We had an upper level room and the view was amazing. Here's the deal with these older hotel in Montauk. There is no need for them to update anything. They're on prime real estate and in demand. Why upgrade the furniture or bedding? My room looked the same as it did in the 80s, the same with the lumpy mattress. And there was a huge gap between the headboard and the lumpy mattress. My pillow kept slipping and sliding, it was an annoying sleep. 5 stars? Heck no. But then again, when you wake up and walk across the street to one of the best beaches in the world, there is nothing better than staying at the Beachcomber Resort. Our room was very large, the bathrooms were contemporary and clean. There is a pool as well if you don't feel like swimming in the ocean. I rate the Beachcomber Resort an average of 3 stars. What most people do not know is that almost every unit at the Beachcomber is an independently owned condo. The owners of the condo unit do the decorating and furniture- a management organization runs the rentals, housekeeping and repairs at the condo owners expense. Booked the 2 bedroom/2 bath panoramic view room Thurs-Sat in late August. The location of the resort in on Old Montauk Highway - about a 10-15 walk to town where all the shops and restaurants are located. The beach is across the street (3-4 minute walk). Location is good for a place not right ON the beach (I think the only resort on the beach is Gurney's Resort which is 5-10 minute walk from here in opposite direction from town). Check-in and check-out was easy (mobile). House-keeping only before you arrive and after you leave but you can order sheets/supplies while there for pickup from the office. Prices are steep (as I imagine most places in Hamptons/Montauk during the summer will be). Options were limited at time of booking and we are a party of 5. This room (room 501, located separate from the main buildings) cost about $800/night. I would probably would have paid similar for a room at Gurney's if booked early enough. Although labelled as room with panoramic views, you don't get a stellar view. You do get a large deck both in front and back where you can lounge or eat your meals - but hardly a great view of anything. The rooms are spacious and clean. Couch in living room on the small side. The bedrooms are decent sizes (Queen in master, 2 twins in Room 2). The mattresses are uncomfortable - be warned. The air conditioner units make loud noises - but I guess they do their job in keeping the place clean. The kitchen is clean with fridge, stove and microwave. I recommend bringing snacks/bottled water and at least groceries for breakfast as prices are high in the area. Restaurants (especially ones offering breakfast) are decent (at best) and usually involve long lines. Beach is lovely - just remember to bring your umbrella, chairs and beach towels because you are on your own in this regard (towels are offered for use at the pool). During our stay the sauna and gym were closed due to COVID19. Poolside had plenty of chairs and was not overly crowded when we visited (people were wearing masks and people kept their distance even in pool/poolside). Overall, nice place to stay. However, for the price paid probably may want to splurge a little more and get a room at Gurney's, especially if you don't anticipate visiting very often and you want to maximize beach time. read more

The nicest hotel I've stayed at in Montauk! Every room has a private balcony with a beautiful view of the ocean and a lounge chair to enjoy it from. The rooms were immaculate: no musty, beach smell like some of the older motels in town. Everything was brand new- the floors, the furniture, the granite counters in kitchenette (SUCH a great room amenity!). Great location too- only a 15 Minute walk into town, and private access to the beach is right across the street! I booked through hotels tonight and there was a slight issue with payment at check-in between the resort and website, but the young woman at the front desk was very helpful with checking us in as quickly as possible and she handled hotels tonight afterward- no hassle for me! We only stayed one night this time, but we can't wait to come back for a longer stay! read more

I stayed here for a girls weekend trip to Montauk, and it was exactly what we were looking for. We didn't want to spend too much money, since we figured we wouldn't be spending that much time in the room anyway, and this was definitely reasonably priced. We got an upper studio, which was perfect for the 4 of us. There was a queen size bed and sofabed, a little kitchen, a table inside and a table and lounge chair outside on our little balcony that looked out to the beach across the street. The location was good, it was close to town. We had a car, but it was also walking distance. It's also really easy to call a cab and they come in 5-10 mins. The beach was right acoss the street. It was pretty quiet on the beach, but we just walked towards town along the water and found spots with more people, and bars too. So it was perfect! They have a pool and tennis court which we didn't make use of, but nice to know we had the option. We also requested a later check out about an hour before we were supposed to be out of there, and they were accomondating! Overall I thought it was a good place to stay. It wasn't too expensive, the location was good, and there was plenty of room for 4 people. I would definitely consider staying again. read more

