Whenever I mention the Brazilian Waxing Co to my female friends, the reaction is always the same;…read morethey go white, cross their legs and say 'oooph!' It's pretty much a universal reaction amongst the girls, whilst men either stare blankly as if to say 'eh?' or nudge each other and go 'fnurr fnurr! Eh! Eh! Hehehehe!' like excited monkeys. And nine times out of ten, I'm not even talking about this place because of its waxing of down-there hair. You see, despite its fear-inducing name, Brazilian Waxing Co does more than just your ladygarden. I've been coming here since it opened a couple of years ago, for various treatments but one in particular. Eyebrow threading. If you haven't heard of it, or you're not sure what it is, you only need to know three things: one, it's quicker than plucking, and more precise than waxing; two, it lasts longer; and three, it really, really bloody hurts! But it is so worth it; when I'm done with my threading, I look in the mirror and the pain instantly fades; all I can think of is how great my eyebrows look. As any girl will tell you, a good eyebrow lifts the face. The threading treatments I have had here have always been top-notch, excellent value at £7 and I would recommend it as the best place for threading in Manchester. The only place that tops it is a salon I visit when I'm in London. So, if you need your eyebrows done, you know where to go, but what of the rest of their treatments? Well, I'm not gonna go into too much detail for the faint hearted amongst you, but the bikini waxing service is efficient and they try and make you as comfortable as possible. There's no need to be embarrassed, these girls have seen thousands of downstairses, and they'll see thousands more. What makes me slightly uncomfortable is the design of the shop and treatment rooms, which are basically enclosed booths. The walls don't reach all the way to the ceiling, and sound carries pretty well, so it's hard to relax completely. The basic bikini wax is £10, Brazilian £20, and they'll take it all off for £25 (in for a penny, in for a pound, as my wise old nan might say). In terms of what else they wax; pretty much whatever you want. Arms, legs, tummies, chins. And yes, boys, they do offer the back, sack and crack, at an eye-watering (you're not wrong there...) £50. They also do lash and brow tinting for both genders (in case your manscara isn't quite cutting it...) So if you've got unwanted hair, anywhere, get down to Brazilian Waxing Co.

It's fast approaching that time of the year where everything feels so hectic. Yes, it's Christmas…read more Well, soon it will be. So the next few weeks will mainly consist of writing lists, choosing gifts, spending money, eating rich food and drinking lots of wine.. (I know I'm not alone here?!) The hustle and bustle slowly intensifies with the crescendo on December 25th when the big man himself makes an appearance. Then. We. Can. Relax. It's difficult at Christmas to keep the stress at bay, with so many things to do before the big deadline day so make sure you take some time out to look after yourself. Whether it's between now and Christmas, or soon after when you begin to wind down, I have the perfect thing in mind for you. A little coach house in Chorlton is home to The Buddha Beauty Company, a tranquil hideaway that welcomes all. Down a small cobbled street on Beech Road this quaint salon owned and managed by Llewelyn Thomas brings your own mini experience of an exotic getaway in the Far East. That is where Llewelyn found most inspiration during his decade of world travel which he has used to stretch his skills far wider than you would expect from a small town salon. Leave your stresses and strains at the door The staff here have such a warm welcome and cater for everyone's needs. There is a 'open door policy' inviting everyone in, even if you don't have a treatment booked. You are more than welcome to sit in the soothing environment of the salon and choose from a list of speciality teas to sip your troubles away with nothing but the sound of pan pipes to ease your mind. Got the dog? No problem, fido is welcome too. With a water bowl, some treats, toys and pet friendly staff your canine buddy will leave The Buddha Beauty Company just as relaxed as you are. (I *love* this) All of the products used and sold here are completely homemade and organic. It's only when you see the enormity of the range that you will truly realise just how much work goes into each and every product. That's true love isn't it? The Buddha Beauty Company pride themselves in bring you great products at great prices with an aromatherapy full body massage only costing £45, and I can assure you that would be £45 well spent! It was time to face the inevitable. I chose this salon purely because it was the first salon that popped up when I searched for hairdressers in Chorlton online. First of all I had my hair washed by a lady (I think she said she was Persian). She even threw in a free head massage, which I started to enjoy after I had relaxed a little. Another lady cut my hair. She asked me the dreaded question. Where did I have my hair cut last? I debated telling the truth and saying that I'd given it a trim in my kitchen, but blamed my wonky barnet on another local salon. She wasn't too patronising (or too surprised) when I told her I knew nothing about hair. She gave me a couple of choices of styles to go for, and I told her to do whatever she thought would look best. I was dubious when she decided that would be long at the front and short at the back, but it turned out looking really good. Another lady dried my hair whilst the hair cutter wiped the condensation from the shop windows. The cutter then came back and spent a while putting the finishing touches to my do - using girly things that I don't understand like serum and straighteners. At £30 for a wash, cut and dry with very little patronising chit-chat, this is definitely a salon that I would consider going back to.

