Had a great experience with Beavers Bend Fly Shop. The shop is right inside the park, so you can meet up, grab your gear, and be on the water within minutes, super convenient. We did two guided sessions over a long weekend and both guides Austin and Jet were solid. They provided all the gear we needed and it was good quality. Good value in my opinion. Austin was our guide on the second day and he was excellent, really patient, taught us a lot, and put us on fish. Caught a bunch of fish on day two including some nice rainbows. I booked a full day guided trip with Hirthel Chapman. A few days before the trip, Hirthel called me to see what my goals were. I initially told him that I'd wanted to catch and net bigger fish. He informed me that the larger fish are a challenge to catch because the water was warming up. So, I told him that I've never been good at fishing pocket water. We spend the day in many section of Spillway Creek, but most of the day was dedicated to pocket water upstream. Not only did Hirthel teach me how to read the water, I caught a lot of fish, and many of them were pretty large. Although I'd fished Beavers Bend many times, I had developed a lot of bad habits in my casting. Hiring a guide like Hirthel really speeds up the learning process. He is knowledgable, patient, and I highly recommend him. read more

The wife and I have a trip planned to go to Wyoming, Montana and other states in the area!! When it comes to fly fishing, we didn't have a clue, key word didn't. This is great place to stop for fly fishing. Very helpful and nice. You can get a license for fishing here too. The guided fly fishing trip is awesome and well worth every penny. They will rent you all gear you need for a small charge. Took my son and 9yr old daughter was an awesome time. Will be back for sure Book early they stay busy. read more

Wow! Before our trip to Broken Bow, I had been fly-fishing once, and my wife had never been. I booked Mo as our guide a few weeks in advance, and that was a GREAT choice! Mo made sure that we had a fun day on the water. Oh, and we caught plenty of fish. Actually, my wife caught more (and bigger!) fish than I did. Good work, Mo! We had four hours on the water, and Mo taught, guided, and reminded the whole time! She kept moving us up and down the river to find hot spots. She took plenty of pics to help us document our trip and AirDropped them to us when we got back to the shop. The fee we paid was well worth it! Mo gave us a great experience. So far one of the best guided fly fishing trips I have taken! The cost for the trip was very fair. I had an awesome guide, Mo Prater. She was very helpful, patient and helped me improve my casting and mending. She did a great job of rigging my line with just the right flies and put me on a ton of fish. Caught some really nice rainbow trout and missed many more because I didn't set the hook correctly. Great shop and friendly staff and owner. Don't be fooled, this is the REAL Beavers Bend Fly Shop and Professional Guide Service. They are the only fly shop in the Beavers Bend State Park. I will definitely be back. read more

All three were accomplished. I felt he enjoyed instructing and helping me improve. We stopped in after a hard day of fly fishing. The river arises from the lower bottom part of the dam, which helps keep the water cold for the trout that are stocked here at Beavers Bend. When we first walked into this fly shop, there was an older lady who set her book down and came over to attend to us. Right off the bat, I knew I liked her, hell, she knew more about fly fishing in her left pinkie toe than I had in my whole body, but she would not let you know it. She quizzed us and was observant, yet she was helpful beyond belief! She turned to my buddy, that is big into fly fishing and they chatted about some fishing hats, which he picked one out, (one that was washed and had a hole in it, but thats what he wanted.) She turned back to me, and I had been drooling over a bamboo fly rod, but was well out of my league! Hell, it was in a plastic framed see through box, but it was damn cool! I turned her attention to help me out a little bit. We started chatting about the fly selection. They looked like locally tied, and they were, heck, I felt like I was being romanced as an entomologist and she talked about in depth of the flies that were tied! Boy was I impressed, she knew the flies! I fell in love with this little fly shop! So down to earth, fun and carried all that a person would need! Our adventure for visiting was short lived, the rains were coming in and fast! We headed back to Dallas and to our luck we made it back ok, but avoided some flooding rains due to my buddies auto redirecting mapping. The sad thing was that the rains brought on last years Oklahoma's - North Texas flooding and wiped out the river due to the release of high dam water release. Even a sadder note the release of the dam water ripped out this cute little fly shop! It brings a tear to my eye that what a sad event happened! But I have heard they have relocated further up the hill and trying to restart their business! I wish this older couple the best of wishes and I hope to do business with them again! I'd like to start this review off and be clear that I've never fished trout in a river or stream before. I came into this situation only fly fishing redfish in the marsh. I came into the fly shop poking around for information on what I should use etc. The lady there was very helpful and informative about where to fish, how to fish, and what to fish with. Walked me through everything not once but 3 times that I came in. She cares about the river and the fish. That's rare! I will give this place my business every time Income to Beavers Bend and highly recommend you do too. I even met one of the guides in the shop and will be booking a trip with him next time I'm up here. This time I caught 8 nice Brown Trout and a bonus small mouth. Love this guide service!!! Every time they are personable, knowledgeable and patient. Last time we used Trey and Cody during the same trip because we had them work with our two kids, 13 & 14 year olds. They were patient and very good with our kids. They took time to show the underside of rocks from the river and teach our kids about the larva that was hatching, and pointed out that you can use this to find flys that resemble whatever is crawling around in the river. (they also knew the names of the larva!) Definitely recommend them. We always catch a lot and it's a joy because they are as excited as we are when the fish is on. Loved seeing them give my kids high fives when they landed their trouts! Big smiles in my kids' faces means a big smile on this mom's face too. read more

UPDATED: COMMOM COURTESY is something this guide missed out on learning! Yes the river is for everyone to fish and enjoy. But a guide who is there to teach others how and where to fish should be the leader in this lesson. Instead the fly fishing guide we encountered while fishing yesterday morning, came to the spot we had gotten up early to fish, he proceeded to walk right in front of us in the water where we were casting. Not only that, he also instructed his patrons to move right in front of us. This was a poor lesson that he just taught these new fishermen. Sure they paid him to fish this trip. I can assure you that my family has supported this park for over 30 years and never acted in such a selfish disrepectful way to other park patrons. I know they spent money Mister fly fishing guide but I can assure you that the 30 years of multiple cabin rentals, paid park activities, park resturant meals and store purchases not to mention gift shop purchases, my family has paid to fish here too. I feel a fly fishing guide working under the parks name should be aware that common courtesy is a necessity to teach right after he learns it himself! We used a fishing guide ourselves for the first time this trip and he was not a fly fishing guide but he was one of the most respectful of the other fishermen around us and guided us away from others so not to disturb their fishing. For obvious reasons we will continue to use him because he taught more than just fishing, he teaches how to respect others space on the river! I recommend going with Josh at Mountain Fork Outfitters over this guy any day. Update: I received a call from the head guide Peter that helped to resolve this issue. Peter was very nice and helpful. Hopefully the young gentleman will learn from this experience. read more