It was a last minute decision to go away in Montauk and was glad they have a room available during high season. It was our first time staying here and just like the others who gave a great reviews I'm going to be a repeat customer based in the following: LOCATION: It's off-the-beaten path yet just a short 15 mins walk to town. Beach access is just across the road. Short walk, too PRICE: well, its the Hampton and that is reasonable, besides, No Resort Fee. Pool, Towel Tennis Court are all free of charge. Clean and well maintained. Water is warm. We hangout most of the time in the pool area. ROOM: We got a studio in the lower floor and still got a beachfront view. Fully equipped kitchen so you can cook if you dont want to eat out. Bathroom is spotless with towels and toiletries. However, you have to bring your own "Beach towel" as they do not allow their towels to leave the resort. PARKING is FREE-- Free Wifi- Too I'll be back on the next season. Loved staying at this place! We stayed here on a girls trip and found it clean and a fairly central location considering Montauk isn't a very walkable area if you have lots of places you want to see. Should be called a motel not resort. Surly front desk staff handed over several sheets of rules to sign at check-in. "Private Beach" is a public beach you need to cross the road to get to. No amenities offered for this beach. When I asked about beach chairs or umbrellas I was told to buy them in town. No WiFi password provided at check-in. When I called and asked for it - the internet didn't work. For $400 per night I expect more than Motel6 style service and lodgings. read more

Worst hotel in montauk the rooms were dirty flies all over the place and the worst part of it all is the housekeeping employe stole my Gucci slides and didn't admit to it when my sister and cousins said it was him we called the cops and asked for surveillance and the manger said the cameras don't work which is actual bs and it's ironic because and older lady told me they robbed her Gucci sunglasses so if you're looking for a hotel to stay at and it's this one don't bring nothing designer especially Gucci b/c it will be the last time you will see it and if the blonde women is there at the front desk is rude to you don't feel bad b/c she was rude to everyone this place is horrible .!!!! read more

I didn't have to change or cancel my reservation so I don't have any negative feedback on customer service. We had an amazing stay here. Great location, spacious for our family of five (one kid slept on floor in a sleeping bag). Kitchen was fantastic to help us save money on pricy Montauk restaurants. We were on the first floor and yeah there was some noise but I didn't need earplugs to sleep. We loved relaxing for hours on our covered deck, my kids enjoyed the heated pool. We didn't bring tennis racquets but it's nice to know there are courts. Super easy walk to the beach, we could pop back up for the restroom or snacks. Room was pristine and cleaning staff was excellent. We will be back! read more

Disappointed is an understatement. We arrived early Friday for a two night stay at the Beach Comber. My boyfriend and I were hoping that we could check in early if the hotel wasn't completely booked. The hotel was not completely booked and it looked rather slow. We walked in the office to check in and were greeted by cold stares and the woman behind the counter "Can I help you?". With an attitude. I think the proper greeting when checking into a hotel you are spending about 350 a night on should be "Welcome to the Beach Comber, how can I help you?". I had a feeling the greeting was going to be indicative of the overall stay. I wasn't wrong. We prepaid for the room so when my boyfriend was asked "are you over 25?" he was a bit confused. Yes, he is over 25 but no one asked him this when he gave them our reservation and credit card. Had we not been over 25 would we have been denied a vacation planned months ago? This seems like poor communication on their end to say the least. We then asked if we could check in early and were told that no, the room was not ready. We found this hard to believe as it looked DEAD at the hotel but we took their word for it and went to the beach. We were also told they'd call us if the room was ready early, we didn't receive a phone call and left the beach at 4pm to check in. The room. Room 211. Wow. We thought we stepped back into the late 1970's early 80's. I took pictures to prove it! The room itself might not have been bad if it had been updated in the last 10 years. The first thing we noticed was the smell. It smelled like a musky, damp basement filled with wet puppies. It was fairly obvious that no one had stayed in the room before us (which means they could have let us check in early) and I'd be surprised if anyone stayed in the room all season! The smell was obviously because the place hadn't been aired out in a long time. The towels had a funky moldy smell and we couldn't use them. Luckily we had a couple of extra beach towels to use. The Couch looked and felt like a doctor's office waiting room couch. It grossed me out so much I refused to sit on it with out a blanket over it. ( A blanket we brought from home) I called for a blow dryer. I was a bit confused why there was no blow dryer in the room to start with but regardless, I called. They promised to bring me one. After an hour or so of waiting we finally gave up. We were too hungry and tired to wait any longer or call and complain. Saturday I called again for the blow dryer. This time it was raining. I explained to them that I had called the night before and never received it and the woman asked "Can you come pick it up?" No I can't. It is raining, I had already asked the night before and we are paying 700 dollars for the weekend to stay there! I shouldn't even have to ASK for a blow dryer. A nice older man brought me the blow dryer fairly quickly this time. We checked out Sunday at 11 am. Another thing I have a problem with. I think it is a bit tacky and cheap to have check out before noon, but it is what it is. I will say normally I'd call and complain about things like the overall condition of the room, the smelly towels, etc but after our reception I didn't have the energy. We just felt we already paid for it, that we'd make the best of it and write some bad reviews when we got back. It just didn't' seem worth our energy for a two night stay that we'd mostly spend at the beach. The best thing we can do is write this review, never recommend this place to friends and laugh about the 1978 pink sculpture. read more

