First, they have no branches or ATM's available in my area. 1 1/2 hours away. So there is no real customer service. My account got hacked and $3000 was stolen. Despite proof that I did not make these online gambling sites purchases, they refuse to refund me. It was all I have left in my account as I am unemployed. The crystal lake branch gives the worst customer service. The bank manager steps in to say things. First hand have heard her say to a member in the lobby that she couldn't keep coming into the bank to have things explained. Poor older lady didn't understand the computer. Description of complaint: June 28,2024 - received an MCR Credit from BCU. Inquired about the credit. I was Told it was a loan adjustment and now, Sept 27, 2024 BCU has made my account negative saying I need to repay the amount because they made an error & I used the funds (8 months later?) So I recently made a $502 credit card payment to PAY OFF MY BCU Credit card & they took the payment away and placed it in the savings account to offset some of the negative balance due to their mismanagement Idiots!!! read more

This was the worst experience of a bank ever. I've only had issues witht them. I was talking with them and each time I was told it was incorrect information each Representative told me. The only reason I used them was due to me working at target once I left the service was horrible take money whenever wanted to what account and let recurring charges continue to happen and with my overdraft at 1500.00 they let it got that high by also adding over draft charges each time. Wow no control over my accounts what so ever!! Plus money was deposited into my checking but they to9k my entire check towards my loan. Be very careful if you choose to bank at The Gurnee branch. They told me that I would get my paycheck 2 days early, and that's a lie. They approved us for credit cards, but we never received them. Horrible, horrible banking experience!! They absolutely DO NOT stand behind or support their members much less value you. I was missing $600 out of my account and they flatly refused to help. Of course it took them a few days to say "sorry for the inconvenience" but we can't help you. Seriously?? That means they wouldn't help me not can't. They made me so mad today with their complete indifference that I shredded my debit card, changed my direct deposit to my other bank, transferred my $$ to a payment app (quicker than bank transfer), deleted my apps and set their emails to go into spam. Unless you like abusive uncaring people I'd keep looking for a much much better financial institution. You can't even contact corporate. They're so high in their Ivory tower they can't even see the little people.... You know the members that they claim to care about. That's truly false advertising!! read more

My mother's BCU Visa card was stolen after she passed away. Two fraudulent charges were attempted. The fraud department was notified the day the charges were made. The charges were not reversed. Three months and multiple phone calls later I was notified the issue was resolved and given a number to call. The service rep who answered told me she couldn't help, and suggested I call Member Services, which is of course who I had called each of the previous times! Unimaginably bad customer service. BCU is not professional in communication and its record keeping with my auto loan payments . i called them to notify for the change of bank account regarding payment deduction unfortunately it was not noted in their loan payment system also when i applied for loan over the phone they quoted high rate but when i visited the BCU branch its was couple of points lower so be careful when applying via phone. . read more

Customer since 2014, called the 800 number to be shuffled five times during card member issue, poor quality 800 number. In person experience made me think it is time to find a new credit union. Left me feeling unsure about BCU. Info told on phone conflicted info in person. I hope BCU gets bought out by a bank or credit union with better standards and practices. Disappointed. read more

We had a horrible experience getting our car loan here. We were promised a 1-2 day max turnaround for the paperwork after having no issues getting approved and also signing up for a second account (which they required to start the process, so we were sort of stuck with them). it took longer than a week and the banker we worked with would not update us unless we reached out multiple times, he was rude, completely not empathetic to our situation, and would not let us get a word in on the phone and promptly hang up. They submitted paper work wrong multiple times causing more delays and were very unapologetic about it. Thankfully the car dealership was so nice and held the car for us since we gave a large cash deposit, but i can't imagine many people are able to secure a car in this market with this slow of a turn around in service. read more

I have been a member of Baxter Credit Union for several years now. Today, I went through the drive-thru to deposit cash and two checks. I wasn't greeted at all by the girl who was the teller. She gave me my receipt back, and had failed to post one of my checks. Had I not been dilligent in looking it over, I would have missed that she had not recorded it. She did apologize, but I find this kind of "service" inexcusable. Be very wary when making a deposit; and make sure that it's all recorded. Otherwise, it's a nice tip for the teller. I think it's time for me to find a new financial institution to keep my money. read more

