We started taNking our dog Sigmund- "Sig" to Spring Green Pet Resort when he was about 14 weeks,…read moreand joined the GSD training club. We found great people with shared interests in great training and love of the breed ! He is now 10, and Lesa and others have been constants in his boarding family. He is happy to go there and is entertained by his doggie friends. I cannot imagine a place more capable of caring for a fur family member. Additionally, as we recently added a pup to our family from Lesa, we know our selection with their knowledge and care will be a winning combination for the future of our GSD. Lesa, Hanna and others are as much a part of our "pack", as our pet, because of the many years of consistent good care.

Once there, they receive lots of TLC, eat premium pet food, and are socialized. Their application process is stringent; it's not like the rescues you see at Pet Smart. The owner, Margaret, is rude and judgmental. My family and I recently lost our bichon of 14 years…read morewho had special needs (epilepsy, enlarged heart, hypothyroidism). After filling out a 6 page application for safe haven (which was unnecessarily detailed), Margaret encouraged us to get two dogs instead of one, which we denied since my blind mother would stay home with the dog all day (as she had done with our previous dog). Margaret then rudely told us she did not approve of us having one dog and inquired about sleeping arrangements. We told her that our last dog slept in bed with one of the family members each night because of his special needs, but were looking to have this dog sleep in its own room (which the dog would literally have his own small room in our house as our last dog did). She sent a very harsh email detailing how we were "cruel" and then refused to adopt a dog to us. I believe this woman's control issues is at the cost of her dogs' happiness and well-being. This is a rescue mission for dogs, yet the woman won't allow her dogs to be rescued. We were honest on the application and in emails, and we would have made a wonderful family for one of the dogs; however, Margaret deterred that. It's very sad and extremely unprofessional, in my opinion.

I would not recommend Spring Green Animal Hospital based on my experience…read more I brought my cat in twice because he was clearly not feeling well, and after spending nearly $800, I left with no answers and no improvement in his condition. The veterinarian seemed quick to jump to worst-case conclusions rather than exploring reasonable treatment options first. I was told that my cat's ear hematoma was a major concern and that surgical removal of part of his ear might be necessary. I was also encouraged to pursue hundreds of dollars in additional testing because the doctor was unsure what was causing his symptoms. Multiple times, I asked whether a trial course of antibiotics might be worth considering, and multiple times I was told it would not help. Feeling frustrated, I sought a second opinion from another veterinarian. Their assessment was completely different. They immediately told me the ear was not the primary concern, drew blood for testing, and started my cat on antibiotics and steroids while awaiting results. Within a short time, he was back to acting like his normal, happy self. What bothered me most was not just the cost, but the feeling that my concerns and questions were being dismissed. I felt rushed through appointments and as though asking questions about my cat's health was an inconvenience. To make matters worse, my parent was hung up on while trying to follow up about details from the appointment. I understand that veterinary medicine is not always straightforward and that doctors cannot guarantee outcomes. However, I expect thoughtful care, open communication, and a willingness to consider reasonable treatment options. That was not my experience here, so I would absolutely not recommend taking your pet here unless you would like to spend a bunch of money and have nothing to show for it.

Neglected cats They…read morehave a tiny, overcrowded room with tons of cats. The litter boxes were filthy and weren't even filled with enough clean litter to begin with. One cat that I was petting had several mats, with one particularly large one on its back (this can cause skin sores, bleeding, and infection). It's nice that they take them in, but you do actually have to take care of them if you do that. I politely mentioned to the woman at the desk that the cat was matted, and she said "Yeah, that happens," and stared back at me. I asked if she cuts them off. She said yes, when she has someone to help her. I asked if she needed help, and she said no, she would do it later. I then mentioned that the litter boxes were low, and she said, "Well, I have a routine that I keep up with." Clearly, it's neither a routine nor kept up with, since the room is like that every time I go in, even though this store is never busy. This is just the first time I've complained. She then snottily asked me if I had made the donation while I was in there ("since you want to complain so much" being the implication). I replied that I had. It's worth mentioning that no other customers were in the store, as usual, and there were two employees chatting at the desk while I was browsing and visiting the cats, so they definitely had time to check on the cats. Also, the litter boxes should have been filled more to begin with. I have volunteered at and visited various animal shelters and the animals are always in better conditions than this. The same woman was also very unhelpful years ago when I wanted to adopt a cat from there and I ended up getting my cats from a different rescue. The store is also disorganized, overpriced, and poorly lit. It's no wonder that not one, but two other pet stores have opened up in this very small town and attract far more customers. Please treat those cats right!
