I was very specific in that direct debit payments were not to be swept from my bank account until the first day of each month and no earlier, as this would cause me difficulty in relation to when our salaries are paid into my account and funds being collected. You subsequently swept my account early each month for three months. I rang your branch on two separate occasions and spoke with two of your salesmen and on a third occasion when I spoke with the Branch Manager. I repeatedly rang your accounts office in Hemel Hempstead and endeavoured to speak to the individual who is allegedly responsible for arranging direct debit collections, and was given a number of excuses as to why he was not available to speak to me. I was rudely informed that he was out of the office, he was at lunch, he works flexi time and no-one knows when he will be in. I left repeated messages asking that the direct debit date be changed; stating that if that wasn't going to be done, that I would cancel the direct debit. On each occasion I was assured that "he" would return my call. "He" never bothered to contact me. "He" never bothered to change the date that you swept my bank account. I again spoke with your Branch Manager and was very clear in that if you again swept my account early, I would cancel the direct debit. Additionally that you had sent me erroneous paperwork stating that I was to take a Fiat I do not own to a registered Skoda dealer for all repairs. I was very clear that I am dissatisfied with the service extended by your company. You again swept my account early. I again spoke with your Branch Manager whose excuse was that if the first of the month fell over the week end you would take the money early. You took money from my account again today, proving this statement to be untrue. Three months down the line and repeated instructions later, in October 2011 when I spoke with your branch manager I was very clear when I stated that the Direct Debit was to be cancelled with immediate effect and that I require a full refund of all monies paid to you in respect of anticipated service charges. I confirmed this statement in writing and cancelled the direct debit in your favour in October 2011 with my Bank. Despite the foregoing you have continued to sweep my account in November 2011, December 2011 and again today on 31 January 2012 ... on my instruction my Bank has recalled the funds that you have removed from my account each month over the past three months as there is no direct debit in place in favour of your company. Please be aware I REQUIRE AN IMMEDIATE AND FULL REFUND FROM YOUR COMPANY IN RESPECT OF ALL MONIES TAKEN FROM MY BANK ACCOUNT BY YOURSELVES. As I had time to kill and wanted to see the new Mexican built A Class Saloon thought would stop at JR Tagger Mercedes which I recall visiting with a friend as a kid. Except JR Tagger was now apartments and pretty worn looking ones as though the showroom was long demolished. Went under the bridge and a shiny new showroom was visible less than a mile away from where I expected it to be. I asked the parking attendant and he said the showroom was a year old, he was unaware it used to be before the bridge he just indicated that there was an old design Mercedes showroom on this site and a year ago this one was built. How the years fly! The welcome was average and the receptionist fleece said Mercedes Colindale even though we were in Watford. No A Class Saloon was available to view and neither was a CLA, the beverage makers in the corner were of very average quality and not a premium coffee or with a barista like some showrooms. So I'm giving this site three stars but ideally at this stage it would be 2.5 stars if I could.

When I explained to the dealer I wanted a refund, he stated he "was not obligated" to provide a refund but would, 'on my behalf' as a 'goodwill' gesture, speak with his garage to see if they can fit me in for a repair as the car was covered under the 3 month warranty - at this point, accepting no responsibility it was infact his duty to repair the vehicle under my statutory rights. The dealership did not state the 3 month warranty offer was capped at £300, and I would advise you to clarify this when purchasing a vehicle. The warranty company then refused to pay for the repair as it was above the capped limit. I stated to the dealer it was their responsibility to repair the vehicle! I left the car with the dealer for three weeks over Christmas, and when I returned, the car was handed back to me with a number of further faults. I explained to the dealer I was not happy, I had given him a chance to repair the vehicle (after a tough battle to even get to that point) and that I wanted a refund as the car was unfit for purpose. The dealer stated the car was 'perfect' and that there were no further faults. I paid for a diagnostics by an independent garage to prove to him this was not the case and that the further faults where due to his and his garage's faulty workmanship. The dealer refuses to acknowledge the faults or accept responsibility. The dealer stated I would not receive a refund "not today, not in a hundred years"... a very different attitude from when I wanted to buy the car and they were very nice. This dealership, quite simply, refuses to acknowledge the sales of goods act and consumer rights. I am now proceeding with a court case to get a refund. I would warn customers to be very careful when buying a vehicle from this dealership. I bought the car nine months ago and its been the most stressful nine months of my life, with more yet to come.

After months of trying to resolve it, the owner offered to have his 'contractors' repair the faulty engine, however, the car was returned in an even worse condition: the engine having multiple misfires. He refused to refund us, telling me that I would never get my money back. He went so far as to beg me to take him to court. We did and we won. Watford Car Sales was found to be in breach of contract as well as The Sale of Goods Act (1979). We finally received our money back, but only after a tremendously tearful nightmare and 13 month struggle. Everything you fear of a second hand car dealer.
