creations and want to proudly display them throughout the house! I had a damaging experience with a teacher named Jacob Benke. Jacob was also a head basketball…read morecoach at Walther Christian Academy. His conduct was manipulative and harmful. I was a victim of his control tactics, which had a lasting emotional and psychological impact. As a student athlete, I started every game I played. I was eligible to play, but he would use my game participation as leverage for obedience. For instance, when I expressed things he disliked, he would prohibit me from going to games. He made decisions based on his ego rather than athletic or academic merit. The result was deliberate sabotage of both my development and the team's. Jacob is sadistic. I remember him mocking me about recruitment while interfering with my opportunities. He would sit me out during games that mattered. For a young athlete, this behavior was damaging and reckless. He uses psychological mind games, pressure, and humiliation when in power. Years later, he saw me in person and attempted to apologize. That moment confirms his awareness of the harm he causes. He often sings in the chapel and projects a likable image while being evil behind the scenes. The contrast between his presentation and conduct is conflicting. As of the date of this writing, December 22, 2025, he is still teaching at the school, which is disturbing. Currently, he is the chair of the school's Social Studies department. His egotistical behavior places students' mental health at risk. Based on my experience, he is unfit to hold power over children. Parents should be diligent to protect their children from his manipulation. There are stronger private school options for academics and athletics. You should continue searching for better schools. Your child's future depends on it.

When our child wanted to go back to public school for high school our district of residence (k-8) was adamant about not complying with direct guidance from the Illinois State board of education regarding eligibility of service. Brandon steped in, and finally, I felt less alone, more heard, more informed. It is a shame we need to hire someone to force public schools to provide for their students, but a blessing that people like Brandon exist.