Aside from my checking accounts, several saving accounts, debit card and charge cards, BCU has been the source of a couple of car loans, a mortgage loan, and a few personal loans over the years. In all instances, the process has been swift, efficient, thorough, professional and above all kind. Their "small town vibe" is true and personal owing to their friendly and helpful staff often going beyond expectations. Best credit union ever! Adam has helped us with 2 auto loans. I wish I would have went with their warranty program with my car! My husband went with theirs on his truck, amazing! Can't say enough about them, and I heard about them from a friend. Then j recommend my neighbors to them! One went with an auto loan (pre approved) before looking and took the warranty thru BUC. I like this bank because they always put out a "toys for tots" collection box every year. Nice. Also they have a machine in the lobby that you can use to count your change. Oh, and a play area for very small kids that you can leave them in while you stand in line and do your banking. Actually I've never seen a line here longer than one or two people. Don't forget your ID. They go way overboard with it. You can't even make a deposit without identification/permission. read more

I have been banking with BCU for almost 5 years now. The employees have always been incredibly helpful. Adam helped me refinance my car, with an interest rate that was less that half of what I was paying originally! Being younger with no co-signer & less than desirable credit, BCU took a gamble with me & helped me every step of the way, bringing my credit up to a great number! I love that I can use ANY ATM & they refund fees from outside ATM's up to $10 a month. They have helped me by reversing overdraft fees when money was tight, talked me through finances & taught me a lot of things that my parents never could! I have recommended all of my friends there, nothing but great feedback. Just yesterday I brought my fiancée in & we refinanced his car as well, they also gave him some amazing deals. The staff is helpful, knowledgable, and responsive. We are moving from a bank who's customer service is based in India. When I began banking with BCU, the teller gave me her personal line so that I can always call her when there is a question. Their Rainy Day fund pays 1.25% for the first 12 months and 2.5% thereafter! We are moving all of our accounts to BCU after the service we have received! Great job and highly recommend. read more

This bank does not know what customer service is, I was out of town and tried to call in a coin order yea right...... You can not call the branch direct you have to spend a long time with there toll free number and they will call if someone can take your call so after a few tries I get someone that told me of we are not going to order money this week. read more

I bank here and I always leave happy when taking care of money matters. Making a deposit? I go in, give the teller my card and money/check, and receive a receipt, and it's easy as that. Love my Credit Union! I called to get a car loan and in less than 5 minutes I was approved with a great rate! The CU sent me a preapproval letter through email so I can shop for the car. They overnight the check to the dealer; the process was so easy. I've been a member for over 15 years and have always had a great experience - I will NEVER use a bank ever again. read more

I am sorry. However it was the worst service I have ever had in a banking faclity. I walked in on a Saturday approx 1130am to open a new account. There was a women at the front desk asked for me to take a seat would be about a 5 minute wait. 30 minutes later still waiting.(never asked my name for a waiting list either). Another customer came in went to the teller line(no one at the front desk) Was given paper work to fill out for new account. While I still had not even been asked if needed anything or advised of longer wait. I went to counter myself to get paper work...I never filled out.. Left. I sat there over 45 minutes by this time. I understand Saturday is busy. but should banks should know that many customer only have weekends free and should be staffed to accomidate... I have since gone to a better Credit Union .. Valley Bell in Elgin. .... Would not recommend this placed to anyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!! read more

bcu is after your additional fees. that's it. if they don't charge a fee for it, you can't do it, like deposit at any other atm besides theirs. they have true bankers hours and close most branches between 4.30 and some 6.00. so if you do have to make a deposit, most working people can't do it. to top it off, they erroneously closed my account and couldn't account for 15 days of a $1400 deposit, only to suddenly find it when i called in. terrible!!!! take note!!! read more

Be aware of fee's charged at this location. If you belong to another credit union and use this one as a branch location they may still charge you a fee for certain transactions. And the teller I had to deal with was not nice. My recommendation is to bank somewhere else. read more
