To be fair, Diptyque's candles are indeed luxurious as far a wax-filled votives go. They have a long burn-life. They generally smell pretty darn good. They are impeccably packaged. The prestige each one comes with is complimentary. And further, they've managed to concoct their scents using all natural oils without using anything synthetic - cheers to them especially for that. By far the most interesting innovation to come from the House of Diptyque of late is the candle: "Essence of John Galliano." Even though it smells like a smokestack (I guess this is *literally* his essence) and I wouldn't buy it, I still think it's pretty cool. I have to say that I don't like the way they've turned some of their bestselling candle fragrances into perfumes - some of them just don't work... far too sweet and not complex enough to wear on the skin. But the sales staff is pleasant and helpful... more than willing to dole out samples and let you sniff whatever you'd like.

Diptyque was founded in 1961 by three friends, Desmond Knox-Leet, Christiane Gautrot and Yves Coueslant, all with an artistic and interior decoration background. In 1963, continuing an old English tradition, the company launched a line of scented candles which was the beginning of a long success story. They are impeccably packaged, and have devised original scents using natural oils, low on synthetic, high on the eco-friendly dial. Sniff away to your heart's content!

I've been visiting Cowshed for a couple of years now, dropping in as a frequent traveler on…read morebusiness to London. I'm most familiar with Clarendon Cross but have also visited Primrose Hill and the Selfridges locations. Selfridges is a never return. It's the opposite of relaxing and has more of a busy coffeehouse atmosphere. Plus, the massage was awful. Inexperienced person dousing you with oil. What's the point? Primrose Hill has been my best experience. I went in for a facial and the gals at the front desk are great. I felt great about my service and went on to add mani/pedi and purchase products. The mani/pedi station with the headphones and classic TV on retro sets is a nice touch. Can't speak for massage there. Clarendon Cross was my favorite, at first. It's tucked away in Holland Park and I was able to walk to and from there and my hotel, major plus. Initially, I had several great massages here that helped me tremendously with jet lag. I also had a super helpful speedy facial and chilled in the mani/pedi station watching the episode where Monica asks Chandler to marry her in your favorite new york apartment full of candles (yes!). THEN, the decline. The reception attitude has grown lax in the customer service area. The woman who "welcomed" me today seemed like she preferred I hadn't shown up. My masseuse was yet another amateur. She pumped LOADS of oil all over me and simply has no idea how to touch bodies therapeutically or doesn't care. When I left, reception asked me how it was and I said "alright". She didn't inquire further about my lack of enthusiasm or say anything else at all to me. I waited in the lobby for a cab without being acknowledged or asked if I needed water or given after massage care tips. My car arrived and I left without a word to or from anyone. This was my third bad massage at the Cowsheds, collectively. I will not return. Their customer service has declined and they have lost good masseuses and replaced them with people who I can't imagine are even licensed for body work. Too too bad. I gave you the benefit of the doubt but this is a break up you earned and if your bad service continues, you will not last.

I've had plenty of massages in my life, but I can confidently say that I received the BEST massage…read moreever at Cowshed. After four months of carting around my newborn and being physically exhausted from lack of sleep, I was desperate for a bit of pampering. Fortunately, my mom-in-law had recently given me an online gift certificate to Cowshed! I booked a 45 minute massage with Ashley and entered Cowshed to find a clean, cozy and well decorated spa. The massage itself...no exaggeration, with my eyes closed, I felt like I was lounging on a beach and the waves were massaging me. Ashley's movements/massage were so fluid and there were no awkward pauses while she pumped more oil on her hands or changed positions around the table. I left regretting having not booked a 60 min massage! The spa is not super close to a tube station and it's certainly a bit pricey, however the price will absolutely not keep me from visiting again in the very near future!
