Well I tried another place today and I am sorry I did. The crawfish were old smelly and A LOT of dead one. We ended up scheduling a time and then decided to order a few extra items because we had decided to invite family to join us. Not only do my husband and I love the food, but my entire family remarked about how tender the beef was - and they are all hard to impress when it comes to brisket! The brisket was juicy and it was smoked and seasoned perfectly. The turkey was equally as delicious and I, who doesn't even eat burnt ends, decided to taste Rump's pork belly burnt ends and it was instant love! The apps and and sides were also scrumptious! We tried the potato salad, the mac n' cheese, and the savory smoked pinto beans. Perfection! HOWEVER... I need to send a special shout out for the bacon dilly bites. I like fried pickles well enough, and prefer the larger pickles over pickle chips, but I do not order them often. These were chunks of pickles somewhere between whole and pickle chips. Then...they were wrapped in bacon and fried. Most times I don't eat bacon but wanted to taste those darn pickles so I tried one. Wonderful! Two thumbs up! The man behind the smoker, Eric, is so friendly and happy to talk not only about his secrets and methods he uses, but other topics as well - ask him about his love of metal music! You should 100% try his many creations. I haven't experienced a catering myself but have no doubt he would be an amazing vendor! Quick note...there is a (closed) restaurant named 'Rump's BBQ' in Palestine. That is NOT the same business so make sure you are looking at 'Rump's Barbecue and Catering' when planning your next event!

We ordered the two-meat plate and chose brisket/ pork combination plate (about $14). That comes with two sides which we chose as green chile macaroni, and corn. We also ordered the brisket and pork tacos ($4) each. There were about three orders ahead of us but I think it only took about 10 mins or less to get our food. So service time pretty good in my opinion. As far as the tacos go, they are served with one tortilla and it's fairly decent size and for sure stuffed with both flavor, some toppings and well seasoned. Also a flavorful sauce on both. The brisket taco was out of this world, but for me that's also because it had a nice brisket fat content to it which I personally feel is where all the flavor is hidden. The pulled pork taco, however, was great on a taste level but just a tad bit dry. As for the combo plate the meats pretty much played out the same way as you can imagine. Can't say enough about the brisket and the bark and the flavor and so on and so on. To reiterate the pork was just a tad bit dry but very tasty to eat, but again I've already taken that into account for the score. As for the green chile macaroni, I have to rate it as pretty darn good. The reason? My wife and I were splitting the plate, but somehow the green chile macaroni never made it to me because she wolfed it down. So by that rationale it must be good if she didn't even want to share! The corn also a very great mix of flavors, the style perhaps akin to helotes with the mayonnaise and butter highly seasoned. Highly in this case meaning very flavorful with a pretty decent kick to it. Too much kick for my 10 year old but I couldn't put it down. So over all about $22 normal cost, but I think with the event discount it was like $13 and $15 with tip at the credit card machine. I believe these folks are connected to seven loaves bread and if that's the case then disclosure they have done a lot of catering for my church, so they are good people. But I still couldn't pull the five star out because of the slightly dry pork. But you know that happens from time to time for barbecue so I'd definitely recommend this place even at full price. It's a little more sophisticated than your normal barbecue and sides and I really appreciate how well it works.

My friend tried one of the fresh food meal delivery services that are also becoming popular, so we could compare notes and see which one worked better for our families. I'm a nurse, so when I'm working I'm gone for all three meals that day. The night before one of my shifts I decided to give them a try so my poor husband didn't have to come up with something to feed our kids. You need to place your order before 9pm if you want to be able to get a meal for the next day. Which seems pretty reasonable to me. Here's the BEST part. As long as you live in their delivery area, your food arrives at your house fully cooked and ready to be served. And we're not talking greasy takeout. We're talking fresh, healthy, home cooked meals that are delicious. My 5 year old asked for THIRDS of their chicken. And she doesn't eat chicken. That's how good it was. The portions are huge. Our first meal came with chicken kabobs, rice and steamed veggies. So, so, so good. As I'm comparing notes with my friend, her meals are delicious as well. With a few big differences....my meals were already cooked, they were delivered to my home, I didn't have to do anything other than put it on plates, and this isn't a subscription that you're committed to. We've ordered three weeks in a row and I can't imagine ever stopping. Ever.