I went there with my kids and I have to say it was the best vacation we've ever had. The rooms were clean and stocked with everything we needed. The beach access alone was worth it all. Also, everyone is so friendly. From the staff to the loyal regulars everyone here was amazing. I was told there are whales that swim by and to bring binoculars but sadly we didn't see any on our trip. The sunsets are amazing also. It was like a real and amazing escape from reality. Three words: Upper...Level...Room! Nice place, decent sized rooms, clean, great location. BUT...so help you if you get a first floor room. Especially if the people who get the room above you are typical American tourists (obese, obnoxious, selfish, mindless) who trounce around their room until 2 AM then start right again at 6 AM. I seriously felt like they were moving bags of portland cement and slamming them down at each end of the room all night. Surprised that when this place was built, the builders didn't realize there would be people on the first floor and perhaps used 2 x 3's for the floor joists? So, if you happen to get a second floor room, you'll be extremely happy with your quiet stay, the decently sized kitchen with full sized appliances, and the expansive views of the ocean. As well as a quick walk, bike ride, or drive to town a quarter mile away. read more

Overall a nice place. Each room is different as they are peoples condos. Location is good, and the rooms are clean. The pool was a little scuzzy but I think this was more from the number of people then lack of cleaning, was overall a nice pool area. My only issue is that they have numerous signs and warnings about quiet hours that will be strictly enforced until 9am, which is great, but the cleaning staff is out at 8am shouting to each other disturbing anyone that might have had the slider door opened. This wouldn't have bothered me nearly as much if they were shouting for work purposes but when I went to look out side it was the pool maintenance guy shouting to a group of three maids who he was flirting with. We stayed in a beautifully renovated room in the front building on the top floor(which i recommend). The kitchenette was handy and served us well. The bed was a queen and very comfortable. The balcony was good for sitting in the evening but hot in the daytime. The sun comes up early and the room is facing the ocean so... Bring an eyeshade if you are a light sleeper. We had easy access to the uncrowned beach. During the week, it was very uncrowned. The pool is beautiful with many lounges and umbrellas. Sitting on Old Montauk Highway the hotel has easy access to the town without the noise. We had a great week! read more

Just spent 2 nights at this resort. Location was fantastic, across the street from the beach and close to town. Our room was clean, comfortable and had a gorgeous view of the ocean which you could hear when the sliding doors were open. Pool area was very nice with plenty of lounges and umbrellas. Just know that we were not able to check into our room until 4 pm most likely due to the extensive cleaning they did between guests. We look forward to visiting again soon! read more

I was there at the Beachcomber Resort this past weekend . The front desk staff was fantastic, we arrrived late and we received a phone call letting us know how to acess our room . Our room was wonderful ,clean everything you could possible need. Gretchen from the front desk was so very nice helping us find places to go and restaurants to dine at and although it was a stormy weekend we could not have done better . Cant wait to go back ! I've been coming to montauk my entire life. We've stay at pretty much every dune resorts location and several times sought to purchase an investment property. At The Beachcomber I have twice been a victim of burglary. Once diamond studs were taken off the dresser. This time my husband's wallet credit cards and cash were stolen from our room. Police and detectives came. And started an investigation which couldn't have been missed. The blonde "manager" was rude and extremely unprofessional. She didn't care at all and said we must have left the door open. Never called us to see how things panned out or an apology. Didn't try to comp us in any way. And to add to it the room was full of ants! I would never recommend this place to anyone. read more

I am so 50/50 with my stay here at the beachcomber resort. I would give it five stars for the resort itself! The rooms are gorgeous! The resort goes above and beyond making the tiny apartment so homey and personable. It really is an amazing space for what you are paying for, your money is going a long way. BUTwhere this resort loses stars for me... is the staff. The two ladies at the front desk were rude, not accommodating at all an spoke to me like I was a child. Every time I asked a question the lady at the front kept cutting me off and typing on the computer, she wouldn't even make eye contact with me and when she did, I got many eye rolls and tension like I was bothering her. I'm paying good money to stay at this resort, so asking for a request for my check in or for my room or what....for my linens that I asked for the afternoon before, I don't think I should get an attitude or a half ass answer just to shut me up. we picked this resort for the location and for everything they had to offer, but To find out the day of check in that the pool isn't even open yet even though it doesn't say that its closed on their website and will open after Memorial Day, I was VERY disappointed. So at this point I just paid for a bed. I would want to stay here again in the future but the staffing is poor and they need to update their website. read more