I am never going anywhere else!!! Great magazines, chat if you like, not if you don't. Hair always feels fab - I have never been anywhere where I feel so welcomed and where you can get great cuts/colours and really reasonable priices. Check them out!!!!

Where shall I start this? Hm. First things first, I suppose…read more This is yet another salon that I had been dying to visit for a long, long time. I finally called and booked an appointment following a consultation, and was treated nicely on the phone. At least they did that much right. I had decided to get a mani-pedi with shellac polish, and a hair cut, color and blowdry. I arrived at the salon per my appointment, and was greeted by the fanciful decor. On the surface, it looks like a beautiful split-level salon. The color scheme is a lovely, vibrant choice and the furniture is hip and matches perfectly. I thought I was in for the appointment of my life. Sadly, as I discovered after being at the salon a total of five (5!) hours, the beautiful decor is about the only thing the salon has going for it. I was constantly forced to wait, misfed information relayed through at least four employees. Within two weeks, my color had washed out completely and gone back to my original color. The salon seems largely disorganized and seems to fail at time-management of their employees. The stylists were in and out performing massages and the girl who met me at reception actually did my pedicure. While some of the staff were generally friendly and kept up good conversation, I felt like I was largely being ignored and wasting their time. Maybe a byproduct of being overworked? That said, the cut of my hair was alright and the manicure did look nice and lasted about a week, but overall I don't think it was worth the amount of money I paid for it (£120), especially when the color washed out so rapidly. I might go back for a manicure or pedicure but I will not be letting them touch my hair again.

In all my life i have never ever been to a place where i have been treated like an animal. Firstly when you walk in you are met with a very grumpy old lady on the reception desk and who thinks can speak to customers disrespectfully. I presume this lady is the boss and she has no communication with her staff. Her staff were literally swearing at each other over cleaning the place at the end of the day and she was just sat there not bothered about what the customers were seeing. I WAS SHOCKED. My five year old was there and she had o hear all that bad language, when we left she said mummy lets not come back here the women are scary. I advice you to not waste your money here.

I recently had my gels off which is £5 or free with any service, so I opted for a file and polish which cost £8 and lasted literally 10 days before it started to chip. Amazing! She doesn't judge me for my low pain threshold and gets the job done quickly and as pain free as possible. It's excellent value for money and a lovely salon too. They offer, manicures, pedicures, waxing, massages, facials and many other specialist treatments. I must add that this is one of the more expensive places to get these treatments in the area so if you've got some time and want to save yourself some pennies it certainly is worth looking around. I called on Friday to try and book an eyebrow appointment for the next day. I was told that the time slot I wanted was already booked, however they could fit me in a little bit later on. An hour later I received a voicemail message stating that the time slot I initially wanted had become available, so I called them back to amend my booking. I strolled in from the cold outside and was warmly welcomed, both by the staff and the atmosphere. The layout and design is very modern and chic. Definitely what you want to see when walking into a beauty salon. I was taken to one of the many private rooms and was told to relax on the massage bed whilst the wax was prepared. The bed must have had an electric blanket under the towels as it was extremely warm. This probably would have been more useful if I was unclothed, getting a massage, however with my warm winter jumper on it made me feel too hot. The gentle music and dimmed lighting helped ensure that I was in a relaxed mood and the lady who was treating me ensured she knew exactly what I wanted before starting. I was extremely happy with the outcome - I now have perfectly rounded and neat eyebrows! I'd recommend this salon or 'retreat' as they like to call it to any lady who is in need of a pampering or a relaxing massage.