My family stayed at the Beachcomber July 2020 and my brother in law and sister's who have been staying at the Beachcomber for the past 15 years room was robbed, all cash and credit cards taken. Management did nothing to help, was very rude, uncooperative and unconcerned as if this is a normal occurrence. Funny, no forced entry, makes you think. If you value your belongings don't stay here, and if for some reason you do stay here do not leave anything in your room it will for sure be stolen. read more

Due to an emergency in the family I had to cancel my reservation with this resort. I booked through hotels.com just 6 days before the event we had planned to attend. When we found at the last minute we could not attend we were told that we needed to give 30 days notice for a refund. Since we did not book 30 days in advance I called the resort and explained the situation. The woman on the other end of the phone was unsympathetic and kept repeating herself about the 30 day cancellation. Since I was not getting though to her I called my credit card company, Capital One and sent documentation along with an explanation to dispute the charges. They attempted to dispute the charge but the Beachcomber would not take our emergency into consideration. They just sent paperwork once again reiterating their 30 day cancellation policy. Again my credit card company sent my paperwork showing I only booked the room 6 days in advance but to no avail. I would think that in such situations when there is an emergency a resort such as this one, would take the situation into consideration. Is it really going to hurt them to loose $236.00? They could have even kept some of the money and given me a fair amount as a refund. If they had done this I would have definitely booked with them again at some point, but now I will not even consider it. There are many hotels in Montauk that I have stayed in and the people have always been accommodating and pleasant to deal with. Things happen in life that are sometimes out of our control. It appears that the Beachcomber doesn't understand this or just doesn't care. I have read the reviews and understand that people have had good experiences, but just know if you ever have an emergency and have to cancel at the last minute, you will not get anywhere with this resort. read more

My parents and I stayed here last October when I ran the Hamptons Marathon. It was one of the very few places that still had rooms available and the price was good, given that it was off season. The room was old and kitschy, but still cute in a nostalgic way. It had a queen-sized bed and pull-out couch, TV with cable (including HBO) and kitchenette. The kitchenette was perfect for making pasta the night before my race. The pull-out coach was semi uncomfortable, but I slept alright the first night and ran 26 miles the next morning, so it couldn't have been too bad, right? Needless to say, I slept like a baby the second night. I had to take a bath after the race to cool down my legs and the tub was thankfully very clean. We had a balcony overlooking the water, which was beautiful, especially at dusk. The beach was right across the street looked like it would have been great in warm weather. Overall, it's not a 5 star hotel by any means, but it does the job for a weekend away and it's walking distance to downtown. read more

The front staff at the office were really nice, really quick and really efficient. The room was beyond clean and beautifully furnished . When we flagged the error to them, Liz and Barbara's response was that they made a mistake and the new price would be $500 more - no apologies for wasting our time or for their error. ON July 25 I reserved a room through expedia.com for Labor Day Weekend. AFTER the room was reserved and paid a very vague cancellation policy appeared. TEN seconds later I contacted Expedia to cancel the room. They tried to cancel the room but were unable to get in touch with the hotel. The next day Expedia got in touch with the hotel and was told they would cancel the reservation BUT I would be charged a 10% cancellation fee. Again...this cancellation policy did not show up until AFTER I BOOKED THE HOTEL. I decided to call the hotel on my own to explain the situation wit them. I was greeted by a rude robot who obviously did not take customer service 1.1 in her training. I was told there was nothing she could do. Did not try to help me in any way. Obviously she was a bit clueless since the reservation was put on a credit card and I have been an excellent customer to Citibank for over 20 yrs so one can only guess who would win such a dispute. I warned her that if she forced my hand I would make sure to post my experience all over the internet as well as tell every person I know about this experience. A few days later I get an email from Expedia that the reservation had not been cancelled. I called them and sat on the phone while they called the hotel. The representative from Expedia came back and said..and I quote "I have good news for you, your reservation has been cancelled and they agreed to refund the FULL amount so there would be no cancellation fee. Being that the issue was supposedly resolved, I removed the review detailing my experience from all the websites. I ended up heading to Montauk this weekend and staying at the Montauk Blue Hotel which by the way was excellent and I plan to write a VERY positive review about my experience with them. While I was away I happened to notice on my Expedia account that the reservation was showing as still active. I called Expedia who in turn called the hotel and was told again they refunded the money but kept 10%..roughly $127. The Beachcomber actually denied that they agreed to issue a full refund. Lets just say I travel throughout this country and internationally and have NEVER experienced anything like this. I just don't understand why they needed to steal $127 from an innocent consumer who was clearly NOT at fault here. In the end I will get my money back but they will suffer the consequences of their thievery. Karma is a bitch! read more
